Spying: 2018 Buick Enclave Sweats It Out

Caught! Next Buick Enclave enjoying the heat.

The Buick Enclave and Chevrolet Traverse are well past their sell-by-date. GM knows this and will be introducing new versions of both within the next year. We haven't seen any spy shots of either model, til today.

Autoblog published some spy shots of the next-generation Buick Enclave undergoing some hot-weather testing in Death Valley. From the shots, it looks like Buick will be retaining the shape of the current model. Although, it looks like the roofline has changed somewhat towards the back. We can pick out the new grille that we first saw on the new LaCrosse along with a set of LED running lights.

The Enclave is expected to use a stretched version of the Chi platform that currently underpins the new GMC Acadia.

Interesting, that is weighted down with what ever is in the trailer.

So is the Chi platform part of the Cha Cha Cha Chia family? ;)

Cool, to see, I hope we see this in the next 6 months at an autoshow, Hopefully Detroit.

    9-speed transmission?  I know GM has the 8, and they're coming out with a 10... didn't know they were doing a 9...

The 9-speed auto is the FWD transmission that GM and Ford are going to share.  Ford did the work on the RWD 10-speed, GM did the work on the FWD 9-speed, and they're sharing the tech of both with each other.  Seems like a pretty fair swap.  Ford has used GM FWD 6-speeds for a number of years.

The Hyundai Santa Cruz has been talked about off and on since its debut as a concept in 2015. But it seems the truck is finally coming to fruition as some new spy shots reveal.
Compared to the concept which was an extended cab, Hyundai is using a crew cab layout. The bed is quite short, possibly around four to five feet being our guess. Up front, the Santa Cruz gets the same front end treatment as the refreshed 2021 Santa Fe - wider front grille and new headlight treatment.
Following in the footsteps of the Honda Ridgeline, the Santa Fe will be based on a unibody platform. In this case, the Santa Fe. This likely means power will come from either the 2.4L four-cylinder with 185 horsepower and 178 pound-feet of torque or turbocharged 2.0L four-cylinder with 235 hp and 260 lb-ft. Our money is on the latter engine.
Expect more details to come out on the Santa Cruz before its launch next year.

    • Daimler has deepend their ties with CATL alliance as they focus on building fast-charging EV batteries with 400 plus range and what they say is to Lead in battery technologies globally. Daimler say the goal is to give an average of 435 miles or 700 Kilometers to an EV auto on average. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/08/05/daimler-catl-long-range-electric-car-batteries/ Due to the lead that Rivian has in EV Truck production, VW is watching and keeping an Eye on Rivian as it considers a Global EV Truck for the company. VW has also stated that the Scirocco is retired after it's third time in production and there is no rush or interest in releasing another 2 door coupe either in EV or ICE format. The era of the car is coming to a close, expect the future to be about trucks, CUV/SUV and specialty activity auto's. https://www.autoblog.com/2020/08/04/vw-electric-cars-pickup-ev-meb-platform/
    • Update on EV stuff going on. California Zero Labs has continued to expand from custom work which they still do to also offering two specific quality off road auto's. Converted Ford Bronco's and Land Rover's. Pricing is NOT for the Faint of Heart! Luxury EV's with Range and off road capable for the Rich. https://www.zerolabs.com/
    • Very close on the pics, too. B-59 was closer to the 2nd one (& was white), the GP and Cat are spot on (configuration & colors), Charger was black w/ black graphics, but the ‘65 was a worn, plain, dark blue post coupe.    I forgot one : also had a ‘64 Merc Marauder 2-dr fastback w a 4bbl 390.
