Volkswagen Adds More Turbo to Tiguan

All Tiguans are turbos, this one has more.

2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo - RearNew York - The updated 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan hasn't quite reached the U.S. yet, but at the New York International Auto Show today, Volkwagen took the wraps off an higher performance version of their small crossover.

Volkswagen is calling this the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo, quite a mouthful and somewhat confusing with the Turbo moniker as all Tiguans are come equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. In standard form, the turbocharged engine in the regular Tiguan produces 184 horsepower and 224 lb-ft of torque.  For the "Turbo" model, VW pulls technology from the GTI in the form of a larger turbocharger and some upgraded strength engine internals.  For the Tiguan R-Line Turbo, power jumps 67 horsepower and 51 lb-ft of torque, bringing the grand total to 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque.  This makes it a higher output than VW's own hot hatch, the GTI which clocks in at 241 horsepower. That 258 lb-ft is available over a broad rpm range of 1900 - 5400 rpm. The Tiguan Turbo sends this extra power through an 8-speed automatic to the standard 4Motion all-wheel drive.

While more power is great, the new Tiguan also drops 170 lbs of weight benefiting both performance and fuel economy.

2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo - Interior DashboardSitting at the top of the Tiguan lineup, Volkswagen adds more luxury touches to the interior as well. Enhancements, such as premium materials like genuine American walnut wood décor, a wrapped and double-stitched center console, and upgraded Varenna leather seating surfaces. The gear shifter has now been moved onto the steering column, freeing up space for a large center console that enhances storage in the cabin. The Tiguan is offered exclusively in a two-row configuration for the North American region.

The third-generation Tiguan benefits from a next-gen infotainment system and user interface for a tech-forward experience. The next generation of Volkswagen’s 10.25-inch Digital Cockpit Pro system is standard, and a new central infotainment system with MIB4 technology features a standard 15.0-inch display on this top trim. A Driving Experience Dial located in the center console allows for easy adjustment of volume along with Drive Mode Select and the new Atmospheres feature, which combines synchronized ambient lighting and audio settings.

The top-trim Tiguan features an impressive array of standard comfort and convenience features. Wireless charging and App-Connect ensure seamless connectivity, while 3-zone Climatronic® Touch automatic climate keeps occupants comfortable. Other standard upscale features include a head-up display, 30-color ambient lighting, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon™ sound system, a power Easy/Open Close tailgate, 12-way power front seats with quilted leather seating surfaces and 10-point full-back massage and ventilation, heated rear outboard seats, and a heated steering wheel.

Safety measures increase as well with the addition of 4 more airbags over the previous model.

2026 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo

Availability and pricing of the all-new 2026 Tiguan SEL R-Line Turbo will be announced closer to launch this Fall.

    I really like that interior...

Agree, that is such a superior interior over the U.S. basic Black everything even in top line performance models.

    So, over all black interior.

I do like the green exterior color too, nice that it matches more of the ID family of style on the exterior.

They should have made a "GTI" version of this a decade ago. It seemed like an easy cash cow for them. Charge an extra 5-10k for parts already paid for?!? I love the idea of this.

I do as well, but I am on the truck bandwagen at the moment.  And Given VW reliability, methinks I would still buy a Subaru.

That would be a perfect little run around for me.

I think this could be perfect for many people who want a truck, are fine with 2 maybe 3 people if a bench seat is offered as this truck would work great in the City and Suburban areas for runs to the dump, Home Depot / Lowes and doing small project stuff.

Honestly, most homes probably DO NOT need a mid-size or full-size Pickup truck.

Very few people NEED as much vehicle as we have, most of us on here included(certainly myself). We typically buy what we want and can find a way to justify over what is the bare minimum needed.

    • Used this site to have it generate me an exterior and interior version of a KIA EV9 with Genesis look. Deep Image https://deepimg.ai/ai-image-generator/ Have to say I really like this look! @Drew Dowdell I could so enjoy this SUV. Am excited for the GV90 to come out next year if we still get it here in the U.S.
    • 1 minute 30 in and I was swearing at the guy...and I cut it short. Didnt wanna listen to his stupidity any longer than that.  1. Who the phoque does mechanics work on MODERN cars at home in 2025? 2. I get the "right to repair" outrage for Zeke's Auto Shop somewhere in  hickville, alabama or bumpkin pumpkin south carolina... but there is a reason why most people do not attempt to work on modern cars in 2025.    3. its to avoid killing one's self and others as cars today are actually sophisticated.  Do they have to be that sophisticated?  Well that is what this moron youtuber is trying to sell his idea on.   4. But at around the 1 minute mark is where his argument all went south (pun intended as it seems the folk down south in them there united states are really phoquing dumb individuals).  He goes on to say that one could fix the brakes on a car by themselves.  Its not that hard he says. But even if putting the brakes on backwards he says, you would hear a noise that something is wrong and you would just change the brakes up again to put them right.  Like he does not see the problem with what he just said?  ALL KINDS of error in thinking in that... Zeke in his business auto shop down the street should be able to hire auto mechanics students straight from an auto mechanics school to fix modern GM cars, Ford cars, KIAs, Toyotas  and all the other OEMs out there WITHOUT having to buy special proprietary equipment and computers to unlock the proprietary car's computer to be able to read the software language to be able to repair...   I will agree with that.  But Bobby Joe with his two good teeth and his blood cousin/brother-n-law  Waylon who married his sister Country Sunshine shouldnt be able to... 6. There is a reason to why computers are locked though.  Everything phoquing Bluetooth in cars today and outside hackers might and will be able to take control of the cars.  Not that would stop any hacker, but it is more difficult to do so. 7. AND....cars today ARE sophisticated.   You cant just bang on a car part today with a hammer to get it to fit or to hillybilly a solution for it.   Yeah...put a brake part on backwards he says...    Fix it later and better he says when you hear weird noise he says....  Phoque me!!!     If you are serious in doing your own car work...make the phoque sure you aint putting on nothing backwards...  I thought changing brakes are easy.  THAT is what he says too.  But that is the thing, if  putting on brakes is such an easy and trivial thing , why would you put it on backwards, but if you do put it on backwards, what else do you phoque up on the car today in 2025?   And that is with brakes...   Cars today are not just mechanical....   Does this youtuber or Zeke or Bobby Joe,  Waylon and Country Sunshine know electronics and computers?  Are they willing to learn?  They probably all flunked out and dropped out of school, so no...they have no will to learn anything new...  Any other Joe Blow...who some knowledge and its a difficult thing...   Why would you attempt to fix it yourself voiding a warranty or phoquing up another part and being in a worse position than before?   The folk that are able to work on today's cars OUTSIDE of a dealership KNOW what to do. They often HOTROD their cars and TUNE their engines different from the factory settings.  These guys ALREADY  know what to do.  Joe from accounting in your office has not the time, nor the patience to do such things.   Billy Bob in appalachia might be able to do it because Billy Bob is a car guy, but Bobby Joe with his 2 good teeth, most probably not.  Fake phoquing outrage...
