High commendation for the Corsa: It was named "Top Car 2007" by more than 140 German, Austrian and Swiss motor journalists in the "City" category, ahead of renowned competitors like VW Polo and Mini Cooper.

"We are very honored to win this award because the Corsa was elected by car experts. The Corsa didn't just convince the journalists from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Earlier it already won the "Car of the Year" award in Denmark and ranked second in the European "Car of the Year" election. Our customers also like the Corsa very much: We received as many as 150,000 orders, more than 50 percent over of our forecast."

Beside the award-winning Corsa, the GT ("Fun" category), Antara ("Offroad") and the integrated Flex-Fix carrier ("Innovation") also ranked high in their respective category.

Yep. Lutz said it would have taken 3 years to modify this design to meet US requirements, so they might as well just wait for the next gen.

Honda did the Fit anyway, much futher into the model cycle (it was introduced in, ahem, 2001). To make it meet US regs they had to stretch the bumpers a total of 6", mostly at the front. The hood and front light clusters have been stretched as well to make it look less apparent. The first-gen M45 had to have its bumpers stretched about 6" as well. By contrast the Yaris hatch, designed from the outset for US sale is only 2.4" longer, and the Yaris sedan is no larger at all.

What would GM have to do to meet US requirements? The Corsa already got a 5-star EuroNCAP rating... I'm assuming bumper length, gas tank placement, side reflectors, etc, are all US technicalities.

You actually are not allowed to die in a motor vehicle in the US! :duh:

Well... Yeah, that's pretty much what NHTSA is going for.
