  2. @Drew Dowdell So I was also interested as I remember the Leaded pumps would not fit into the unleaded car gas tanks of the early 80's. Found out in the 90's EPA required changes but a 20 year time frame to make it happen to have Class 8 Commercial Truck pumps with larger nozzle and then a smaller nozzle for passenger cars. Found on a forum that Audi sold up to 2012 a kit that had gloves and a nozzle adapter that would allow the commercial pumps to fill a regular car. Ford also sold a kit like this. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=222514&page=2 Seems even in 2012 many threads on the different size pump nozzles that make fueling for diesel auto's hard. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-614721.html Seems you do need to pay attention for auto diesel pumps versus commercial diesel pumps in the mid west and east coast especially.

  3. Yup, the VOLT is prepackaged, but I guess you could have a Honda Generator in your trunk for the pure EV auto. In regards to an excuse from me over why in 10 to 15 years an EV does not show up will not be coming. The wife is already looking at the Jag E-Pace and once the dealership gets one in stock it could become our first NON-GM auto. I would say in the next 18 to 24 months, a Trigger will be pulled if not sooner. I honestly am really hoping Cadillac would have shown us an EV concept CUV at NY. I Honestly am very disappointed in them not doing this. Yup, a Greyhound EV would be cool and would fit me very comfy! Yup, it is roomy and I do fit in there, but then like Drew, I have a spouse that I also need to keep happy. Happy Wife, Happy Life. The dash was a deal killer. When the wife loves an auto, I can buy and that is important to me, Less headaches for those that have a spouse or partner and like to keep things relaxed.

  4. I truly believe there will be an excuse why not for the next 10-15 years.. 'There's just none that I want.' 'None fill my needs.' Apparently the Bolt does everything PERFECTLY..??‍♂️ I think they have that pre-packaged for you already.

  5. That's actually the only thing that looks wrong about it, to me. I think the rest looks satisfactory for a smaller car. For better or worse, it puts off a little CLA vibe in its overall shape.

  7. *You're I keep checking the Member's Rides section. No change there yet. Please post pics soon. Plus... anxiety over a lack of chargers cannot be separated from range anxiety. It is lack of range, and unpredictable range, that causes the need for easy access to chargers.

  8. I bought these tires for the Saab 9-5 I used to have. They were a great tire. Light years better than the noisy Falken tires that were on it when I bought it. I liked them so much that when it was time to put new tires on the T&C, I switched it over to Conti TrueContact DWS tires. I just replaced two of them tonight after about 30k miles but that was my fault due not fixing the alignment quick enough combined with not rotating them. It wore out the outside tread blocks prematurely. The back tires still have the S even after 30k miles! For those that don't know, Conti embeds a "D", "W" and "S" in the tread blocks with the idea that when the "S" is worn off, the tire is no longer good for snow, the "W", no longer good for Wet and the "D" ... well, its time for new tires.

  9. Harsh winters and lack of interesting winter activities are no doubt part of the rationale..like what is there to do in N. Dakota any time of year? Likewise, there are portions of Canada that are probably high or higher in numbers of binge drinkers...a buddy of mine from Regina, SK once said 'in winter we have hockey, drinking, and fighting'. Even in their late 30s, I was amazed by the alcohol consumption capacity of software engineers from Saskatchewan...you would think they were from Ireland or Scotland.

  11. Still, the point remains that these days diesel is plentiful enough to find that VW, GM, Ford, Ram, BMW, Benz, Audi, Porsche, can all sell a not insignificant number of diesel vehicles.... .....well maybe not VW so much anymore, but that's another story.

  13. Yeah the whole coupe style sedan that's also FWD gives off some odd proportions and angles. Sadly, I don't think they have the balls to make a performance variant. I think almost every enthusiast with GM would have put out a Cruze SS YEARS AGO. They've had fantastic 2.0T's for a decade+ just hanging around waiting for it.

  14. No idea. If it did happen, it was decades ago. I got into cars in the first place when I was 3 and I was fascinated with my grandmothers 78 Olds diesel....it was way cooler than my other grandmother's 79 Rabbit diesel.

  15. That sucks for most enthusiasts who pay attention and don't want to even pay $600 for something like that, let alone even more. If they're packaging it into the starting price it might not look like we're paying for it, but we are.

  16. This is why automatic pedestrian detection is going to become standard across the board. Even if it isn't legislated, the industry is driving there already. Toyota already having it standard across nearly its entire lineup, Mazda makes it a cheap $600 option, HondaSense is standard on Accord and a $1000 option on any CVT equipped Civic or Fit. Standard on EX and higher CRV trims.... It's going to take the same adoption path that airbags took... even if it isn't mandated, the safety scores will be weighted on having the feature or not and no manufacturer will want to be below 5 star ratings.

  17. Remember, @dfelt is so tall he cannot fit in anything that doesn't have a Greyhound painted on the side of it. Range anxiety and charger density are indeed two separate issues. How do I know? Back when I was trying to talk people into Jetta TDIs, the reply was always "But where do you buy diesel?"... after I at them a few minutes.... I would say. "Do you think you could find a station that sells diesel somewhere between here and Philly? Because you could drive to Philly and back on a single tank of diesel." The real answer of course is that most GetGos and Sheetz and Sunocos... our biggest chains in the area, sell diesel. They just never bothered to look. All of that F.U.D. about fueling locations, but range definitely isn't an issue on a Jetta/Passat/Beetle TDI. I do understand range anxiety on an EV with a 150 mile max... but 250 or better like the Bolt or Teslas? Na, doesn't worry me. Edit: That person did end up buying a Jetta TDI and loved it so much, they intended to keep it till the very last day it was eligible for the VW buyback. They racked up huge miles on the car, so the buyback was worth it even though they loved the car so much. I don't know what their intended replacement was.

  18. I would think someone could set up their own mobile charging station for themselves...a Honda or Onan generator that you could tow behind your electric car on a small trailer (or in the bed of a future EV pickup) and run it to charge on the fly...;)

  19. I just had my break-in oil change completed at a little over 1700 miles and finally swapped on the all-season Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 tires that have been sitting in my guest shower for a month (no garage). The factory equipment Bridgestone Potenza RE050A summer tires were sufficiently sporty and handled wet conditions well enough, but were loud with poor ride quality. Living in Maryland, all season tires are essential for daily driver duty because of fairly harsh winters. Price: I don't know how Continental sells some of the best tires on the market for the prices they offer, when other brands easily go for $50-100 more per tire. I got my whole set shipped to my house off TireRack.com for around $850 (Fronts: 245/40R19, Rears: 275/35R19, Y-rated). That price is so good, it makes you second guess the quality, but the online reviews are exceptional. A set of the factory Bridgestones run nearly $1400. Tread life is expected to be around 35k miles, which is pretty great when you consider dollar-per-mile vs the stockers and other summer tires. Performance: I haven't really pushed these tires to the limit, but my initial impressions with some moderately aggressive driving would suggest I haven't lost an appreciable amount of acceleration and handling grip to the stock summer tires. This falls in line with the reviews I read. A short blast from 10-55 mph turning a corner ahead of traffic yielded no break in traction whatsoever. Wet performance is at least as secure as the factory tires, with which I never had issues anyway (because I'm not an idiot pushing a muscle car in the rain). I'll update the thread when I have more time with the new rubber. Ride quality: This is probably the greatest appeal of the tires IMO. Immediately after leaving the shop with the new tires on, I noticed a major improvement in comfort and road noise. I'll stop short of calling the SS a luxury sedan, because it lacks GM's acoustic laminated glass that gives many of their cars that vault-like quiet tuning on the highway, but the car has achieved boulevard cruiser status. Conclusion: Even with my limited experience so far, I highly recommend these tires as a 4-season alternative for any daily-driven performance car. They seem to give fantastic ride quality and noise control without significant sacrifice to performance, and the expected 35k mile treadwear with exceptionally low price is the cherry on top.

  21. That is a very good question as you could almost see it as one. But I think a Cruze with a nose job is right.
