Hyundai: once considered the bad joke of the automotive world is now one of the big players, taking names and kicking some serious a** with their lineup,and it doesn't look like they're going to stop.

This week, the company released pricing for the two newest members of the Elantra lineup, the GT and Coupe.

Starting with the Elantra GT, the new five-door hatchback starts at $18,395 (excluding a $775 destination charge) for a six-speed manual transmission. The six-speed automatic transmission model starts at $19,395.

For the price, the Elantra GT comes well equipped. Standard equipment includes heated power side mirrors, heated front seats, 16-inch alloy wheels, air-conditioned glove box, driver's knee airbag, and an adaptable steering system, which tunes the steering feel to three modes: Comfort, Normal and Sport.

Two option packages are available for the Elantra GT. The Style Package adds a panoramic sunroof, sport-tuned suspension, and leather upholstery. A Tech Package features a backup camera, automatic headlamps and a touch-screen navigation system.

How Much For The Elantra Coupe?


As for the Elantra Coupe, prices start $17,445 (excluding a $775 destination charge) for the base GS six-speed manual coupe. An GS automatic coupe starts at $18,445.

With the GS model, you get air conditioning, heated seats, a stereo system with satellite radio and steering wheel audio controls, Bluetooth, keyless entry, 16-inch alloys, and a 1.8L four cylinder delivering 148 HP.

If you want a bit more sport in your Elantra coupe, you'll need to step up to the SE model which begins at $19,745 for a six-speed manual. The SE gives you sport-tuned suspension, 17-inch alloys, leather, a sunroof, and other niceties.

A tech package which includes navigation and a better audio system is available on the SE, but only on the SE automatic which begins at $20,745.

The fun-to-drive, functional, five-door compact hatchback will have a starting price of $18,395 and be extraordinarily well-equipped. At $18,395 shoppers will discover 39 highway miles per gallon, more interior space than Ford Focus, Mazda3 and Volkswagen Golf and Hyundai's Driver Selectable Steering Mode. The 2013 Elantra GT will begin arriving in dealerships later this month.

The new Elantra GT represents the evolution of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design language. Elantra GT's design gives it a slippery 0.30 coefficient of drag. Up front, Hyundai's signature hexagonal grille with chrome accents flows into the hood. The bodyside graphic features a chrome beltline molding to keep up with the sleek character lines. Sharp projection headlamps, fog lights and available panoramic sunroof and 17-inch alloy wheels with chrome spears complete the modern design.

Maximizing interior volume and delighting customers with various seating layouts are hallmarks of Hyundai engineering and translate into more cabin room, cargo space and versatility. The Elantra GT features seating layouts that can comfortably seat five people or accommodate four passengers, plus long items like golf clubs or snowboards. Fold all of the back seats to get CUV-sized cargo space. These options allow customers to discover that Elantra GT has more interior volume than Matrix, Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf and even more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke crossover, thanks to split-fold-down rear seats and rear seat cushions than can flip upward. Like its stablemate the Elantra Coupe, heated front seats are standard.

With gas prices exceeding $4 per gallon in many areas of the U.S., compact car buyers are downsizing for better fuel efficiency, but these buyers expect premium features. The Elantra GT offers the following optional premium features: power driver's seat including power lumbar support, dual automatic temperature control with clean air ionizer and auto defog system, leather seating surfaces, navigation with hidden rearview camera and proximity key with push button start. Elantra GT comes in three flavors, mirroring the packaging simplicity of the popular Hyundai Veloster: an extremely well-equipped base model, a Style package offering panoramic sunroof, upgraded wheels, and more, and a Tech package offering navigation system and more.

Elantra GT is tuned for added feel, responsiveness and control, while the Elantra sedan is tuned for comfort. Modifications to the GT include higher rear spring rates, a V-Beam rear suspension design with an integrated stabilizer bar and Sachs dampers for improved body motion control. These changes create driving dynamics which are sporty and comfortable. In addition, two suspension packages were developed to optimize tuning for the two different tire sizes. The Elantra GT's Style package offers a sportier suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tire.

Behind the wheel, drivers benefit from Hyundai's all-new Driver Selectable Steering Mode. With three operating modes to select – Comfort, Normal and Sport – this innovative system allows drivers to adapt Elantra GT steering characteristics to varying driving preferences and road conditions any time they choose. Comfort level offers the greatest ease of steering and is ideal for city and parking environments. Sport is optimized for higher-speed highways or winding roads, while Normal is ideal for a mix of driving conditions. The Driver Selectable Steering Mode not only adjusts power assistance levels in each mode, but also on-center build-up feel and steering build-up curves throughout the steering range, for a very natural, progressive feel.

The 2013 Elantra GT delivers an EPA estimated 39 mpg highway with either a six speed manual or automatic transmission. Under the hood, Elantra GT is powered by a 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque, the same as found in the Elantra sedan. The engine is mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with SHIFTRONIC®. Elantra GT is available as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) or Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV). The PZEV Elantra GT is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles, helping Hyundai meet its environmental commitments.

Elantra Coupe also has a remarkable content advantage over Civic Coupe. For example, Elantra comes standard with a six-speed transmission and four-wheel disc brakes, features not found on any Civic Coupe. The two-door sport coupe model of the Elantra sedan will attract even more buyers to the Elantra line-up, further expanding its appeal to savvy consumers. It offers many of the same attributes that made the sedan version a sales success, while broadening its market reach to youthful, sporty buyers willing to forgo a bit of four-door versatility for coupe design appeal. The 2013 Elantra Coupe marks the continuing evolution of Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design theme with sporty design language, while assuming a compact coupe segment leadership position with an eco-efficient powertrain, generous convenience features, exceptional roominess and abundant safety features.

The Elantra Coupe is fitted with a McPherson strut front suspension, with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is a lightweight V-beam design with an integrated 22 mm stabilizer bar for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers for ride comfort and control. A substantial 22.0-mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll and turn-in response when cornering. Steering knuckle design and damper tuning have all been recalibrated for sportier handling and steering responsiveness compared with Elantra sedan. In addition, Elantra Coupe offers a sportier SE model suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tire.

Boy they are really pushing hard to give you high level features at entry level prices. Only a few years ago you would not find heated seats on any low end car. Now everyone feels they have to have them.

Kids today have no Idea what it was like growing up and sitting on a cold vinyl seat. Using your own body heat to warm the seat on a winters day.

That coupe is nice, man. So glad to see it.

The GT will not match the Touring, it's a different animal. Touring people will be disappointed... yet another wagon gone.

      Albert Biermann, head of the N sub-brand tells Auto Express that he has asked engineers to begin work on a test mule. Biermann also revealed what engine could be under the hood, a turbocharged 2.0L four from the i30 N.
      “I’ve told them [the engineers] to build the car and we’ll see what happens with getting it approved. It has to be the i30 N powertrain, really. Of course, we can give Kona different specifications on suspension and steering, although there are some common components we can use in that area as well, because it’ll be front-wheel drive, like the i30 N. But we already know that it has to be that car’s engine and gearbox for the Kona N, yes,” said Biermann.
      Emphasis mine. Hyundai's top brass needs to give the green light to make the Kona N a reality. We're assuming by building a test mule, it may give N some leverage to possibly make it into a production model.
      Auto Express says that the Kona N would use the 250 horsepower variant of the turbo-four, and not the 271 horsepower version available with an optional Performance Pack.

      In the coming weeks, Hyundai dealers will be getting their first batch of the 2019 Veloster and Veloster Turbo models. Before then, Hyundai has revealed the pricing for their polarizing three-door coupe.
      The base Veloster will kick off at $19,385 (includes an $885 destination charge) and nets you a 2.0L four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder producing 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. This will come paired with a six-speed manual, with a six-speed automatic adds a $1,000. There is a decent amount of equipment such as automatic emergency braking, heated side mirrors, lane keep assist, and a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Premium package that offers automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, heated seats, and an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation adds $3,250 for the Veloster equipped with the automatic.
      Next up is the Veloster Turbo R-Spec that swaps the 2.0L for the turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder producing 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual. This gets a unique interior, LED headlights, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires. A dual-clutch transmission is available for an additional $2,500 and includes automatic climate control and heated seats.
      Topping the lineup is the Turbo Ultimate beginning at either $27,535 (manual) or $29,035 (DCT). The Ultimate gets adaptive cruise control (DCT only), head-up display, 8-inch infotainment system with navigation, and pedestrian detection.
      Those hoping to learn about pricing for the Veloster N will need to wait a bit longer.

The fresh design was a collaborative effort of Hyundai designers from Seoul, South Korea and the U.S. design center in Irvine, California. The new Veloster features a comprehensive exterior and interior redesign, powertrain enhancements, and a bevy of new and improved infotainment and connectivity features. The 2019 Veloster began production in March 2018 in Ulsan, Korea, with U.S. market availability in the second quarter of 2018.
      “Our new 2019 Veloster represents an even more compelling offering for young and young-at-heart automotive enthusiasts with more expressive design, involving dynamics and cutting-edge infotainment features,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president of Product, Corporate and Digital Planning at Hyundai Motor America. “When combined with Hyundai’s outstanding value and efficiency, the new Veloster is sure to attract a progressive new group of enthusiast buyers.”
      ALL-NEW DESIGN
      The Veloster merges the design appeal of a sport coupe with the versatility of an additional passenger side rear door in an asymmetrical two-plus-one configuration for easier rear-seat access. From the front, available LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights flank a striking new grille design. Functional air curtains add both a visual design cue and an active aerodynamic function. Hyundai’s signature cascade grille shape has morphed into a strong, three-dimensional design that sets the sport coupe apart.
      Much of the redesign is derived from enhanced proportions and volume; the new shape clearly conveys focused dynamic performance, even standing still. Its stance is more muscular, with higher-volume fenders and wheel arches for a more planted appearance. The cowl point and A-pillar are further rearward and now connect the hood line and belt line into an integrated, powerful gesture. Available 18-inch alloy wheels aggressively fill the wheelhouse openings. Further, the roofline has been lowered for a unique profile and a distinctive coupe-inspired essence. The fender line is also more coupe-like, and the rear now has a more aggressive integrated diffuser design. Available LED taillights help complete the rear view with a high-tech appearance.
      Also available is a full darkened roof treatment for a high-contrast performance appearance. Veloster’s dynamic rear design has a distinctive glass hatch and center-fascia chrome exhaust tips, with a single outlet for the 2.0-liter model and dual-outlets for Turbo and R-Spec models.
      INTERIOR
      The asymmetrical design carries through to the interior, with a driver-focused interior layout and on the Turbo Ultimate, a contrasting color environment that visually separates the driving cockpit. Each trim level has unique colors, materials, and accents, further differentiating each model with varying hues and textures.
      In addition to these new colors and textures, the new Veloster also offers generous rear cargo capacity, with 19.9 cubic feet of interior volume behind the 2nd row seat, more than Mini Cooper, Mini Clubman and VW Beetle.
      2.0-LITER NU ENGINE 
      The Veloster 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine uses the Atkinson-cycle for superior efficiency and lower emissions. The 2.0-liter engine delivers a peak output of 147 horsepower at 6,200 rpm (estimated) and maximum torque of 132 lb.-ft. at 4,500 rpm (estimated). The Nu 2.0-liter also features Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing, an electronic throttle control, variable induction and innovative anti-friction coatings. The 2.0-liter engine is coupled with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed electronically-controlled automatic transmission.       GAMMA 1.6-LITER TURBOCHARGED ENGINE

Further, there is an over-boost function that raises peak torque output to 202 lb.-ft. under maximum acceleration.       Veloster Turbo is paired with a standard six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). For R-Spec manual transmission models, a B&M Racing® sport shifter will also be applied (later availability). Both transmissions were developed in-house by Hyundai. TVC uses wheel-speed sensors coupled with ESC algorithms to apply precise braking force to the inside front wheel during spirited cornering. This active braking redirects power to the outside front wheel in the turn, reducing wheelspin for enhanced cornering grip and corner-exit acceleration.       DCT TRANSMISSION
      Hyundai’s EcoShift DCT takes the benefits of a manual transmission, such as low fuel consumption, and blends these with automatic transmission benefits, such as high comfort levels and driving ease. In addition, the DCT enables direct connection for high efficiency and uninterrupted torque transfer during shifts. The DCT also incorporates Hyundai’s Hillstart Assist Control (HAC), designed to minimize rolling backwards on steep ascents.

The rear suspension is a lightweight independent multi-link design with a 19-mm stabilizer bar to further control body roll. The rear suspension uses gas-pressurized shock absorbers for ride comfort with excellent control. Veloster features electric power steering that adjusts assistance to changing driving conditions while improving fuel economy over a conventional steering system. When equipped with the six-speed manual transmission, available 18-inch alloy wheels are fitted with Michelin® Pilot Sport 4 summer tires.
      All Veloster models also use aluminum front steering knuckles for a total of 10.6 lbs. of reduced unsprung mass at the front suspension compared with the previous generation. In addition, the rear suspension carrier is aluminum, resulting in an 8.4 lb. reduction of unsprung mass for the rear suspension compared with the previous generation.
      ADVANCED STANDARD SAFETY
      2019 Veloster includes standard Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), which uses the car’s front-facing camera to detect an imminent collision and avoid impact or minimize damage by braking autonomously. Three additional systems also utilize the front-view camera to boost safety and convenience: Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), High Beam Assist (HBA) for the available LED headlights, and Driver Attention Warning (DAW). Lane Keep Assist is a standard safety feature for 2019 Veloster.
      By sensing road markings, LKA helps to prevent accidental lane departure by helping to steer the vehicle as required. HBA automatically controls the high beam headlights by dimming and illuminating them automatically as needed with approaching traffic, while the Driver Attention Warning system monitors a spectrum of driver-related characteristics to detect driver fatigue or careless driving.
      Veloster radar systems also assist with the available Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW) to detect approaching vehicles from the rear that may be obscured from view and alert the driver of their presence during lane changes. The Rear Cross-Traffic Collison Warning (RCCW) detects when another vehicle may have entered the car’s rearward path, such as when backing out of a parking spot, and provides a driver alert.       In the coming weeks, Hyundai dealers will be getting their first batch of the 2019 Veloster and Veloster Turbo models. Before then, Hyundai has revealed the pricing for their polarizing three-door coupe.
      The base Veloster will kick off at $19,385 (includes an $885 destination charge) and nets you a 2.0L four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder producing 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. This will come paired with a six-speed manual, with a six-speed automatic adds a $1,000. There is a decent amount of equipment such as automatic emergency braking, heated side mirrors, lane keep assist, and a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A Premium package that offers automatic climate control, blind spot monitoring, heated seats, and an 8-inch infotainment system with navigation adds $3,250 for the Veloster equipped with the automatic.
      Next up is the Veloster Turbo R-Spec that swaps the 2.0L for the turbocharged 1.6L four-cylinder producing 201 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, and a six-speed manual. This gets a unique interior, LED headlights, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 summer tires. A dual-clutch transmission is available for an additional $2,500 and includes automatic climate control and heated seats.
      Topping the lineup is the Turbo Ultimate beginning at either $27,535 (manual) or $29,035 (DCT). The Ultimate gets adaptive cruise control (DCT only), head-up display, 8-inch infotainment system with navigation, and pedestrian detection.
      Those hoping to learn about pricing for the Veloster N will need to wait a bit longer.

      ALL-NEW DESIGN
      The Veloster merges the design appeal of a sport coupe with the versatility of an additional passenger side rear door in an asymmetrical two-plus-one configuration for easier rear-seat access. From the front, available LED headlights and LED Daytime Running Lights flank a striking new grille design. Functional air curtains add both a visual design cue and an active aerodynamic function. Hyundai’s signature cascade grille shape has morphed into a strong, three-dimensional design that sets the sport coupe apart.
      Much of the redesign is derived from enhanced proportions and volume; the new shape clearly conveys focused dynamic performance, even standing still. Its stance is more muscular, with higher-volume fenders and wheel arches for a more planted appearance. The cowl point and A-pillar are further rearward and now connect the hood line and belt line into an integrated, powerful gesture. Available 18-inch alloy wheels aggressively fill the wheelhouse openings. Further, the roofline has been lowered for a unique profile and a distinctive coupe-inspired essence. The fender line is also more coupe-like, and the rear now has a more aggressive integrated diffuser design. Available LED taillights help complete the rear view with a high-tech appearance.

      Ever since Hyundai revealed the Santa Cruz concept back at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, there have been questions whether or not it would make it to production. The last we heard anything about the truck was last August where the home office finally gave the green light to go forward with the project. No time frame was given at the time. 
      Speaking to Motor Trend, Hyundai Motor America's chief operating officer Brian Smith said Santa Cruz will likely arrive in 2020 or so. Smith also revealed that the model would be using the Tuscon's platform.
      “We love it, we talk about it a lot,” said Smith.
      It is unclear whether Hyundai is planning to change up the Santa Cruz's design or not.
      Getting the Santa Cruz from concept to this point has been long and arduous. Then-CEO Dave Zuchowski pushed hard for this model to go into production after it got enough positive feedback. In 2016, Hyundai reportedly gave the ok for the project to go forward and Zuchowski said an official announcement was coming. The plan was to have the Santa Fe launched in 2018 as a 2019 model. But things fell apart only a year later as Zuchowski was shown the door due to falling sales. The champion for the Santa Cruz was lost and the model was up in the air.
      Now, it seems things are back on track.
