If you don't want to rebadge them then sell em as Holdens here. If you got a damn good car then sell it!

I expect we get new sheet metal but the underpinning will not get watered down much with the way GM is starting to work. [Like Saturn Opel for example]

These would fit in the Pontiac line so well as a mid range performance sedan. It would thou over shadow the G5 and G6.

Make mine the dark Club Sport!

Who cares if they are rebadged. Just compare them to what Pontiac and Chevy has now......

Besides, it's not like you can go out and buy a Holden, so I wouldn't considered rebadged anyway.

Holden seems like the only part of GM that seems to be doing the product right anyway.

The dark red one without the wing is flat-out gorgeous... wow... so stunning. IF GMNA infuses as much style and bespoke brand DNA into our Zetas... the competition may as well go home. Period.

The Signature would make a fantastic Lucerne... picture it with a Velite grille, portholes, and different taillight lenses. Even the rims would work as a Buick. :)

Blu, totally agree with you about the Signature....when I saw it, I thought modern day Buick....it's a zillion light years ahead in the coolness factor than the LaCrosse/Lucerne cars from yesteryear.

You do know it's shorter than a LaCrosse by a big margin (and consequently has a smaller trunk)? BTW, those 307 kW and 550 Nm are DIN figures—expect this to be exactly the same tune as the Corvette or the CTS-V.

Because these are very expensive tuner cars, costing more than twice as much as a base Commodore V6 (around A$72K or US$54K). One of thse will set you back more than a CTS-V with the same engine and transmission. Of course in Australia this is exacty the same price as a 300C SRT8, and less than a V6 Saab 9-3, 325i or C 230. It's 5 inches shorter than the LaCrosse but has 17.5 cubic feet of trunk versus 16 for the LaCrosse - the trunk is probably wider and higher.

I'm still not sure why Americans think of the Commodore as a small car. Lets look at some figures here...

LaCrosse Commodore

Width 73" 75"

Length 198" 193"

Shoulder Room 57" 59"

Legs Fr/Rear 42/38 42/39

As you can see the Commodore would normally be seen as a direct competitor or possibly seen as a bigger car.

Yes. A standard V8 Statesman will set you back around US$47K. The Caprice increases that by another US$5K, and the HSV version will add another US$10-15K.

It's just a different way of measuring the trunk volume. You can't just convert from Liters to cubic feet. Comparing apples to apples is easier if you look at models for which we can find true figures for both methods (some manufacturers simply convert the VDA standard from liters to cu-ft rather than use the SAE standard).

Commodore 496 L

Camry..........503 L .. 15 cu-ft

E500.............540 L .. 15.9 cu-ft

A6................546 L .. 15.9 cu-ft

LaCrosse..................16 cu-ft

Thus you can see the LaCrosse has a much bigger trunk than the Commodore, due to its greater length. The shorter Chinese LaCrosse (still 4" longer than the Commodore) has only a 510 L trunk. Broadly speaking the Commodore and LaCrosse would be in the same class though (upper midsize sedan), despite the exaggerated length of the LaCrosse.

Thanks. I guess at the end of the day most drivers would live with 50L less if the boot/trunk shape was more useable though. The LaCrosse looks to have a very low trunklid. I'm sure that reverse parking with an extra 5 inches of trunk would not be fun.

For those with a trunk fetish in Australia the Statesman/Caprice is 535L. Again you can see here that GM has chosen to use the extra wheelbase for interior room rather than going overboard on trunk space. The rear legroom in these models is 43 inches versus 39 for the Commodore. The car length in this model is 5inches longer than the LaCrosse which you definitely don't want to reverse park.

By comparison the Statesman/Caprice is nearly 5inches longer than a 7series BMW, same shoulder room, 35L more trunk space, heaps more legroom in front and rear (only 37.2 in the rear of a 7-series!).

Even with Australia's inflated car prices the Caprice would come into the US at about $55k compared to $72K for the 750. If Holden were making US quantities then this price would be significantly less.

But shorter than a 750Li, by far the most popular model in the US. Mercedes doesn't even sell the swb S-Class in the US market. The Statesman and Lucerne (now very similar in size) are in the same size class (if not price) as the slightly larger 750iL, A8L, S 550L and XJ8-L, and offer comparable interior room. The LS460L is almost as big, but still can't match the shoulder and hip room of its European rivals.
