So got an email today from the www.government-fleet.com web site about Nissans newest incentive on all 2015 & 2016 Nissan Leafs.

So current commercial fleets and the public get the Governments $7,500 federal rebate. Governments through out the US can get an additional $8,000 rebate for buying and if you are in california and are a government group operating in disadvantaged communities you can apply for a state $10,000 rebate through the public fleet pilot project. So according to the web site you can get a Nissan Leaf for only $11,010.

Amazing way for Nissan to sell their leafs.

Not exactly raking in the profits on these, are they now?

Very true, but they are a cheap ride if you can get someone to buy it for you on a fleet purchase with said discounts. But is the $11K dollar price worth a car that goes about 60-65 miles per charge?

Nisan Leaf range is 80 - 100 miles per charge.

My partner could drive to and from work twice before needing a recharge. I could go four times and I have chargers in my work garage. For a daily commuter with a predictable route, the leaf would make a great second car.

Yeah, my parents could rock one of these. They both work 3-3.25 miles from work. They could drive it all week just to and from work and never even need to charge it. And 100 miles of range really would work for myself 99% of the time. It's that 1% of time that is an issue that we're just so accustomed to not having to deal with it's pretty crazy.

Most households are two car households these days.  My household has more cars than people....  If I didn't have a need for an SUV for my rental properties, I could totally get by with a Leaf for my daily commuting, my '81 Toronado for personal road trips.  When I drive a trip for work, I nearly always take a rental car anyway because I don't want to put miles on my own car even if they are reimbursed.

Yes Nissan says the battery depending on auto use, electronics, etc gets 80 to 100 miles. Sadly in farther north states, 60-65 miles seems to be the average being talked in northern states and Canada. So it really depends on where you are at I think on how many miles you actually get. Rather be conservative than to promise 80 and the car is dead at 69.

For me this would be perfect since I work from home and only travel in a radius of 20 to 30 Miles most of the time. I would need to get a fast-charger though.

Once you treehuggers see what the Bolt can do, you'll leaf Datsun in the dust.

Agreed, the BOLT will destroy and leaf the Datsun, 500 and all other EVs in the dust. :P

Indeed, but in this case, the discussion over the really cheap prices on the Leaf.  If you could really grab one for $11k - $12k, it would make an excellent low cost EV as a second car for most folks who fit this type of commuting profile. The Bolt will cost 3 times that.
