  1. Is this the ARE you're taking? I've heard it's a bitch...
  2. So, today I'm walking out of Wal-Mart, and one of the old lady greeters (excuse me, "associates") was standing over by the door when she whipped out her walkie-talkie. Then I heard her crow "Bill, have you taken your luxury yet?" Bill replied "Nah, not yet...probably in 'bout 'nother half hour." Putting two and two together, I'm assuming Bill's "luxury" was his coffee break. Who the hell calls coffee break "luxury"? My Theory: Probably because it's a luxury to get away from the whining customers that park their carts at an angle in the middle of the main aisle and complain when the price that rings up on their packet of Wrigley's is $.05 higher than the advertised price. Anyone else know of some Wal-Mart "lingo"?
  3. Engineering-wise, it looks high quality and pieced together well. Styling wise...kinda boring. It has nothing on BMW and Mercedes. The Germans are leaner and more athletic; both of these look like Toyota's typical blob styling on steroids. I don't get why every Toyota/Lexus has to have huge beltlines and chunky, big rears. Sleek S-Class (Scarlett Johannsen on wheels): I guess if big butts are your thing:
  4. Quoted from another post: Pretty much sums up this styling wonder.
  5. I saw this in a BMW magazine ad the other day and I think it applies to GM as well:
  6. Hmm...me thinks cracks are appearing in the Toyota armor. Another cost-cutting move by Toyota, even though they could probably buy out GM and Ford together. This reminds me of Honda's refusal to install a cheap plastic divider to catch spraying oil that would help prevent fires in the vehicles of its CR-V and Element owners. The two companies that are doing among the best in the US automotive market (and making big $$) are taking the cheap route out when it comes to owner safety. How's Toyota going to sidestep the press on this one? Give it some happy name like their "service campaigns"?
  7. Wow, American car heaven right there. I love that red Malibu coupe that's in a couple of the pictures.
  8. There's some cheese factor in the video, but this is a great Journey song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwGdXZ6o2xs
  9. I've never seen Journey perform, but I think they played here in Iowa not too long ago. I know REO Speedwagon played over at the Crawford County Fair one summer...probably kinda weird going from arenas to county fairs, but there's still an audience. The only Journey CD I have is "Frontiers," but I downloaded a bunch of songs off the greatest hits so I have the bases covered pretty well. Frontiers is a very polished album...very futuristic sounding too (a little synth-heavy, but I like it). My favorite song off there is "Edge of the Blade," but there's not a bad song on that disc. I've really gotten into the Journey-REO-Styx sound lately. I just bought REO's Greatest Hits yesterday and am loving it. There's something about that big arena rock sound that makes great tunes for driving and road trips.

  11. I seem to have good luck with McDonald's because they have never screwed up my order yet. Burger King, OTOH, messes it up on every other visit...
  12. I use them sometimes if there isn't a line...if there are more than 3 cars in line, I'll just go inside. My dad hates drive-thrus, but not for environmental reasons or anything...he just likes to go inside and order so he has more time to decide. They do come in really handy for winter though...especially on frigid days when the snow is really coming down. There are cases when the drive-thru is quicker. At Culver's, they seem to get the order ready much faster for drive-thru rather than going inside. The downside is that Culver's isn't exactly quick like McDonald's or BK (about 3-5 minutes to prepare your order), so you waste more gas.

We have lots of problems with file sizes being way too big. Some of our finished files (done in the worst program ever called Corel...how I wish we had Photoshop or Illustrator) can come out being 400 MB in size. The printer gets mad and will just sit there because it doesn't want to deal with that size of a file, so then you cancel it...but it doesn't want to cancel. I've actually found out techniques to get around some of the hurdles, like saving the file as a TIF and then importing it into Autocad and printing, but it's still a pain in the butt and takes 3X as long as it should. The worst is when the boss asks you to print off one of these 400 MB files on 44"x34" paper for a meeting that's coming up in 20 minutes (like what happened this morning)...that's notgonnahappen.com.

Well, it's 10:07 PM Central time here and I'm still at work because the damn plotter has been finicky (sp?) all night. I mean, I'm being paid to be here...but I don't want to be here. Argh...is it just me, or does technology sometimes seem like a step backward? I don't know how many hours of my life I have wasted waiting/trying to get things to print here and at college. I wonder what the average number of hours (or years) a person spends waiting on printers to print? Anyone else have problems with things not working properly at their workplace?
  15. On the part where it says "Keenan lifted the phone from the hook," change phone to "receiver." That'll help eliminate one of them. Good story though...very descriptive and it was actually pulling me in. A lot of times when people try to write a story they tend to "word it up" because they think it'll make it sound better, but it actually makes it worse. You've gotten it down about right. Keep going and post further developments!
  16. My 1990 Lumina Euro was a stripper model...no power windows or locks, AC Delco AM/FM radio only (no cassette), and no ABS. I can remember times where I'd start driving and want my passenger window down, so I'd lean over the bench seat and had long enough arms to actually crank it down...while driving. I never did it on busy/high speed streets...just usually on my residential street shortly after I'd pulled out of the driveway. Strange to think that my kids someday probably won't know how to operate a crank window, either.

  18. I'm not really into hip hop, although I can appreciate some Run DMC and NWA's "Straight Outta Compton." The rest...ehh...
  19. Oh man, I know what you mean. At my old job, we had an air compressor room up above the main plant and right below the roof. We also stored a lot of files and supplies up there.Well, one scorching August day, my boss had me go up there and clean up the place and also look for some files for him in the process. I bet it was 120 degrees up in that room and when I came down after about 3 hours I was literally dripping with sweat.
  20. @ FlyBrian But I agree...I'm tired of the kids that think their puny little firework show a block down the street is anything compared to the real fireworks that go on at the fairgrounds. And fireworks aren't even legal in this state.
  21. Well, they beat Mitsubishi.
  22. I never see new Mitsubishis on the road anymore. Every once in a while I'll chance upon a Galant or an Endeavor, but in the end trying to spot a new Mitsubishi on the road is like trying to find Bigfoot or a UFO.
  23. I've been watching Acura sales for months now, and every month nearly every car in the lineup is down. The Civic and Fit were the only two really holding Honda up for the month.
  24. Happy birthday to all!
