Industry News: Meet the Fisker EMotion

3 posts in this topic

Fisker is beginning to drop information on their new vehicle called EMotion along with some clear images of the model.

The design is.. well... out there. The side profile looks be a Karma that has been squished. There are tall wheel wells and deep cuts in the doors. The front end is something - we're going with the policy if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. The vehicle is built out of aluminum and carbon fiber.

Fisker is already making some claims about the EMotion such as the vehicle having "superb rear legroom."

"Fisker has taken advantage of the newly developed electric powertrain layout by pushing the vehicle’s entire interior compartment forward and increasing the wheelbase with distinctively short front and rear overhangs, a layout that increases the interior space," the company said in a statement.

Also, the EMotion will have a range of 400 miles and reach a top speed of 161 mph. The company says this range is due to graphene battery technology developed by Fisker Nanotech and Nanotech Energy Inc. Details about this new battery tech are slim. One more thing, the EMotion will feature autonomous driving technologies.

Fisker will fully unveil the EMotion in mid-2017.

Intersting, funny that they talk about the new battery tech which was released onto the world in 2012.

http://nanotechweb.org/cws/article/tech/48881

Hong Kong is where this idea comes from and clearly it needed time and testing, so maybe they are finally making it work.

In 2013 other scientist found that this had great potential for super capacitors, but more research was needed.

https://www.technologyreview.com/s/521651/graphene-supercapacitors-ready-for-electric-vehicle-energy-storage-say-korean-engineers/

In 2014 Tesla was working on what they hoped would be a 500 mile battery pack based on this tech, but still nothing yet.

http://gas2.org/2014/08/21/tesla-developing-500-mile-graphene-battery/

Companies seem to see a long term use for batteries based on this tech, seems it would allow much smaller, denser and long range power supply.

http://graphenebatteries.no/technology.html

Over all, I could see graphene batteries finally making the EV a long range no fear auto with super fast charging as the batteries unlike regular or NiCad or Li can take super fast rapid charging with no problem.

Gonna have to watch this and see what comes of it.

Further cool info:

USES FOR GRAPHENE

Green technology: Sir Andre and PhD student Lozada-Hidalgo hope that graphene could one day be used in proton-conducting membranes, which are a crucial component of fuel cells, used to power 'green' cars.

They found that graphene membranes could be used to extract hydrogen from the atmosphere, suggesting the possibility of combining them with fuel cells to make mobile electric generators powered just by tiny amounts of hydrogen in the air.

Medicine: Experts say that graphene could be used as a vehicle for delivering drugs to specific sites in the body, which could one day mean new treatments for people with brain conditions, for example.

Transport: Graphene’s strength and lightness makes it an ideal material to incorporate into cars and aeroplanes in a bid to make them safer and more fuel efficient.

Thin coatings: The thin and strong material could also be used to make corrosion-proof coatings, packaging and even super-thin condoms

Electronics: The material conducts electricity efficiently so it could be used to make new types of smartphones and as well as flexible wearable technology.

Purifying water: Scientists are working on using the material as a membrane to separate liquids, so it could one day be used to purify water in areas of the world that do not have access to the essential liquid.

Samsung seems to think by 2019 they can use Graphene to double if not triple their battery density for super long life on electronic appliances like smartphones.

Previous Page Next Page Mazda will be showing off two concepts at the Tokyo Motor Show later this month that will show the future of their SkyActiv powertrain and Kodo design language.
Concept one is a preview of next-generation 3 hatchback. We really can't tell much about the design from the teaser photo provided by Mazda, aside from a lowered roofline. This concept will feature Mazda's upcoming SkyActiv-X powertrain, which will be the first mass-produced gas engine that uses compression ignition.
Concept two is what Mazda calls their 'Next-Generation Design Vision'. At first, you might think this is a sleek coupe due to the proportioning of the concept - long front and short rear. But it is a sedan as shown by the door line by the rear fender.
“Our stand this year marks the beginning of a new era for Mazda. We will showcase a concept model with the design and technologies that will define a whole new generation of Mazda cars. Among them is SKYACTIV-X, a gasoline engine that realizes a long-held dream of the global automotive industry,” said Masamichi Kogai, Mazda’s Representative Director, President and CEO.

For some, the announcement made by Ford's Asia Pacific is a dream come true. In a teaser video, a prototype Ranger is seen being put through its paces while undergoing testing in the Australian Outback. Towards the end of the video, the name Ranger Raptor is revealed and will be arriving in Asia Pacific markets next year.
There isn't much to go on in terms of concrete details. It appears the Ranger Raptor will only come in the Double Cab configuration and feature a new grille - possibly the same one as seen on the F-150 Raptor. We're expecting some of the ideas from the F-150 Raptor's suspension will be applied for the smaller Ranger.
Of course, some are asking the question whether or not the Ranger Raptor will come to the U.S. We know that Ford is readying a new Ranger that will debut sometime in the 2019 model year. If Ford was planning on sending Raptor version here, we would expect it to launch a year or two after.

Henrik Fisker to Debut Emotion in August
Henrik Fisker first go at EV's ended up bankrupt and sold to a Chinese company and yet this has not stopped this man from bringing a much more delightful car to the upper wealthy folks in the form of the all new EMotion AWD EV 4 door sedan.
Henrik Fisker originally started out from his own .org web site with drawings and info on how he would make a better EV. You can read the story and get plenty of facts at his initial web site here: http://henrikfisker.org/
Hi Timeline and the auto's that have inspired him is worth looking at. You truly get where he pulled in design language from in the auto's he has driven. Products section shows you just how wide a design effect he has by seeing his cloths, sketchbook, boats, bikes, watches and furniture. They have all played a role in the design of the Emotion.
Fisker has not only played in the EV market as in 2016 he brought to market the bloody fast high performance V10 powered Force 1 V10 car. A street legal race car designed with race car driver Ben Keating.

Fisker is now fully focused on his biggest love the extremely quick EV AWD sedan. Fisker according to various news outlets that cover EV news is supposed to release more details on the EMotion in August this month. Here is what we do know about the lovely EMotion:
800 Volt Electrical System 125 miles of range per 9 minutes of charging 145 kWh battery pack - 400+ miles on a charge built by LG Chem Korea LIDAR full autonomy Fully connected data network All Wheel Drive Solar Panel Roof - allowing recharging, but mostly for running accessories when parked such as AC Gullwing inspired access for front and rear doors Hybrid Shop nationwide network - Press Release Priced from $129,900 not including options - Reservations being taken now, $2,000.
