GM needs to fix Kappas NOW!
This is just like testing a base $49K Corvette against cars like the Gallardo, Ford GT(40), BMW Z8, Viper & Aston Martin DB.

Thanks Balthazar! As always with '50s & '60s cars you have a wealth of information on the topic. I hope to visit you soon so you can take my B-59 for a spin and troubleshoot some of the semi-serious sounds coming from the suspension. Yes, BTW I whole-heartedly agree, there can NOT be such a thing as a type of suspension that does better with imprecise & sloppy old Bias-Ply tires than a modern, tight set of radials. Tire technology IS one aspect that has improved quite a bit in the past few decades.

I love the REAL vintage look of the bias-plys... the Super-88s were pretty solid feeling. I did a few high-speed runs on the highway with it and the car felt OK, the B-59's bias-plys are weird, sometimes, 80mph is smooth like glass and other times (on different road surfaces) the bias plys feel like they are going to shake the car appart at 65mph.

Running again
'66 International... how come I've never heard of this before? A car that gorgeous is meant to be SEEN not heard.

I read this story before... I think it's been about a year but I have read it before. Good stuff.

That 49 year old rusty slab of metal... yeah, that was THE plate that I started the thread about like two years ago when I was looking for a '59 Buick in NJ/NY/NH/OH/ME/VT. I gt the car registered on Year of Manufacture plates... I carry the reg. sticker in my registration sleeve, I do not even need to stick the decal on the plate itself. It makes the B-59 look exactly as if it was in 1959. The plate is burgundy and stamped just like the one on the postcard, except in MUCH better shape.

I did it, I shaved off all my facial hair, beard, moustache, all gone
Poncho-Custom-S: Thanks Bro, I was not holding my breath for the photo... Somehow I KNEW that O.B. would be dragged into this.

I'm doing the exact opposite. Have not saved my mustache & beard since the day I got my B-59 home. Trying something new.

So I got to ride in a Civic yesterday
I still prefer the Cobalt SS/SC to any Honda Civic. The Cobalt is a better value, better styling inside & out and to top it all off it's cams are not driven by an oversized rubber band. I hate Honda. The more I look at them, the more I see them in junkyards with their cheap crappy motors & flimsy chassis and the more I see them post accident looking like a squished grape I vow never to buy one. Dodgefan: So was the 80 mile round trip to Balicky's Junkyard in my B-59 better or worse than your experience in the Civic?

LIke the Empire State... reaching for the sky. That IS America. Dare to dream. As of last night I've driven 1400 miles w/out one real "problem". The tires (bias-ply) need to be balanced and I lost the RF hubcap a few times but I bent the teeth out with a pair of vicegrips and it has not happened in the last 1000 miles. It gets about 10.8 mpg, with me driving mostly back roads, occassional 60-80mph highway runs and a lot of idleing as I take a million photos of the car in weird places. As with that night in Boston with the photos in the other thread. http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...16570&st=20 Went to my first car show with the B-59 this past Sat. 99% of the people asked me if it was a 1960. I'm not a fan of '60 Buicks but I was not insulted, the B-59 was very clean, crisp & futuristic. More photos coming soon.

Section 4, page 3 of the 1985 Pontiac
That was a bit raw, but here's to honesty.

Removal of Specific Stains Non-Greasy Stains - Includes catsup, coffee (black), egg, fruit, fruit juice, milk, soft drinks, wine, vomit & blood. ---- Sounds like that would have come in handy for the wiseguys in "Goodfellas".

Camaro mule pic?!
Of course it's the Camaro test mule. What part of TEST MULE do people on that forum not understand. The test mule for the late '90s BMW X5 looked exactly like an early '90s BMW 528 wagon jacked up on a C/K frame.

~ ~ ~ Smell ~ ~ ~
Yes, that's true. Hot iron & vynil seats baking in the sun on a summer's day is a smell that conjures up images of a rusted 1963 Lincoln Continental that's sitting in a New England junk yard, it's black paint all crackled and it's lower half reduced to a rusty orange dust. Sitting in a 1968 Firebird Ragtop once back in 2001 was a great experience & I fondly remember the smell of the white vynil interior and original olive-green paint.

Still... I would NEVER turn down a fair deal on a '59 Caddy. It's an icon greater than Elvis or M.M. Stamps in thirld world countries still feature '59 Cadillacs to this day. And so what if the whole car is a big pedestal for a pair of tailfins? It's still a million times cooler than 99.5% of cars built after JFK's lifetime. What are most modern cars but pedestals for rims shaped like big bars of soap? That's cool right there... I don't care who you are. ------------ P.S. Fly: So you ARE alive. Get my PM?

Bought a 77 Cutlass Supreme on Ebay
I'm surprised XP has not thrown up a photo of the white/blue 1977 Cutty that he's thinking about buying. He can;t STFU about that car, weirdo.

I've met O.B. before and all I'm going to say is that despite what you read about him he is NOT in all actuallity Madeline Albright.

~ ~ ~ Smell ~ ~ ~
I've had this idea for a while, a thread about the different smells of classic cars. Every one of my "classic" cars has had a different smell. The 68 Camaro, 64 Olds, 59 Buick, even the 70s junk I've had... they all have a very distinct smell to them, I'd say my favorite is the Super 88's interior. It's devine. The seats & rugs all smell like a million dollars. It still smells NEW, if 2007 new cars smelled this good they'd suck a lot less. Any cars you've owned that smelled good? Can you tell the differance between a 1930/1940/1950/1960/1970 car? How about GM versus Mopar versus FoMoCo? One of the most depressing things about a fully restored car is much of that smell is gone forever. Sitting in the 1964 Buick Wildcat 4dr hardtop the other day when I went to the Junkyard (XP & Dodgefan were along) was so satisfying. It's such a intoxicating aroma.

The Sound of Cars
Yes, very true about start-up noise for the stuff mentioned. Back in the day I owned a couple of GM cars with the 12 valve 3.1 V6s, those have a distinct sound too... but who cares? New stuff is all generic, there's not much sound in today's cars anyway. The real story is all the old school stuff. Ever heard a GTO's Tri-Power 389 going down a dragstrip? Or how about a true DZ302 powered, cross ram 1969 Camaro Z/28 at high RPMs? It's a sound one can never forget. A Cadillac 472 or 500 also makes a very special sound when echoing inside the fenders of a early 1970s car? With some cars it's the LACK of sound that makes 'em so special. Ever heard a super-quiet 1940s car with a 7.0:1 compression motor? Course you haven't, that's the point!

Vacation Pics of Egypt
Gorgeous. Thanks for sharing. The entire existance of the U.S. of A. is just a blink of an eye compared to the history contained within those walls. It must be amazing to see it all in person, I can only imagine.
