EPA issues fuel economy ratings

does any1 else think that while these cars are certainly cool.... they arent exactly inspired designs in any way? im talking about 60s and early 70s

why? because they actually produce power in the low end. thats why an RSX can be powerful AND get good mileage cause its a very small engine and doesnt use much gas at slower engine speeds, but if you want power its still there in the higher end. whereas GM gives power all across the board and hence worse gas mileage.

Yes, but the I4 would have to be different than GMs run of the mill ECOTEC... it would need a higher redline for if you want power, but generally speaking it gets good gas mileage if you dont actually use it for the added power. But i think the money would be better spent on improving the HV line of engines, the HV is essentially GMs version of SOHC engines while the HF are the DOHC line (duh). Honda has shown that single cam engines are capable of decent power, so why cant GMs pushrods do the same all while getting good gas mileage.

If a brand cant make it it should die, thats how every other company worked. BUT that is cool seeing that pic of that AMC dealership, might be fun to buy one just to have.

Its everyones fault here, its managements fault for building poor cars, its the union leaders fault for making some bad economic decisions. and the fact is, if GM goes under it would cause some serious reprecussions in the marketplace, not to mention GM has contracts with the government for defense, and the government will not allow its home defense maker to go under (at least not that particular division) that being said i doubt GM will go under, if they readjust to 15-20% marketshare they will have less overall cost and more $$ to throw at designing, and in time they can rebuild their marketshare and keep the company lean (as in no underused plants).

of course they arent, i doubt there is one single "honest" large corporation on the face of this earth

wow do you really think that doing 0-60 under 9 seconds matters to 98% of americans? hell 9 second car is plenty fast, mine is 9.4 and i have no quarrels with its power. my truck is like 13 second and I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. people dont care if their car can do 0-60 in 6.8 seconds cause they NEVER WILL. most FAMILY SEDANS are faster than muscle cars these days, and yet people still dont care! i think a lot of them would rather have less power and better fuel economy (since they measure power as they feel it not as a number).

Uh i dont think the G6 needs any more weight on it... just slap a 5.3L in it... its all good... same gas mileage too... :rolleyes:

a huge massive depression.... that would be a most excellent thing! depressions create deflation... times where the dollar becomes worth MORE :) ... so well go into WW3 10 years after the depression starts and well come out as a superpower again :P but ueah i have that problem a lot, i usually just end up smiling sheeply at them and saying "whatever".

perhaps you have not had an economic class? its not that i agree with people buying toyotas but your argument is a bit flawed. If the US automakers were to fall then the economy would of course balance itself out, in the short run things would be grim... but then again thats how capitalism and free-trade works. But.... like i said i support GM
