    Rumorpile: 3 Crossovers For 1 Cadillac

    Currently in the Cadillac lineup, there is only one crossover, the SRX. But a new report from Reuters says that lineup will grow to three by 2017.

    Three automotive supplier sources who know of Cadillac's plans say that a replacement for the midsize SRX will be the first model to arrive around in 2016. A year after, a small and large crossover will bookend the midsize model.

    Why three crossovers? Cadillac is in the middle of fleshing out its product lineup to better compete with the likes of the German automakers in the U.S. and in China. With the likes of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz adding crossovers of all sizes to satisfy the need of crossovers, Cadillac wants a slice of that.

    Hopefully SRX goes to Alpha platform. I could see them doing a Gamma or Delta based crossover to take on the GLA, then SRX gets redone off teh Equinox platform and a Lambda crossover is added. But what good does 3 FWD crossovers do them? Plus Lambda came out in 2007, is Cadillac going to get a version of it in 2016, it will be really dated by then.

    I read somewhere that SRX is moving to Lambda, but the next generation Lambda will be combined with Epsilon.

    Well this is what I do know.


    The Omega will supply one of the Crossovers if what GM is indicating is correct.

    The first Omega is the LTS sedan in 3rd QRT 2015 as a 2016. The next will be a Crossover Omega for Cadillac. Then they will follow with coupe and or convertible.

    So where does the Omega crossover slot in? Above the Escalade? And can Cadillac support 2 SUVs in high price range, when their previous high dollar offerings have failed. I'm seeing a $30k small crossover, a new SRX at $40k and a Lambda crossover at $50k. That way they can keep the Escalade at $65k as their top SUV. And is Escalade is going to have a word for a name, then all Cadillacs should. It makes no sense to make a BRX, SRX, CRX, Subaru WRX, or XRX or whatever they come up with for the 3 crossovers, then call the other SUV Escalade. Everything should have a name, Alphabet soup names have failed Cadillac and Lincoln, Infiniti has a mess of a naming structure too. These companies so desperately want to copy the Germans they will do anything.

    Be interesting to see what the compact CUV will be as well as the so called full size since the SRX is mid size.

    If a sub-SRX crossover is coming from Cadillac, I hope to hell it isn't as staggeringly cheap as the bmw X3 I was checking out today, because if it's as little as twice as good, I'd rather they skip that segment entirely.

    No! No! I don't want a Caddy cross over! I don't know if it's just me but I feel like crossovers have very limited appeal, so I don't think it would be a good business move.

    The SRX has been Cadillac's best selling model in the United States since 2010. Crossovers have the largest appeal of pretty much any vehicle category out there.

    I agree there is a mass appeal it seems for these. The first time I was in one, it felt like I was in the belly of a june bug. The ride was better than I expected but it had a sort of old fashioned "station wagon" feel to it (in a rounder, wider sort of way). Maybe that is the appeal.

    Sheeple love crossovers.

    Crossovers = safety

    Crossovers = prestige

    Crossovers = more passenger space

      Cadillac's newest V-series, the CT4-V and CT5-V, disappointed fans when they debuted on May 30th by being substantially less powerful than their predecessors. The CT4-V gets a 2.7-liter turbo four cylinder producing 320 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, that's a 130 horsepower deficit compared to the ATS-V.   The story for the CT5-V is similar with a 3.0-liter twin-turbo making 355 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque compared to the 640 horsepower of the CTS-V.  GM President Mark Reuss called the previous cars "hammer" and that they intimidated customers. Thus, Cadillac responded by extending the V-series badge down to be more accessible to more customers. 
      Cadillac fans wouldn't have it, and Cadillac was quick to respond saying that more powerful versions of the CT4-V and CT5-V would be on the way, even bringing out higher potency test cars for the Detroit Grand Prix. The CT5-V was rumored to be running with the Blackwing V8, and that car getting the 4.2 Twin-Turbo V8 is not a new rumor. 
      The controversy comes down to what to call the higher powered models when they do arrive. Some fans felt that the models already shown should be V-Sports and the more powerful versions get the V moniker. However, it seems that Cadillac has settled on Blackwing as the name for the high power versions of their V-series, and that name may not be limited to just models with the Blackwing V8, making Blackwing more of a sub-brand for Cadillac like Denali is for GMC.

      The Cadillac CT6 has been in the news a lot lately.  First it was potentially canceled as its home factory in the U.S. is slated for closure.       For 2020, the CT6 will see a base price rise of $8,500 over the 2019 model to $59,900. With that rise, the base engine becomes the 3.6 liter V6 and AWD standard. It is also adding about $3,500 worth of active safety equipment as standard. 
      Moving up to the Premium Luxury model will add $12,000 to the price tag but comes with Cadillac's famous Super Cruise automated driving system, the rear seat package, the Comfort and Technology package, and the 34-speaker Panaray sound system. At $75,490, that's actually a $2,500 discount on those packages over the 2019 model. 
      The top model, the CT6 Platinum will come standard with the Blackwing V8, replacing the 3.0 twin-turbo on the spec sheet. It also gains 20-inch wheels that were optional last year. 
      While the future of the CT6 is murky, the fact that GM continues to make improvements to the model gives us hope that it will live on.

      Cadillac SuperCruise will be available on over 200,000 miles of North American roadways later this year.  Cadillac is adding an additional 70,000 miles to the existing 130,000 miles already in the system by the 4th quarter 2019.  Cadillac owners will receive an over-the-air update once the system upgrade is completed. 
      On top of the increase in SuperCruise map availability, Cadillac will also make system adjustments to improve performance and enhancements to the Driver Attention system.   Last year Cadillac updated the system so that the car would automatically adjust lane centering if a large vehicle was passing close by and also added additional messages in the driver cluster to give more detail as to why SuperCruise may not be available at the moment. 
      Cadillac says that CT6 owners have driven more than 2.5 million miles with SuperCruise active since it was introduced on 2018 model year vehicles.
