Chevrolet News:Spying: Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon Sweating It Out

Its been awhile since we got any new information or spy shots on General Motor's next-generation midsize trucks. However that changed this week as new spy shots came in of the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon doing some hot weather testing.

We knew that our version of the Colorado and Canyon's exterior design would differ from the version sold in the rest of the world. The shots show the front ends of the two trucks taking cues from their bigger brothers with similar grilles and headlight setup.

The spy shots also revealed that one of engines that GM is currently testing is a V6 VVT engine. That means we could be seeing the 3.6L DI V6 under the hood of these trucks. Also on the table are a four-cylinder engine and turbodiesel.

The new Colorado has only been on sale since 2012.

Yes they are taking a long time but next year when it does come out and has a torquey little diesel under the hood that makes it move, all will be forgotten by those that love this high mileage oil burner.

Hopefully they are spending money on the interior also...the current, dated Colorado looks like they budgeted about $10 for the interior--cheap and nasty inside.

By the looks of that engine shroud, it's getting the 4.3 V6. You can tell by the location of the oil fill.

I agree that the current interior is a bit cheap, but then my 72yr old father has one and loves it and thinks it is perfect so it could also be a bit of perspective. The younger groups just have higher expectations and yet with that said, if they are not willing to accept less features / base level auto's will never be in the reach of someone just starting out.

Not every auto needs to have a cadillac interior.

The interiors in these trucks would be ok for a vehicle at under $10k, but for vehicles priced $25k or more they seem way off...the S10 30 years ago had a nicer interior than the gray plastic junk in today's Colorado.

In my truck shopping, I quickly eliminated the Colorado/Canyon twins, but the S-10/Sonoma stayed on the list. The two reasons for nixing the Colorado were the interior (the S-10 is nicer) and serviceability, the Colorado has big issues with brakes and related maintenance.

I'm really excited about this launch. If done right, and by that I mean the GMC looks really good, it may sway me from a Sierra purchase. I miss my '01 GMC Sonoma but need something larger than that and a tad bit bigger than the recent Canyon model. It looks like from the pictures the new Canyon will gain some added space, and it looks like a longer bed will be available too. I'm in no rush for a new truck, though I really want a 2014 Sierra! I can be patient until about this time next year
