... and you thought GM had some bad crash test results?

That's one hell of a crumple zone...the entire cab just disappears! o_O

I get it...I's a magic trick! Now you see the cab now you don't! :P

What a great clip.

That is amazing.

Fold and Stow Cab - a VW design first.

Makes parking in tight spaces a breeze...except only 2 wheels will actually be usable.

It's amazing how far all cars have come since the '80s.

But then again the test of the VW Beetle (classic) versus a "modern" Golf

proves just how futile progress is at times.

In any case the VW microbus was an ancient & unsafe design from the

get-go in the 1960s.... the closest thing to it would be a Toyota

Wunderwagon....

In sad news today, six people were killed when a VW Bus crashed into a concrete wall. The only survivors were the Mexican stowaways beneath the cargo canopy.

Yes, it doesn't seem that much (if any) progress was made from the 50s - 80s. It's only since the 80s and only really since the mid 90s that we've made real progress.

Wild...no structural integrity at all..that video must have inspired GM with to make the Astro and U-vans so collapsible.

Actually the Astro isn't that bad of a design. I've seen several badly wrecked ones in salvage yards and they ain't anywhere in the same leauge as that VW.

U-vans, yes.

Astros, no.

My buddy' old 91 was hit by an f-250, then a s-10, and he walked away from the accident....

They hold up well, with the only downside being if they are t-boned on the sliding door.....

And I have seen some mangled Astros too...
