I have to confess my newly found love for this vehicle. We have on in my auto class that's in terrible condition and I just think it's gorgeous. Here are a few pictures of '68 Torino Fastbacks. they have amazing lines on them.

Meh... I like the 1970 Torino better.

So then you like the bulbous Chevelles too...? Ew.

What Chevelles are those? Well my favorite Chevelles are the 68 and 69...

Exactly.

Here's a '70 Torino Cobra. I know I don't like that year, but damn is it hott...

None of those Ford-division fastbacks top the mighty Mercury Cyclone GT:

I just cannot get into Ford cars of any era past the early '50s. For some reason they come off as bad approximations of GM cars or something to my eye. Poor detailing. The '68 Torino just looks.... blunt to me, like a scrap of 2x4. The '72 is godawful horrible. 'Racy' '72s are like a middle-aged woman with a pink bee-hive wig and layers & layers of makeup: both think they look good but everyone else is laughing in their sleeves at the sight. And I'm fairly certain it's not a bias: I love Ford trucks and pre-52 Fords & Mercs ('63-64 full-size Fords & Mercs aren't bad, either). The only palatable Torino for me is '70.

Seeing those beautiful, racy Mercurys makes me wonder where they lost their way....

Same here. It's sad when people bash Mercury...I mean, they have all reason to now, but Mercurys used to be sporty mid-level vehicles back in the day. I would love to see Ford pump some excitement into Mercury...make it have the sport of Pontiac with the high-tech refinement of Acura. They could have the Messenger as a two-seater and a Mustang-based Cougar. Mercurys should always have more horsepower than Fords with the exception of a few cases like Mustang Cobras, Shelbys, and the GT.

If you can't tell, I have a soft spot for Mercury. :)
