I own one right now. Regarding hyperv6's comment about the Monte SS having a 350TPI vs. the carbureted 305 H.O., people make these swaps all the time. However, the 305 H.O. can be decent itself with a little extra tuning.

I'm taking the Fram back I was going to use on the Monte's upcoming oil change. I knew Fram filters were crap, but cardboard? Jesus, that's cheap. Since I can't find the AC Delco filter at parts stores around here, I'm going with a Bosch if they have one that will fit.
