A Chevrolet Volt is under suspicion as the cause of a garage fire in Barkhamsted, Connecticut. The fire which engulfed a garage took 50 firefighters to put out.

"I walked outside and looked in the garage door and it was flaming. I grabbed a pocketbook so I'd have a cellphone and a driver's license and a jacket and a pair of slacks. I had no shoes, my feet were freezing," said Dee Connors, owner.

Investigators are now working on what caused the fire. Along with the Volt, investigators are also looking at the other electric vehicle in the garage and the 40-year old wiring in the house. GM said in a official statement they will be cooperating with the investigation.

I find it interesting that in the Internet age, we generally get the opportunity to see the first car of a particular type that goes to the junkyard. Same thing happened with the new Camaro... days later, the first totaled Camaro was all over the nets.

I find it even more interesting that based on the comments on other websites about this article, all the people who were nuclear engineers three weeks ago are all electrical engineers now.

It was not so much the Volt but the Dollar Store extention cord he used.

I can see issues with the way people wire their grages being an issues in some cases in the future.

I hope it was not the Volt fault here as GM does not need this to happen.

Has there been any major update, besides GM's 'conclusion' that the Volt was not at fault? The owner is in agreement too, but I'm still awaiting a final verdict from the professionals.

This is one GM needs control the media on as even if they are not at fault bad press can still hurt them. Just look at all the damage Audi went through even though they were cleared. The Even cleared bad press here could really effect the future of all GM EV vehicles.

Too often they report the happening but never report the findings that clear the company or person in question.
