Cadillac Escalade power wheels I had one of these things when I was little, except it was a Jeep Wrangler. I didn't know these things were RWD...the kid has some trouble navigating the grass. I'm going to Italy next semester from January through April for our 4th year architecture study abroad trip. I'm getting excited about it, but I still have a lot of preparing to do before I leave. I have the passport all taken care of, and our class is getting Visas in mid-October. We'll be primarily in Rome, but we'll also take trips around Italy and we get some free time off to travel to other countries if we choose. Anyway, I'm just wondering in general from people who have been to Italy or Europe what it's like? Any tips or things I should know/avoid? I've heard you have to buy a power adapter since their outlets run on a 220V wattage. Also, do ATM cards here in the US work over at ATM machines there, or is there some other good way to get money? I guess I'll just make a list of some questions I have and see if anyone has the answers: What's the food like? Can you eat cheap? I hear the wine is cheap and good. Is it difficult to travel between countries? I've heard you can fly or take the train, but is it costly? I know they drive on the left...do people walk on the left side of the sidewalk too? Is there lots of anti-American sentiment? I'll probably blend in well though since I have Italian ancestry. Are there peddlers/people who try to take advantage of you? Pick pocketing? Are the people friendly in general? Is the beef ok to eat with the whole Mad Cow scare? What are some of the customs / cultural traits of people over there? I've heard people stand a lot closer to one another. Anything else you want to add, feel free. That's all I can think of for now!

I'm going there in a couple weeks for an architecture trip. We visit the site for our next studio project and then the rest is free time to do whatever. It should be fun...I haven't been to Canada in a few years.

Oh, I'm almost positive this thing is going to have some type of issue down the road. The laborers building this thing have been in the news for the poor working conditions at the site, and honestly, I doubt this building will be a quality finished product. The world has never seen a skyscraper this high before, and it's being built in a country which has begun developing only over the last decade or so. Time will tell, but I don't think time will be on Burj Dubai's side.

They're building one in Dubai right now that I think is supposed to be over 2,600 feet tall. Burj Dubai or something like that. EDIT: Here it is...Burj Dubai, 2,650 feet tall

Freedom Tower is taller than the old WTC by slightly over 400 feet. As for the design, I like the fact that they're tall and slender with a lot of glass, but I agree with Bob...the whole thing isn't very cohesive. I know Childs did Freedom Tower, but it looks like different architects did the others. They should have based the design of the other three off Freedom Tower instead of giving one diamond roofs and another John Hancock-style cross-bracing. The short guy is the only one that fits in with Freedom Tower. I also don't get why they are running Fulton and Greenwich Streets back through again. The old WTC was nice that you could walk about without running into traffic and intersections. It seems like it would be more serene for the people in the memorial park to not have streets surrounding them on all four sides.

Damn straight. Things are moving progressing at the site. Here are the images released a few days ago of the final design for the new WTC, to be completed by 2012. Three of the towers are over 1,000 feet tall.

It depends, flying can be cool, but driving allows you to see everything from a completely different perspective. I've done both a lot for vacations, but I'd say I probably prefer driving over flying for long trips or where you want to see the scenery. But I love flying too...especially in smaller planes like Cessnas.

Reminds me of this chick that was in my US History class freshmen year in high school. She was your stereotypical ditzy blonde. Anyway, we were talking about the Revolutionary War and my instructor asked her some question, I can't remember what...but she said "Wasn't that the war between the Canadians and the Indians?" There was a loud sigh that echoed throughout the classroom. My teacher stared at her. Someone leaned over at said "Americans and the British" and she replied, "Oh yeah....who won again?" :rotflmao: She was dead serious too. I don't know how people like that function in society.

I just got back into the workout routine this semester, lifting weights and doing a couple laps around the track every other day. A buddy and I both keep a sheet where we record how many reps and the amount of weight each time, and it really shows you how much progress you've made. I used to go sometimes last year, but we didn't keep a record and after a while only started going once every week and just kinda fell out of it as things got busier. But seeing the improvements written down each week really gets you motivated to go each time and keeping lifting a little more. I've also noticed I feel a whole lot better physically when I'm in a regular routine.
