Infiniti Q60 Coupe Arriving in 2016

Infiniti's new naming nomenclature has the G sedan turning into the Q50 and the G Coupe/Convertible into the Q60. While we've seen the production version of the new Q50, we didn't know when we'll see the Q60. In a interview with CarAdvice.com.au, Infiniti's global boss, Johan de Nysschen said a production version of the Q60 will arrive in 2015/2016.

“I think the coupe is an important part of the platform. Most certainly we are working right now on a coupe derivative of the car [Q50] … known at the Q60."

So why the long wait for the coupe?

“But, you know, there are a lot of priorities for us. I really want to look at expansion of the entire portfolio. So we probably need to prioritize a little bit the volume segments. So the coupe we can probably expect two and a half to three years down the road,” de Nysschen said.

de Nysschen also hinted at a high performance version of the Q50/Q60, saying "someday in the future we will be able to offer more high performance versions [of Q50] than we have today... the dynamic capabilities of this platform are very significant. It can handle far higher power than the engines we are using at launch."

I don't like the A4-A5, 328i-428i, Q50-Q60 naming schemes. It is confusing and sort of pointless. Mercedes has got it nailed down, the C-class in sedan and coupe form, E-class in sedan and coupe, etc. It makes sense. It looks like Cadillac will continue on with ATS coupe and sedan and CTS coupe and sedan. Cadillac and Mercedes have it right, Infiniti seems like a mess right now, but I suppose they have a 20 year plan.

Bah- all the alphanumerics basically suck, but at least once it's ingrained, people know what you're talking about. A mid-stream change for change's sake is just confusing.

Plus... the infiniti q45 was a flop, and audi already HAS a Q5 and Q7!

    Q5 <> Q50... is there REALLY such a low-tide of imagination/creativity in autodom?

    • I stumbled upon a small meetup this weekend. There's a new custom/restoration shop about two blocks from my home and I was walking to a Casey's to grab a cake donut for my wife (hahaha) and this is right next to the Casey's.  This grey Chevelle was perfect, absolutely perfect. The plate is the name of the shop, Xtreme (restoration, bodywork, modification). I'm sure this is their show piece, and what a piece of work/art it is! I believe the van is theirs as well.  Later that day we ran to Aldi and came across the International Scout. it was far from mint condition, but it was "pretty good" but even cooler to see it just out and about.
    • That's an exciting purchase, EV is tempting to me, but I still think all these current Gen EV's are too expensive compared to ICE cars.  If they can cut weight and cost 15% then I think the flood gates open on EV sales.
    • Oh, very interesting, will have to look into that. I have been so busy with work, I got my wife setup and have not had much time to learn since she drives it 99% of the time.
    • Personally, I wouldn't even care about the size when it comes to public chargers, because I'd almost never use them. My goal would be to never use them, unless it's free AND convenient.  They're not a value proposition. They're like any other vehicle priced over 100k, they're a "want" and never a "need". They're a "because I can". Nobody is buying an S Class thinking they got a good value over a Camry or a G Wagen buyer thinking they got a better value than an X5 or Highlander buyer. It's more, more, more of things because the buyer can. It's basically the same as comparing an EV9 to an R1S. There isn't value in an R1S but it has a bigger battery, waaaaay more power from more motors and has fancy off road features. There's no value proposition for an R1S but it does have a bigger battery, four motors optional, a ton more power, air suspension. If you want more things, you can get more things for more money. That's how luxury brands have operated forever. A GMC Hummer EV is just that, a luxury purchase.
    • They take up 1 1/2 charger spaces in parking, so I am sure others are not thrilled to have them in the charging lots. Twice the price of my EV9 and yet I am not sure I would have really get anything extra by having a hummer. Course if they gave it to me I would take it.
