    2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Gets Its Exterior and Interior Revealed.. One Of Those Was On Purpose

    The next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class is one the mostly anticipated car launches of this year since it breaks new ground in technology and innovation for the entire industry. The new S-Class, codenamed W221 looks to continue that trend as evidenced by some new interior shots released by Mercedes and spy shots of the exterior.

    We'll start with the interior. Mercedes-Benz has filled the S-Class with a load of new technologies, the centerpiece being two 12.3 inch high-resolution screens. One takes the place of the gauge cluster while the other is a touchscreen for the infotainment system and climate control via Mercedes-Benz's mBrace2 - a cloud-based entertainment and information delivery system coming out later this year.

    The new climate control system, called "thermotronic" features completely autonomous adjustment options for driver and passenger and "active perfuming system," as part of its to individually customize the smell of the vehicle interior. No word if the pine tree air freshener will be one of the smells.

    Passengers will be coddled in the S-Class thanks to "energizing" massage (fourteen separate air bladders in the seatbacks) , active seat ventilation with reversing fans, heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated armrests (door and center).

    Now onto the new S-Class' exterior. Road & Track got their hands on some new spy shots which show the new S-Class in the flesh and it looks to be an evolution of the current design. The new S-Class loses the flared wheel arches on the current model, but gains creases along the side similar to the CLS. Also making an appearance is a massive grille, vertical LED taillights, panoramic roof, and a trunk lid borrowed from the CL.

    We'll have more information the S-Class when it makes its official debut in May.

    Looks like any other normal high end conservative car. Seems to have noticeable body role. Not a fan of the 3 weird circle tail lights.

    Will still be very successful for them. Excess that the ubber rich will be happy to flaunt.

    This seems more of a regular rich person car...the uber rich will go for a Bentley and the mega rich will go for a Roller.. :)

    Lots of different price points in the premium segment.. :) The S-class, A8, 7 series, XJ seem rather down to earth compared to the Bentley and Roller..

    Interior awesome, not only best in their class, but it is as good as the Ghost or Flying Spur when you take the technology advantages into account. The current S-class has a good interior, with great build quality but it is simple. This new one has more of a designer feel, it is more exciting.

    I love the look of the current S-class, the rear end and wheel arches especially. I like this new rear end too, it has a bit of a Bentley vibe, and a bit CLS, but I wouldn't have minded if the tail lights were a little more like the current car or more horizontal like Benz of old. My only complaint on the exterior is the LED bar with the eyebrow look, that has been done, what they should have done is make the daytime running lights circles (like BMW) but with 3-point stars. No car has daytime running lights in the shape of their logo and they could have been the first.

    I like the idea of day time running lights in the shape of the company logo or brand name.

    Just imagen a cool outlined GMC, Chevy bowtie shape daytime running light, tri-shield lights, etc. Would be pretty cool.

    Cadillac could actually use LED light bars to create either the wreath or the wide V they put on cars in the 60s. That would be a lot better than just a vertical light.

      I am not aware of travel cases for internal drives. Usually you have the drive and once you have made sure you own static electricity is discharged on your body, open the computer and unplug the power cable and data cable to the HD. Then you unscrew the screws holding the drive in. Put the drive into an Anti-Static bag and then usually into a box that has foam padding on all sides to protect the drive and then tape it up to close it.  With both drives in their proper storage bags, you can then have both drives in between foam insulation for handling any dropping of the box, etc. Pack them in a box and tape shut, should then easily handle going through your carry on or checked in luggage. To ship a hard drive, you need to: Secure the hard drive in its original packaging or anti-static bag. If you don't have an anti-static bag, place the drive into a zipped freezer bag to prevent any moisture getting into the drive during transit. Sandwich the drive between foam or wrap it in bubble wrap to absorb any minor shocks. Put the hard drive in a padded shipping box. Close and seal the box. Label your package.       The incoming rectangular lamps on many GM cars in that era made them much more attractive.  They made a big difference. Now, as far the powerplant went, the notion of 500 cubic inches was mindboggling even during the malaise era.  If you want to see someone's jaw drop, tell a European that their engines have 8200 cc or 8.2 liters.  For those who aren't driving the occasional Mustang or Camaro you see, they freak out at anything over 2,500 or 3,000 cc.

      Thank you for the response. I want to reinstall them into the computers, especially the "newer" one.  The old one has been a real champ.   The reason for not leaving them in the desktop is that the basic tower might have to be transported ... and not by me.  That means it will be out of my possession for a while.  Since the HDs would be traveling with me, they'll have to get scanned through airport security a time or two.  I'm guessing that shouldn't mess with the data.   I've already backed up the C drive on several large 1 TB portable hard drives.  I don't want to touch the basic functions and files on the computers since I don't know how that all works.  I stay away from the drives and files I am not familiar with. I tend to donate other things to charity.   I did give the Regal I once owned to charity.   A good friend told me that, about a month or two later, he saw it being driven around the city by its new owner and we had a good laugh. This is what I want to do.  I'm just trying to figure out if the guy or gal at Office Depot can size a case based on looking up the unit and the HD in it.  Any ideas on that part?  Or should I do that and approximate the size and weight of the part to get the cases?

      I'm wondering about a lot of things related to this.  I am sure that, sadly, the passengers inside were jolted.  This is way different from a rough landing. Why was it even necessary to do it?  What was going on at the airport property at that time?  How does one even pull this off?  I've seen some vids of where they barely touch and then go off again, but this one looks way more complicated.
