This car featured some very advanced technology in its day.

A 10 foot 2 inch fiberglass body in the style of a city car and

a hybrid powertrain. Notice no quotations on hybrid. It was

refered to as a hybrid even though it was shown years

before the Insight & Prius were twinkles in their respective

Nipponese parent's eyes.

As you might expect it had electric motors & a conventional

gasoline engine as well.

I think I know it but I cant think of the name. Was it an 80s concept? BTW how many wheels did it have? I am thinking that GM Lean Machine for some reason.

Sounds like the curvy early '80s Chevy concept with sliding side doors..I don't recall the name, but saw it in person at Disney World at Epcot Center in the early '80s.

That's the one I was thinking of..the Citation concept. The greenhouse of the EV-1 reminds me of this concept.

The above red barofsoap was first created for EPCOT for '82 and was named 'Aero 2000'. That version had skirted front wheels and a bobbed (much shorter) tail. It featured single-stick controls (ala the '58 Firebird III), HUD, rear cameras and a host of other high tech features. cd was .23. This was a non-running concept built around a 3-cyl TD.

It was modestly reskinned (as seen above), aparently powered & renamed the 'Aero 2002'. I have a picture of President Reagan driving it, and although the Chevy Bowtie can be seen, the caption refers to it as the 'Saturn subcompact'.

I am still thinking this is a Citation concept. Citation X11 or something. I think it was 1984 this concept came out.

This will be an uphill battle... since I've read abotu this car in a

BRITISH car book I've had mo luck finding out more about it

on the internet or otherwise. It's very unknown.

Nope, it's not from the late 70s & it's not from the 80s.

It's not the Aero 2000 and was not featured at EPCOT.

No ties to Saturn, the EV1 or to bell bottoms... I'm pretty sure.

Here's a quote:

You are talking about the '64 GM Runabout. Pretty sure than was non-powered, but not 100% sure.

AmRev makes a good deduction about "petrol", tho if it was from a British pub, that could explain the terminology.

I am familiar with numerous dual fuel vehicles, but not a gas/electic one. I do not believe the ElectroVair retained an IC motor....

The car is GM but it's not an Opel.

Like I said in the original post, there's a mention of it in

a book I have on Automotive History & other such stuff.

The book was published in G.B. but it shows a sketch of

the car in question wiht a license plate that reads:

HYBRID

XP _ _ _

It can't be that, Balt, the 511 had three wheels. Sixty-8 said it had four wheels at all corners.

Sorry, brain's quicker than my crappy typing skills. I typed

XP833 instead of XP883. My bad. There's an

illustration of this car in my book with a vanity plate that

reads XP833 and above it includes the word HYBRID.

I'll scan it in sometime in the next few weeks after I finish

unpacking my crap at the new house.

Hybrids are not a practical solution to the problems of fossil fuels

from the Middle East. They're half a$$ed expen$ive toys for

dumb celebrities and people who want to look like they're super

environmentally friendly without having to go through the effort

of actually hugging a tree.
