Meet the First Model From the Genesis Brand, the G90

      Genesis Reveals Their First Model

Hyundai's new luxury sub-brand, Genesis has revealed a pair of design sketches for its first model, the G90. This model will be the brand's flagship and replace the Equus sedan.

Hyundai describes the G90 as “elegantly designed” and “technology packed.” This will be the first production model to use the Genesis' ‘Athletic Elegance’ design language. The sketches show off a sedan that is low-slung with a long hood, small greenhouse, and a fastback silhouette. The front end boasts a large hexagonal grille found on the current Genesis sedan and a set of headlights that wrap into the front fenders.

“Genesis’ new large luxury sedan G90 will deliver a concept of ‘New Luxury’ to our customers. The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience,” said Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor.

Hyundai will introduce the G90 in South Korea next month.

‘New Luxury’ Takes Shape - Hyundai Motor Unveils Rendering of New G90

    • New large sedan G90 to top Genesis brand’s luxury model range
    • ‘Athletic Elegance’ brings graceful and profound elegance to the new model

November 10, 2015 – Hyundai Motor has revealed the first rendering of its new range-topping G90 luxury sedan, which is named EQ900 in Korea. The elegantly designed, technology packed G90 hints at the recently-launched Genesis brand’s design identity and future direction.
Woong-Chul Yang, Head of Hyundai Motor R&D Center and Vice Chairman of Hyundai Motor, said, “Genesis’ new large luxury sedan G90 will deliver a concept of ‘New Luxury’ to our customers. The G90 sits at the pinnacle of the Genesis brand and demonstrates how we apply our human-centered values to give our customer true satisfaction in every aspect of the vehicle ownership experience.”
As the Genesis brand’s flagship model, G90 is a blueprint for change and innovation that will distinguish the Genesis brand. Majoring on ‘human-centered’ technology combined with engaging driving dynamics, G90 boasts a raft of world-best safety features and technological innovations to set itself apart in the luxury market.
G90 also showcases the Genesis brand’s hallmark design style ‘Athletic Elegance’, interpreted by the newly-formed Prestige Design Division to bring graceful and profound elegance to G90’s significant proportions. Crowned by the Genesis emblem, the grand radiator grille combined with sophisticated headlamps communicates the car’s dynamic, future-orientated character. A theme that flows along a body-length character line to the long and agile rear lamp cluster completes the Athletic Elegance of G90.

Hyundai Motor created the Genesis brand for a new generation of discerning consumers. Capitalizing on its success in the fast-growing global car market, Hyundai Motor will launch six new Genesis models by 2020.

The launch of G90 is scheduled for early next month in Korea.

I still think they need their own unique look.  The grille is Audi-like, the tail lights are like an S-class.  The concept looks pretty good, but I think they'd be better off making something that stands out, rather than blends in.

I like the way it looks. Again, there's only so many ways to slice an onion, and I think this looks quite stately, and derivative...yes...quite.

But we can also realize that perhaps not even one element at all is a blatant copy of anything. There's a lot of inspiration, but I think Hyundai -err I mean the Genesis brand has done quite a lot in differentiation.

So the Genesis brand can now be catapulted for being in the hunt for being top of the second-tier mainstream luxury brands. Not that they weren't like this before as Hyundai. Yes...quite.

    • First 100,000 total cars or first 100,000 per manufacturer?  Still 10% is higher than the old 2.5% so prices will go up, from before.  And if this is foreshadowing, are they going to put a 10% tariff on the first 100k cars from Mexico and Canada?  And it used to be 0, so no matter what, the 2026 car prices are going way up.
    • I can see this deal helping Jaguar Land Rover as I would be surprised if they sold 100,000 autos in the US. @drew, do you know if they do or not? As for any mass produced auto that sells well, I cannot see this deal being that great.
    • Going to College in Japan, the first time I went to the local Kobe Pizza Hut, I was shocked to see Octopus pizza, but WOW was it good!!! As my parents always say, you have to try it before you say you do not like it as you never know. Once you have tried it, then you have every right to say thank you, but no thank you, I will pass.
    • Thank you for the responses.  Yes, it's near the sea and seafood is big, but octopus wouldn't go to the top of their list.  Cuts of bigger fish and shrimp would be considerably more common. I would think ahead and realize that some food is visually off putting, such as octopus and, in the States, alligator or rattlesnake, even if the latter supposedly taste like chicken.  The hostess was of the sort who would be too obtuse to ask. I worked around the octopus and only ate the rice and condiments in the risotto, so the main dish was not filling.
    • The United States and United Kingdom have reached a deal on vehicle import tariffs into the U.S. that could serve as a model for future deals between the U.S. and other countries.  As part of a larger trade deal, the UK will get preferential treatment on auto tariffs for the first 100,000 vehicles imported.  Import tariffs, which started on April 3rd for UK vehicles, are currently at 25-percent and will be reduced to 10-percent on that first 100,000 units annually.  The U.K. conversely agreed to lower its tariffs from 5.1-percent to 1.8-percent. The U.S. also dropped tariffs on U.K. steel. While 10-percent on vehicles is still four times the 2.5-percent charged prior to April 3rd, it is likely to still be a lower tax than those levied on many vehicles imported from Mexico or Canada that contain only 50-percent U.S. made parts. The 25-percent Tariffs on auto parts appear to remain in place. While Jaguar and Land Rover are the obvious benefactors of this trade agreement, Nissan has manufacturing facilities in the U.K. that could be utilized for production in North America.  Previously, the Nissan plant in Sunderland, England produced the Infiniti QX30 for North America.  The plant currently produces the Nissan Juke and Nissan Qashqai (Rogue Sport), neither of which are still sold in the U.S.  Honda closed their UK manufacturing facility in 2021.
