  1. Okay, since I'm always digging up these weird links & bizzare photos I figured I should have a thread dedicated to my random Google finds Etc. So here goes... some strange stuff for your viewing pleasure. http://yun.complife.ru/pic/auto2.htm -------- http://www.plums.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/gall...s/indexA_M.html -------- Can someone expain to me WTF is going on here? Does the Dali Lama drive a DTS now? http://mitglied.lycos.de/bestattungswagen/...otogalery0.html -------- This is off that same Russian site with the boat. XP will love the red car in the background. http://yun.complife.ru/pic/ae050025.jpg
  2. ... is bad, Mmmmkay?
  3. He was just a Rent-A-Cop Security Guard for the Mall. He was very firm about no video-recording on Mall Property but was a good sport about the donuts. Actually he said something to the extent of "it's my job to have you guys not do this here but you probably will not run into any problems at Target & Home Depot.... have fun"
  4. Are you kidding? No like, seriously did you forget the smiley or something? GTO no iconic? Ummmm it's recognized by about 65% of the car enthusiast crowd as the FIRST true Muscle car in terms of a basic sleeper with a big motor in the modern sense, it's been burned into the psyche of the red blooded American male as the most bad ass Pontiac and in some cases car ever made and it has overshadowed the original car it was named after (you know Ferrari) in the collector car market. If GTO is not iconic than what do you call other names like Mustang or Cuda?
  5. Large or small I like them natrual. Pam Anderson is just too much. Too much plastic, too much cosmetic work, those lips looks like they're silicone too. But hey, BBL: that cartoon is awsome! :rotflmao:
  6. I was just telling Ross yesterday of a '77-79 Cadillac CDV like his that was at a local cheesy used car corral wiht the horns bolted to the header panel. It was painted Barbie-pink with the Dealership name/logo across the side. But still what's more shocking is that it got destroyed in a demolition derby by some guy who got it for free because he was at the right place at the right time. I gues the owner of the lot got "sick of looking at it" and just gave it away to be destroyed. The car was in fantastic condition, absolutely worth saving and this a$$hole has to give it away to be smashed up! WTF? He said hos it needed a few things and he didn;t feel like fixing them... like a f**king windshield wiper motor or something equaly trivial & easy to fix.
  7. _____ parking lot
  8. You got me there... good job for destroying that Honda.
  9. Wow super cool thread. These were all great men. Henry Leland was such a pioneer he did a tremandous amount for the automotive field, much more than the typical American realizes. I know his direct involvement was short lived but I'd like to think he's smiling down from heaven on the CTS-V and XLR. However... he might be pisssed the DTS is still FWD. One of my favorite stories is how W. O. Bentley was at awe when he first witnissed a V16 Cadillac. He said the mere word Automobile was insufficient to describe such a glorious machine.
  10. Yes you did, I hope you're not too pissed at me for seling out... Hey, wait a minute you have a Jaguar. The British Killed our men in the American Revolution and you also own a Maseratti. Rememebr that I-talian guy by the name of Musolini? [/clutching_at_straws]
  11. Who in their right mind would drive a 1968 Camaro around with the front bumper off Trans Am style & all the windows rolled down like they're trying to show off the fact that it's a hardtop? Not me anyway! But seriously dude I love the '68, it makes me want to keep my Camaro... but in reality I can't afford the restoration the car needs it & it's selfish for me to keep it outside under a tarp another winter. Bad anough all the previous years it sat outside. Love the Cragars on the '73 & the Camry pics are still funny as hell. You're a class act bro! Id' love to see photos of that 1982 Starlet... not that a American Car fanatic like myself would ever buy a compact, RWD Japanese car from the early 80s and try to justify it as a beater.
  12. Dude, don't apologize, I'm just yakkin out loud too. The irony is I have more of a fear of the Datsun being totalled since it even more rare and is SUCH a weird car. You'd never know it by the way I treat it sometimes. I think I subconsciously want to punish it for being Japanese. Datsun Abuse You're right, the force of impact would be transfered through the brace and into the suspension etc. but in any case modern cars are F*** when they're hit hard. A tap of the fender is $3000, once the chassis & suspension mount points are effected on these high end luxury cars you're talking about lazer-guided frame pulling machines & special ordered parts from overseas. I'd hate to be the poor schmuck to have to fix a stuffed Audi A8 or Acura NSX. Of course the fantastic pay probably eases the frustration.

  14. Cool, we've got some great entries here... can't wait for GT1750s'.
  15. Very cool! Congrats. Great choice I know one member on here will approve! It seems like everyones buying cars left and right. Our frined Jenny bought a Rio today and of course we should be pickign up our Q45 on Monday.
  16. Variance: Don't apologize, I know what you meant. Once again I'll take this opportunity to thank you for the suggestion of the Q45. Chances are slim I would have prusued it without your suggestion. This is a perfect case of how cool our C&G family is. I have to admit I was very narrow minded in my search at first. Japanese cars were out. Not even being considered. I told myself when I bought the Datsun last year that if I ever bought another Import it would be something German. Either a BMW, Mercedes or Porsche. But the reality of the stuation is that for the same amount of money as this Q most of the BMWs and MBs were nowhere near as good values. Marcia is spoiled. The STS has awsome ergonomics. The heated seats, dual zone climate control, BOSE sound system & luxury-meets-sporty feel of the car were something she kept asking for. I trully beleive that the Q embodies these elements better than any of the dozens of vehicles I looked into for her. Hypotheticals aside the reality is that this car represente the best value. I posted this thread, got great advice & now as a result I don't have to bitch about the Deville's FWD & Marcia doesn't have to complain about having to drive a car with the "Grandma" image. As soon as I saw that photo of the 1999 Q45 you posted something inside me clicked... if it was not for Marcia's love for Cadillacs I would not have even looked into the Deville at all. So hat's off to you buddy! Nick: This car is not a classic 1959 Buick or 1961 Caddy. If it's totaled in a bad wreck so be it. My family is not able to be replaced by a check from Commerce Insurance. A big factor in choosing a vehicle for Marcia was makign sure that little 32 lbs. of Precious cargo in the back seat is safe. Fly: Thanks for the link. It seems that a lot of cars form the 1990s get a marginal or poor rating. According to these results death is innevidable in my Datsun in any accident involving speeds of more than 15mph. Even if the other vehicle is a shopping cart. If you shut the rear door on the Infiniti you'd know what I meant.... not in an offset frontal crash into a barrier but in a T-bone situation the cars's doors & B-pillar seem stronger than anything short of a MB S500. BV: Those Avalon-ish headlights will be replaced by the newer 1999-2001 style lamps as soon as I have some expendabl;e income on ebay.
  17. Two weeks ago just after I installed the Volvo radiator in my Datsun but before I had a chance to install a cooling fan we had a Blizzard over the weekend. So natrually, clutch fan or not I decided to have some RWD fun in the Datsun. I suck and by no means is this a representation of my drifting ability. We just kept driving from one parking lot to the next and had some jouvenile fun. Try doing this in a Scion, Integra or Civic. ------ First we went to the Pheasnat Lane Mall, a Security Guard asks us to move the fun somewhere else but is super nice about it. He made it sound like the video recording on Mall property was a bigger deal than the donuts in the snow. Most of the commentary you hear is from XP but our friend Chris is the one taping. Before he arrived I got in a few seconds of wheel spin. http://media.putfile.com/Snow-00134 ------ Next is the Target parking lot... after like a minute the batteries die in Chris' camcorder. http://media.putfile.com/Snow-00247 ------ Now it's off to an empty parking lot by Costco. Notice the paper Wendy's Cup I toss at XP as he's raggin on my little Datsun. Don't hate, appreciate! Plus I almost fall on my ass when I slip on the ice getting out of the car at the end. http://media.putfile.com/Snow-005 ------ If you're (by some miracle) not bored of this crap yet here's the after party commentary as the poor little car overheats slightly. I apologize in advance for the retarded dialogue between me and XP. http://media.putfile.com/Snow-00684 ------ For the record a few days later I got a clutch fan off of a 1984 Datsun 300ZX at Lowell Used Auto Parts (junkyard) for a whopping $15 (since I unbolted it myself) & once that went on my little inline-six's water-pump pulley the car's been running cool-as-a-cucumber even in heavy traffic. Just another reason why my little Datsun kicks a$$. Plus the GM power steerig pump the factorty used makes it like 0.7 % General Motors even in when it was brand new. Now it has a radiator off a Volvo 240 and a Clutch fan off of the V6 from a 300ZX. Next is a Turbo off of a diesel Mercedes I'm going to mount in the rear, a blow off valve off of a SAAB, oil lines for the turbo & rear shocks from AutoZone.

  19. Love them. I think they should be on most cars. I dont mind the larger MB star on the grille either though. I do mind the retardedly ugly Toyota emglem that always seems placed in a very dumb spot/height on the car. Like the current & new Camrys, the placement of the Toyota emblems are horrible.
  20. Wow... missed the voting, very nice. Love the sketch GMan. Looks like a hardtop too.
  21. Yes you were. It's a great way to put it, Japanese Buick. Several times in my search for a nice Q45 I was told by salesman that they could get me into a nice Lexus or Acura & I always cut them off and told them that it was not even a remote possibility. I'm not selling out to the two brands that I consider the evil empire. Although we're almost certainly just tying up loose ends on MOnday and taking this Q the Infiniti dealer less than 7 miles away traded a 1997 Q45 Friday btu the car will not be on the lot until Mon. because of the Blizzard. I'm wondering weather I should go at least take a look at it. It's got 9,000 more miles though. BV: who would have though it is right. But hey, my future 1959 Buick will be cool enough for all three cars. It wil balance out the fung-schway in my driveway. (sp?) The wheels are staying put. I like them. Those rims belong on that car... and I'm too cheap to buy the ones I'd want to if I was going to go with aftermarket. Either way nothing bigger than 17s or possibly 18s. The one thing you read my mind about is the headlights. One of them had a tiny bit of moisture so it's a great excuse to get the later HIDs off of a 2000/2001.
  22. Yeah the polished aluminum strut tower brace i sa nice touch. The quality & craftsmanship is pretty much on par with the STS, some things are nicer others are not... but the RWD layout is worth a $1500 hit on my vandalized trade. I have nothing bad to say abtou the STS or Cadillac in general. If we could have afforded a 2004 STS or CTS-V then we'd be driving that but that was not meant to be when we need a car payment of less than $250 right now. Buying a house is more important than having an almost brand new car. ONe thing I'll say is that the No* has more balls in the low range but at like 5000rpm that little 4.1 starts really cooking. It's probably good for 155mph. The Infiniti is not as quick and there is some throttle delay but overall the car is a perfect fit for Marcia. The seats are comfortable to her and that's super important with her severe back/disk/spine problems. Also god forbid some jackass in an SUV T-bones the Q it's heavy and sturdy, seems like a nice safe car for our most preciosu cargo. I'm willing to bet it matches the DTS in safety.
  23. Wow... sorry to hear that buddy. LIke I've said a milion times having worked at several GM stores in my area I can say wiht confidence that tehri dealers are GMs weakest link. Just like my frined Kenny said the other day, the people selling GM cars are not GM fans or even car guys all they know is $$$. (this is the dude who traded his almost new '03 Z06 for a brand new '05 GTO)
  24. Yup! Picking it up on Monday if all goes as planned. Before I go defendnig the purchase let me say this. I was only 50% of the decision and Marcia puts up with a lot of my $hit so the car she drives shuld be up to her... BUT since she respects my opinion she decided to go with a car that we could both want to drive. As it happens al the BMW 3/5-series & MB e-classes we could afford ddi nt appeal to her at all. When I showed her the pic of the Q and read her the specs she was blown away at the price. It comes down to this: My love for RWD is stronger than my dislike of Japanese cars and love for Cadillacs. If we could have afforded a used RWD STS, Chrysler 300 or even a used Charger than things would be different. Here's a few pics. Look at how mint it is, that photo from their website is crap.
  25. WMJ: Nope, but my neighbor has one of those... a silver '88.
