2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Gets Its Exterior and Interior Revealed.. One Of Those Was On Purpose

The next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one the mostly anticipated car launches of this year since it breaks new ground in technology and innovation for the entire industry. The new S-Class, codenamed W221 looks to continue that trend as evidenced by some new interior shots released by Mercedes and spy shots of the exterior.

We'll start with the interior. Mercedes-Benz has filled the S-Class with a load of new technologies, the centerpiece being two 12.3 inch high-resolution screens. One takes the place of the gauge cluster while the other is a touchscreen for the infotainment system and climate control via Mercedes-Benz's mBrace2 - a cloud-based entertainment and information delivery system coming out later this year.

The new climate control system, called "thermotronic" features completely autonomous adjustment options for driver and passenger and "active perfuming system," as part of its to individually customize the smell of the vehicle interior. No word if the pine tree air freshener will be one of the smells.

Passengers will be coddled in the S-Class thanks to "energizing" massage (fourteen separate air bladders in the seatbacks) , active seat ventilation with reversing fans, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated armrests (door and center).

Now onto the new S-Class' exterior. Road & Track got their hands on some new spy shots which show the new S-Class in the flesh and it looks to be an evolution of the current design. The new S-Class loses the flared wheel arches on the current model, but gains creases along the side similar to the CLS. Also making an appearance is a massive grille, vertical LED taillights, panoramic roof, and a trunk lid borrowed from the CL.

We'll have more information the S-Class when it makes its official debut in May.

Looks like any other normal high end conservative car. Seems to have noticeable body role. Not a fan of the 3 weird circle tail lights.

Will still be very successful for them. Excess that the ubber rich will be happy to flaunt.

Lots of different price points in the premium segment.. :) The S-class, A8, 7 series, XJ seem rather down to earth compared to the Bentley and Roller..

Interior awesome, not only best in their class, but it is as good as the Ghost or Flying Spur when you take the technology advantages into account. The current S-class has a good interior, with great build quality but it is simple. This new one has more of a designer feel, it is more exciting.

I love the look of the current S-class, the rear end and wheel arches especially. I like this new rear end too, it has a bit of a Bentley vibe, and a bit CLS, but I wouldn't have minded if the tail lights were a little more like the current car or more horizontal like Benz of old. My only complaint on the exterior is the LED bar with the eyebrow look, that has been done, what they should have done is make the daytime running lights circles (like BMW) but with 3-point stars. No car has daytime running lights in the shape of their logo and they could have been the first.

I like the idea of day time running lights in the shape of the company logo or brand name.

Just imagen a cool outlined GMC, Chevy bowtie shape daytime running light, tri-shield lights, etc. Would be pretty cool.

    • First off, I am NOT wanting this to be political about our current president, but I do acknowledge that some will want to go political on this. Springsteen Fans Walk After Trump Comments | National Circus While i respect those that walked out of his concert, canceled tickets, etc. this I believe brings up a bigger issue. The intelligence to lead a nation and the effects one has on those citizens. Some say #47 is having a positive effect on the U.S. others say he is having a negative effect and the current administration is taking credit for the current low inflation, low unemployment, etc. Yet, what is happening now from an employment, selling price, etc. is actually the effects of the last administration. WHY, most businesses are selling product they ordered back at the end of 2024 at a set price and received before tariffs went into effect. It has always been normal for businesses to have 6 to 9 months of stock on hand unless you are a true little mom and pop shop where you tend to be more month by month. In this regard we have seen the current administration tariff war end in closing down small companies due to no longer being able to afford their products that are produced in China and abandoning the product in China as they cannot afford to pay the higher prices. This bring it to the point I am making in what I believe Bruce Springsteen is calling for, people to think about how businesses are really run, the costs of things to come and the pay to play affect of the current administration. We have seen plenty of battery and EV auto plants now put on hold, we have seen plenty of green energy projects canceled or put on hold.  The effect on the auto industry will affect millions and Tesla just announced a minimum of 1 week idling of their U.S. assembly plants due to oversupply of EVs. We are coming up on the end of the two-month freeze by auto companies on the prices they sell their auto's for. Will it truly end in big or small price increases? How much of the cost of high tariffs will the companies eat to keep sales going? If you have not repaired your auto at the Dealerships, 3rd party repair places or did the repair yourself buying parts at an auto part store, then you have not felt the increased cost yet, but I can tell you things have gotten much more expensive than they were. • Ugh for the summer drivers. WA the only state with higher gas prices than last year
    • Oh absolutely! That's a beautiful interior.
    • I have tan sheepskin seat covers to keep the tan leather looking good in my GC.  On the Navigator, I really like the blue and white interiors from the generation before the current (maybe 2019 era?).
    • The only time I have hated my tan seats was when the wife wore new blue jeans that she had not soaked in vinegar to set the dark blue dye and so it came off on the seat and was a pain to clean. I usually do a wipe down/cleaning every 3 months so it looks good and clean.
