Industry News: Meet the Fisker EMotion

Recommended Posts

Fisker is beginning to drop information on their new vehicle called EMotion along with some clear images of the model.

The design is.. well... out there. The side profile looks be a Karma that has been squished. There are tall wheel wells and deep cuts in the doors. The front end is something - we're going with the policy if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. The vehicle is built out of aluminum and carbon fiber.

Fisker is already making some claims about the EMotion such as the vehicle having "superb rear legroom."

"Fisker has taken advantage of the newly developed electric powertrain layout by pushing the vehicle’s entire interior compartment forward and increasing the wheelbase with distinctively short front and rear overhangs, a layout that increases the interior space," the company said in a statement.

Also, the EMotion will have a range of 400 miles and reach a top speed of 161 mph. The company says this range is due to graphene battery technology developed by Fisker Nanotech and Nanotech Energy Inc. Details about this new battery tech are slim. One more thing, the EMotion will feature autonomous driving technologies.

Fisker will fully unveil the EMotion in mid-2017.

Intersting, funny that they talk about the new battery tech which was released onto the world in 2012.

http://nanotechweb.org/cws/article/tech/48881

Hong Kong is where this idea comes from and clearly it needed time and testing, so maybe they are finally making it work.

In 2013 other scientist found that this had great potential for super capacitors, but more research was needed.

https://www.technologyreview.com/s/521651/graphene-supercapacitors-ready-for-electric-vehicle-energy-storage-say-korean-engineers/

In 2014 Tesla was working on what they hoped would be a 500 mile battery pack based on this tech, but still nothing yet.

http://gas2.org/2014/08/21/tesla-developing-500-mile-graphene-battery/

Companies seem to see a long term use for batteries based on this tech, seems it would allow much smaller, denser and long range power supply.

http://graphenebatteries.no/technology.html

Over all, I could see graphene batteries finally making the EV a long range no fear auto with super fast charging as the batteries unlike regular or NiCad or Li can take super fast rapid charging with no problem.

Gonna have to watch this and see what comes of it.

Further cool info:

USES FOR GRAPHENE

Green technology: Sir Andre and PhD student Lozada-Hidalgo hope that graphene could one day be used in proton-conducting membranes, which are a crucial component of fuel cells, used to power 'green' cars.

They found that graphene membranes could be used to extract hydrogen from the atmosphere, suggesting the possibility of combining them with fuel cells to make mobile electric generators powered just by tiny amounts of hydrogen in the air.

Medicine: Experts say that graphene could be used as a vehicle for delivering drugs to specific sites in the body, which could one day mean new treatments for people with brain conditions, for example.

Transport: Graphene’s strength and lightness makes it an ideal material to incorporate into cars and aeroplanes in a bid to make them safer and more fuel efficient.

Thin coatings: The thin and strong material could also be used to make corrosion-proof coatings, packaging and even super-thin condoms

Electronics: The material conducts electricity efficiently so it could be used to make new types of smartphones and as well as flexible wearable technology.

Purifying water: Scientists are working on using the material as a membrane to separate liquids, so it could one day be used to purify water in areas of the world that do not have access to the essential liquid.

Samsung seems to think by 2019 they can use Graphene to double if not triple their battery density for super long life on electronic appliances like smartphones.

The EV startup Fisker will be officially debuting their Ocean EV on January 4th at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.  Fisker has been teasing images of the Ocean for months.
Fisker has also announced that they will be partnering with Electrify America, the charging network born from the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal.  Electrify America is building out a network of 350 kW rapid chargers to be coming online in 45 states by December 2021.  Fisker says that when using those 350 kW rapid chargers, the Ocean will be able to gain 200 miles of range in at little as 30 minutes. The Electrify America network will automatically recognize the Ocean and be set up for automatic payments. Fisker will also be offering a complimentary charging scheme to go with the vehicle.
The Ocean is a direct competitor to the forthcoming Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E. Range is expected to be around 300 miles under ideal conditions from its 80 kWh battery. On the roof is a full-size solar panel that is said to be able to add 1,000 miles of range to the vehicle per year. Fisker is said to be working on solid state battery technology that would increase range to 500 miles and allow for charges in minutes.
Fisker claims the Ocean will be the most sustainable vehicle built with many recycled and vegan materials inside. The Fisker Ocean will be offered primarily through leasing rather than purchasing. Pricing for a lease is expected to start around $379 per month after a deposit of $2,999.  The Ocean is expected to go into production at the end of 2021 with full production commencing in early 2022.

The Aston Martin DBX, the first SUV for the brand, will be debuting on November 20th in Beijing, China. However, some information and pictures have been released early.
The starting price of the DBX in the US will be $189,900.  A lot of money, but from the looks of the interior, it could be money well spent. The interior is draped in high quality leather, suede surfaces, and brushed metal trim.  AM says they spent 6-months just to determine the optimum seating position for 99th percentile male to the 5th percentile female.  This was done to make sure that all of the screens and even the hood are visible without restriction.  The center console is the floating bridge type that allows for storage underneath.
Order books for the  DBX open with the debut on the 20th of November.

It's not possible to message you.  At least, it wasn't possible to do that last summer.  So I'll post it here.  I had a crazy layover back in June at PHL ... for about 8 hours ... and wondered how far into NJ you were from Philly.  What I did is get the PHLash day pass and did the self-guided tour of Center City before heading back to the airport.  I stayed too close to the center because of time. I actually wasted time by going into South Philly.  I wanted to venture out onto the Main Line and see Villanova.  That rail line was included on the pass I bought.  I had to manage my time because of the late afternoon flight to the Coast.  Cheers.
