Chevrolet Adds Custom Sport Package to Silverado

    • If you think the current Chevrolet Silverado has too much brightwork, the 2015 Silverado Custom Sport package might be for you.

If you think the current Chevrolet Silverado has too much brightwork, the 2015 Silverado Custom Sport package might be for you. As a special edition package available on the LT and LTZ models, the Silverado Custom Sport package swaps out the chrome front and rear bumper, and grille surround for body colored versions. Chrome is added to the door handles and side mirrors. You can have any color of Custom Sport you like as long as it is white, black, or white diamond (LTZ only). The package also includes projector beam headlights, tow hooks, and heated mirrors.

Chevy says this special edition pays homage to the 1967 Chevrolet Custom Sport that was available with bright trim and bucket seats.

The Custom Sport package will cost between $1,950 - $2,950 with the higher number likely applying when selecting the white diamond tricoat paint.

2015 Silverado Offers Custom Sport Package

Inspired by Chevy Custom Sport Trucks that helped launch personal-use pickups

DETROIT – With the new 2015 Silverado Custom Sport special edition, Chevrolet pays homage to one of its most iconic pickups, adding a sophisticated monochromatic look to double- and crew-cab Silverados.

The Custom Sport package features body-colored front and rear bumpers and a body-colored grille surround with a chrome-accented black grille. Other accents include 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome door handles and mirror caps, and chrome body-side moldings. The package also includes projector beam headlamps, tow hooks and heated power-adjusted mirrors.

“The Custom Sport special edition was inspired by Chevy Custom Sport Trucks of the late 1960s,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet Trucks marketing director. “Those CST models added a touch of elegance to a great all-around truck, just like the Custom Sport package for the new Silverado.”

The redesigned 1967 Chevrolet pickup entered the market at a time when trucks were starting to move off the jobsites and into the driveways of cities and suburbs. The 1967 Custom Sport Truck, with its bright trim, plush carpet and bucket seats, helped launch a wave of personal use pickups that continues today.

For the 2015 Silverado, the Custom Sport package will be available as LT and LTZ models, including Z71s. LT models will be available in black or white, while LTZs will come in black or White Diamond Tricoat.

Package prices will vary from $1,950 to $2,950, depending on the model. Dealers can place orders starting this month.

One thing I was fan of post-MCE GMT900 Silverado 2500s was the Z71 package with body colored bumpers.

GMC has the body colored bumpers in the All-Terrain package on the new Sierra. It does have more color choices than the ones offered for the this Silverado, though. The truck genuinely looks good.

I generally by GMC for the lack of the chrome.

I just wish they had an option where you could opt for Chrome or painted bumpers and grills on what ever truck. I am not a big chrome guy.

Also with a lot of the chrome plastic anymore it just get dinged up anyways. That is my only real complaint on our Terrain is the chrome over the grill. I plan to replace it next year as it is looking crappy while the rest of the nose is pretty clean.

A Terrain with body color grill would look really hot  especially on a black one.

It would be better than the Denali. I am not a big fan of the Denali grill even if many others are. It is just my own thing.

As for TTV6 you would have to cut some weight and lower it if you can. It is too top heavy for any real performance and needs to drop down below 4000  pounds to make the best of it. Maybe the next gen.

I love my Terrain but I am realistic. As it is now it is not a good performance platform and it is not an off road vehicle as some want to think it is. It is basically a SUV like Minivan that my wife likes and I am not ashamed to be seen in it.

Now in the next gen if they could lower it properly to where it still handles and once they remove some weight it might make for an appealing package. The other considerations is How Much. The Denali now is over $41K loaded. How high can you go and people will still buy?

Got to give Ford one thing, they offer a lot of truck-related packages that allows for a lot of individualization.
The more Chevy & GMC offer, the better for the consumer.

The 2nd truck is not a LTZ, it's the 2014 LT w/ Z71 option. As Bill pointed out, 2015 Z71's have a silver painted grille ('14s have black colored grille).

The truck in the original post is not an LTZ Z71, it's an LT Z71.  The '15 LTZ Z71 has a silver grille.

Not a 2014 LT Z71, but a 2015 LT Z71, it has the body color door handles and mirror caps.  The 2015 LT Z71 has body color handles and caps, but retains the special black Z71 grille.  The 2015 LTZ Z71 has the silver grille, and I am not sure, but I think it has different wheels too.

For what it is worth we have a 2015 LT Z71 and it looks just like the second one posted with the chrome grill with the black inserts. It also has the same wheels. We lack the lower chrome on the front bumper.

The bigger difference is the leather on the inside and some detail items.

Unless  you know what to look for you can pass a LT off at a LTZ pretty easy on the outside.

Projector beam headlights. LOL that should be std equipment in every stinking Silverado for the prices being charged for these things not a one off package only!

Love the look of the crew cab in Summit White in the press release. Too bad I can't actually get one that looks like the pic in the press release. Summit White is only offered in Double Cab and White Diamond is the alternative in Crew :(

I really do like this, this makes me feel like I get a say in what gets placed on my vehicle, and how it looks. Makes me feel like I am building my own dream car.

Chevrolet Remains the Industry’s Fastest-Growing Full-Line Brand, with 11 Consecutive Months of Growth

      ·         Retail sales for GM and Chevrolet have increased year over year every month since April 2015
      ·         February retail sales up 13 percent for Chevrolet, estimated share up 1 percentage point
      ·         GM retail sales up 7 percent in February, estimated share up 0.4 percentage points
      ·         Cadillac retail sales up 4 percent in February
      ·         Buick total sales up 2 percent
      ·         GMC sets ATP record for February
      ·         Commercial deliveries up for 28th consecutive month

DETROIT – General Motors (NYSE: GM) continued to grow its retail sales and market share in February, a trend that began April 2015. Since then, retail deliveries have been up every month compared to a year ago, and retail market share has been up in 10 of 12 months. February retail deliveries totaled 179,958 units, up 7 percent. GM’s estimated retail share is up 0.4 percentage points.

The Chevrolet brand remained the industry’s fastest-growing full line brand in February, with retail deliveries climbing 13 percent compared to a year ago. Estimated retail share is up 1 percentage point on a year-over-year basis. In addition, Cadillac retail deliveries were up 4 percent.

“Our strategy is simple: grow profitable retail share while maintaining discipline with inventory levels and incentive spending, while reducing rental deliveries,” said Kurt McNeil, GM’s U.S. vice president of sales operations.

Due to a planned reduction in rental deliveries, GM’s total sales of 227,825 were down slightly year over year. GM reduced daily rental deliveries by about 16,500 units, or 39 percent in February. GM grew its Commercial business in February for the 28th consecutive month.

GM expects to operate with about a 70-days supply of vehicles throughout the year in most months, with some months higher or lower. February month-end inventories were at a 67-days supply. GM continues to grow retail market share with incentives below domestic companies and other key competitors.

As a result of lower rental deliveries, GM expects its fleet mix in 2016 to be about 20 percent of total sales, compared with a historical range of 22 to 24 percent. In 2015, GM reduced rental deliveries by about 50,000 units compared to 2014. In the first two months of 2016, rental deliveries are down about 30,000 units, compared to a year ago.

“The redesign of our full-size pickups and SUVs, and the smart bets we made to enter the small crossover and mid-size pickup segments with vehicles like the Chevrolet Trax and Colorado couldn’t have been timed better,” McNeil said. “The economy is growing, Millennials are becoming a major force in the market and we’re doing everything we can to meet retail demand, including increased production of mid-size pickups and investing in additional V8 engine capacity.”

Millennials (customers under age 34) now buy more new vehicles than any generation besides Baby Boomers, and they account for 20 percent of GM sales, up from 5 percent in 2010.

GM’s products plans are tailored to these generational shifts. Redesigned vehicles launching in 2016, including Chevrolet Cruze, Volt, Camaro, Malibu and Trax. At the same time, Buick is expanding its portfolio with the Cascada convertible and Envision crossover, GMC is launching an all-new Acadia crossover, and Cadillac is launching the all-new CT6 prestige sedan and XT5 crossover.

“We continue to be optimistic about the continued strength of the U.S. economy,” said Mustafa Mohatarem, GM’s chief economist. “Employment remains strong, interest rates remain at historically low levels and gas prices are stable, so we expect auto sales to remain strong for the foreseeable future.”
February Retail Sales and Business Highlights vs. 2015 (except as noted)

      Chevrolet
      ·         Chevrolet had its best February sales since 2007, with cars up 34 percent, crossovers up 5 percent and trucks up 3 percent.
      ·         Malibu was up 87 percent for the model’s best February since at least 1979.
      ·         Camaro, Cruze and Impala were up 39 percent, 27 percent and 14 percent, respectively. Volt was up 96 percent.
      ·         Suburban, Tahoe, Traverse and Trax were up 36 percent, 22 percent, 15 percent and 26 percent, respectively.

      ·         Denali trim penetration was the highest ever at 24 percent.

      Buick
      ·         Encore and Enclave sales were up 26 percent and 6 percent, respectively. Encore achieved best ever February sales.
      ·         Buick’s total sales were up 2 percent.

      Cadillac
      ·         Escalade and SRX sales were up 22 percent and 13 percent, respectively.

Average Transaction Prices/Incentives (J.D. Power PIN estimates)
      ·         ATPs, which reflect transaction prices after incentives, were approximately $34,200 in February, up about $680 from January and more than $3,600 above the industry average.
      ·         GM’s incentive spending as a percentage of ATP was 12.4 percent, which reflects lower year-over-year spending on trucks and higher spending on passenger cars being replaced with all-new designs. Industry average spending in February was 11.1 percent.

      Fleet and Commercial
      ·         Commercial sales grew 7 percent year over year in February and for the calendar year to date, after growing 38 percent from 2013 to 2015.

Two years from Chevrolet's introduction of the latest-generation Silverado, the company has unveiled the facelifted 2016 model.

The big change is up front where Chevrolet designers transformed the clip. A new body-color strip across the middle of the grille is paired with new headlights. Higher trim models such as the Z71 get dual strands of LEDs. There is also new bumper and hood. At this time, we don't know what lower-tier models look like or even the rest of the truck.

There is some good news as Chevrolet says the 8-speed automatic transmission will be expanded, but no mention as to what engines. The 5.3L V8 is a likely model. Also coming is a new version of Chevrolet's MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and AndroidAuto integration.

The 2016 Silverado is expected to arrive in this fall.

2016 Silverado: The New Face of Strong
Bolder, more sculpted look reflects Silverado strength, dependability Available support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay Expanded use of 8-speed transmissions; additional safety technologies

DETROIT – Chevy Trucks are on a roll, with Chevrolet pickup sales up 32 percent so far this year. Chevrolet intends to strengthen this momentum with significant updates for the 2016 Silverado 1500 full-size pickup.

“The redesigned 2016 Silverado will build on Chevy Trucks’ legacy of dependability. It will feature a more muscular appearance and offer new customer-focused technologies,” said Sandor Piszar, marketing director for Chevy Trucks.

“New front end designs with bold horizontal elements, sculpted hoods and dramatic lighting reflect the strength and refinement that have helped make Silverado the fastest growing full-size pickup brand this year.”

Other changes for 2016 will include expanded use of 8-speed automatic transmissions, updated Chevy MyLink with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and additional safety technologies.

The redesign of the 2016 Silverado 1500 is part of an aggressive strategy to build on Chevy Trucks’ momentum.

Since the introduction of the all-new Silverado 1500 in the spring of 2013, Silverado sales have grown by double digits, on a percentage basis, each year. Through June of this year, Silverado sales are up 14.6 percent. Chevrolet also sold 41,575 midsize Colorados during the same period.

More product details will be available this fall, closer to the public debut of the redesigned 2016 Silverado 1500.

The big news about the Ford F-150 is how it's constructed from aluminum which allows for improved fuel economy and massive weight loss. Chevrolet is going to be taking aim at this with a new social media campaign and ad.

Automotive News reports that the ad features a focus group asked the question if a grizzly bear lumbers into the room, which cage would you take? The aluminum or steel one? Most of the group goes for the steel one.

"Our trucks are built with high-strength steel. We think that's a tactical advantage and an important differentiator. We have a pretty healthy sense of humor about it," said Sandor Piszar, the marketing director for the Silverado.

This ad brings the topic of the aluminum construction to the forefront - something Ford hasn't really mentioned in its ads for the F-150. But it also brings risks to both brands.

For Ford, it could mean talking about the aluminum construction. This is something the brand has avoided talking about due to reports about higher costs for accident repairs. (Ford has said there isn't a significant difference between the repair costs for aluminum and steel).

For Chevrolet, the ad could be hypocritical as they use aluminum for certain body parts of the Silverado - such as the hood. Also, rumors have been flying around the GM is planning to use more aluminum for the next-generation pickup.

"If I'm a GM engineer working on the next truck, I'm scratching my head a little bit. They're probably telling the marketing people, 'Hey guys, you realize we're already lining up our aluminum suppliers, right?'" said Jim Sanfilippo, an independent marketing consultant.

"Chevy's got a lot of good things to talk about right now. I'd stick to talking about the merits of their own product and not look like they're running from something."

With the new Ford F-150 selling and Nissan's next-generation Titan just around the corner, the pickup truck market is once again heating up. To get ready for the next onslaught, General Motors is readying a refresh of the full-size trucks. A spy photographer happen to get some shots of the 2017 Chevrolet Silverado.
The shots reveal that Chevrolet is planning some changes for the Silverado's front end with a new grille and headlights with LEDs like on the GMC Sierra. Also changing up front is a new hood design. GM is also looking to changing a few body panels to aluminum - the hood and front fenders being the likely ones.
Around back, expect new taillights, along with some change to the bed - a new lighting setup or new storage. The inside appears to be unchanged.
Mechanical changes are reported to be a new eight-speed automatic for the 5.3L V8 when the truck is launched later this year. 2017 will see a new ten-speed automatic that has been jointly developed with Ford.
