I don't really believe in the drug use studies. I remember taking the "confidential" questionaire back in high school, and I lied on it, as did many other of my peers. We weren't going to admit to anything that, even without being traced to our names, would statistically get back to our high school, leading to a crackdown. I know this: marijuana is as popular as ever, especially for college freshmen, and cocaine use is much higher than it used to be. I also know that adderall and other "concentration" drugs are routinely abused, and people still sell/share painkillers after having their wisdom teeth out.

Well, as a message board and not a blog, I don't know how "journalistic" we will ever be, but that said, it does raise the level of professionalism, at least to an extent. I don't personally feel like it's been a problem on here, but if it's just to be minimized and not banned, that's OK I guess.

I saw that commercial, and it was so over-the-top that I am SURE every 9-year-old could spot it. Just like anti-drug ads, so ridiculous they actually promote the opposite of their content.

According to the 911 call, they said they had a stuck accelerator and bad brakes and were going 100 mph. Shifting into neutral would eliminate the engine throttle from the equation, and the brakes, no matter how bad, would get the car to stop. No, they hadn't. They had just recently picked up the rental car, probably didn't know how to work everything in it very well, and according to local reports had no idea what to do so they called 911. Maybe they "knew" what to do, but didn't know how to actually do it in that car. I highly doubt the engine would explode "Hollywood-style" Sweet, good to know that you are intimately familiar with every single working of every car out there so that you NEVER are unfamiliar with a rental car. I bet you're every travelling companion's dream!

NO! That is NOT AT ALL what you are supposed to do in that situation!!!!!! Ever hear of steering wheel lock? Now you have a speeding missile YOU CANNOT CONTROL! Also, these cars have the push-button ignition, and I don't think they knew how to turn it off. What an intelligent, informed person does in this situation is throw the transmission into neutral and steer to the side of the road/shoulder and apply the brakes. I remember hearing about this, happened down near San Diego. So sad. Damn lucky no one was killed outside of the vehicle either--they crashed at the end of a freeway ramp and it's frankly miraculous a) there wasn't a queue at the light to plow into, and b) no cross-traffic in the way. They literally flew off the T intersection, into some scrub grass so far off the road you couldn't see the car from the road, and promptly burst into flames. Such a tragedy.

Not arguing, just wanting rationale...did I miss something, or why the call to ease off the cursing? Gotta be 13+ to join the site, so I don't think those words are anything new to any of the members. What's the reason? Just asking...

My cursive became legible only to myself around the 6th grade. I then switched to print, and that suits me just fine. I don't know anyone who uses cursive; even my signature is just using block lettering, though it gets serifed and connected because I scribble it out so fast. I do not think I remember how to write a cursive, capital "V" if it is any different from a printed "V," though I just went through the alphabet and know the rest of them still...why, I have no idea.

Put your preconceived notions on hold and try to learn something. Here is how law works: each case is decided on the FACTS of the case. Many cases with similar facts are decided differently, and that is primarily due to differing NUANCES. Let's try and draw some important distinctions: You expect hot coffee to be hot...but do you expect it to be SCALDING? Scalding means capable of causing severe burns requiring SKIN GRAFTS with even brief contact. What about in a sit-down restaurant? You're served soup...of course you expect it to be hot, but you don't expect it to be served straight from a boiling pot without any time to cool because COMMON SENSE dictates that you serve soup AFTER allowing it to cool for a minute. Look at a soup can--almost always says "Let cool for 1-2 minutes prior to serving." Did you mother serve casseroles straight out of the oven while they were still bubbling? Of course not! No one puts a plate of food in front of a family without letting it cool for a minute or two because it's COMMON SENSE to avoid potentially injurous situations for your spouse and children. This is why McDonald's was negligent--they served their coffee EXCEPTIONALLY hot--hotter than anyone else did at the time, UNEXPECTEDLY HOT, and they failed to warn their customers about it in a manner that was deemed adequate by a court and a jury. Now you cannot miss the "Caution: HOT!" labels, whereas before there was an approximately size 3 font around the bottom of the cup.

Yes, which is why she was 20% at fault. McDonald's wasn't serving their coffee any cooler for dine-in sales, and clearly that's intended for immediate consumption. If you're serving product so hot that any spill whatsoever results in a skin graft, it seems just a little excessive to me.

In your mind, only.

It depends greatly on what the hell you're talking about, and past behavior. I give second chances until it becomes apparent that there is a pattern of behavior afoot. Of course, it takes a while for me to trust someone to begin with, so most people get weeded out early.

Wow, I looked up the penal code, and I'm left wondering why exactly the CA laws evolved into what they are. You're right, but that is highly unusual.

Really? So a man can rape a woman anally and it isn't rape? Yeah, I don't think so. Rape is usually statutorily defined along the lines of forced insertion of an object into another's orifice without consent.
-
Chris, don't be a fool. The McDonald's coffee case was won by the plaintiff because McDonald's was behaving recklessly with their serving temperatures. Do some basic research on this case before you trot it out as an example of a frivolous lawsuit because anyone who DOES know about this case will immediately discount you as talking out of your ass. http://www.caoc.com/CA/index.cfm?event=showPage&pg=facts

I tip depending on service rendered, starting at 10% as a base, going up or down as necessary.

This reminds me of the CNN story from Georgia where a man warned a woman to shut her screaming kid up or else he would, and when she failed, he slapped the child numerous times. That said, got the kid shut up.

One must-do mod from what I've heard is to switch out the HVAC control unit for the one in the Roadmaster...apparently the Roadmaster's unit has much greater functionality that the Caddy engineers removed in the Fleetwood's unit for the sake of "interface simplicity" though the two units are completely swappable. -
Yes, no milk--that's for scrambled eggs, not an omelette. There are a variety of ways to make them, but I recommend adding the filling/topping fairly soon after placing on the skillet (after the bottom has started to congeal) so that everything is somewhat distributed evenly. Here's a good video:

What? Every "Russian" dressing I've had has been very similar to Thousand Island...so not weird at all to me.

Mayonnaise or Thousand Island. God I love mayo...

Yeah, this is why you don't let other people use your personal computer without your being present. You have at least one trojan horse-type virus, so you have your work cut out for you to rid it from your computer. Best start now.

Psh whatever Bob, you keep it interesting around here.

Fact is, one conveys a lot about their personality/character by their (lack of) personal grooming habits and how much they care about their appearance. Many, many, many studies show a link between sloppy appearances and irresponsible life decisions. People who "just don't care" how they look to the world clothing-wise often "just don't care" behavior-wise, and often conduct themselves unnaceptably. Watch a few episodes of Judge Judy for a non-time-consuming anecdotal way of observing this.

HAHA!! That would have been the best ribbon-cutting ceremony ever.
