  1. MPower, I have no problem with you expressing you opinion so vividly. I welcome all who want to share their passion and respect each other here. I just have a difference of opinion in regards to reving, HP and Torque. I understand the rev thing as I have two Yamaha Wave Runners SVHO that are a blast to run though I do find it crazy that I have to rev to 12,000 RPM to go 65MPH on the water. I have seen plenty of quality engines in boats that only have to rev to 4k to 5k RPM to go just as fast. Torque = Motion HP = Sustaining that Motion Without proper Torque to get moving it does not matter how much HP you have if you cannot get moving quickly, but like I said, having driven my share of Italin auto's I also respect people who like to rev the engine and hear it before actually moving. In response to your OHV versus DOHC V8's, I am NOT a fan of DOHC engines in any size. They are Bloated Fat Pigs that make HP with little Torque. Did Cadillac build a DOHC engine? Yes the Northstar and while a nice engine it was far heavier than needed and no real gains over a quality built DI Pushrod V8. Plenty of Evidence has been given to show that we do not have to build Bloated Fat 4, 6, 8 or any size engines and Turbo's have their pro's and con's. Dwightlooi who started this thread has intelligently shown that we can achieve all the same things in traditional Pushrod engines, yet marketing has twisted the public's perception as such, DOHC Turbo engines will become more common, but not because they are a superior engine. IMHO Hope you all have a great weekend. No problem, thank you for checking with me.
  2. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com Robotic Charger for Tesla August 6th, Tesla quietly posted to You Tube the following video. The goal is to eventually have self plug in chargers at your home so when you drive into the garage or where ever you park, this would automatically move and plug in your car to recharge it. It is pretty amazing to watch.
  3. Did you just say it aint the torque that gives us the dopamine surplus we crave when driving? Well...I could see by your style of driving enthusiasm....that may be true. But...Im a muscle car guy...and what you just said sir, couldnt be farther from the truth....for me at least... So...instead of judging somebody's taste in style of cars...one could have an open mind instead. Because...I could easily say this: Anyone who has ever driven a real muscle car...(and then I could go on a similar rant like yours defending and praising everything that makes muscle cars great while using examples of how a pushrod V8 is the best...yada yada yada...and using GM's vehicles...Corvettes, Camaros, Cadillac V Series and and V8s as well asHemi Hellcats...yes...supercharged as proof....) But you see...all that you said is just subjective BS... What I do see though...is your love for V8s...DOHC or pushrods... What I do see is your love for performance cars... So...why must you push your philosophy and denounce another? Ill never get that from people... Agreed and Since F1 cars are not street legal nor can they really do real world driving duties, I will take a V8 with a Flat Torque curve and HP equal to Torque. Without the Torque you will never have the push in the gut feel off the line nor that same feel when you are doing 60, 70 or more and stomp it to go even faster. Having driven a number of Italian sports cars, they are nice but a very different feel compared to a traditional USA Muscle Car. Both have their place but I have to agree with 442 that it is and always will be subjective to each individual. Love of V8's CHECK Love of Performance Auto's CHECK For me give me a proper big block with 500 hp 500 ft lbs of torque and I will be happy. Marketing has totally screwed up people to think that only HP counts, without Torque in the right places all that HP is a waste of fuel. In regards to the Germans, glad you like to send your hard earned money to Germany, I will stay with supporting my fellow American keeping my profits here and buying the quality American Auto's that is way better than those that love their asian / european auto's know about and much cheaper to repair, maintain and drive. Honestly, it amazes me how many people forget that when America was building the worlds best cars, Asia and Europe were trash, and in the late 70's to early 90's is all people here think about in regards to garbage american auto's and yet there were many awesome cars and trucks still built then. Did the Asians bring 100K mile tune ups and pretty much trouble free driving for the 100K miles? YES, US was still stuck on 30K tune ups and many have proven to be LAZY about taking care of their ride so then the auto runs worse and they can only say nasty things about US auto's, but there is plenty of dirt to share as every auto maker has built their fair share of garbage.
  4. I would stick with the BFGoodrich All Terrain, far superior tire over the Wrangler. It's amazing how much different and rugged the truck looks with just the A/T tires. But yet, from what I've read(I read quite a bit on tires, actually - last job was a service tech changing oil, tires, light builbs, batteries..etc.) the BFG All-Terrain T/O are about the best you can get for this look AND off road performance. But if it were my truck and I know I won't be doing any serious venturing off-road I'd go with something more like the BFG Rugged Terrain T/A ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=Rugged+Terrain+T%2FA ). It still has a good ruged look but it isn't really agessive. I wouldn't want to sacrifice much on-road performance for looks, just not worth it. I can understand that but the Terrain KO are great, not really noisy and I usually get between 80-100K miles on a set. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=All-Terrain+T%2FA+KO Very impressive that you score 80-100k on a set of those. Very Very impressive. What did/do you have them on? See if I were to put a set on a hypothetical truck that I don't own I would be coming from cars/suv where even a small amount of tire noise would be annoying. So, baby steps it is. lol I have these tires on my 1994 Suburban, 1998 Dakota, 1999 Durango currently, they rock and keep on going. I have on my 2008 Trailblazer SS AWD the Bridgestone Duelers as well as on my 2006 Escalade ESV since these are low profile. Both tires rock for trucks and suvs, but I do like the look of the BF Goodrich tire best.
  5. I hadn't heard of it before (I was dealing with a family medical issue during SEMA last year)... but it was a SEMA concept... i think they should build it. At least we know a 3rd gen avalanche would have looked pretty darned good. X10000 Lets not forget that as a Chevy Avalache and an Escalade EXT they would have sold another 50K units or so if memory serves me right.

  7. Agree they are both lovely packages, the TrailBoss edition will be wicked in the Special Green Paint job. I still in the Z71 they need to dump the stupid plastic airdam as it is an offroad truck.
  8. Future will be cars like the VOLT and BOLT as the Gov pushes to do away with Petrol auto's. I saw a VOLT gen 1 that had the generator motor converted to run CNG, so pretty clean for an alternative Hybrid.
  9. G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - www.CheersandGears.com According to the Today show this morning, Volkswagen has for the first 6 months of the 2015 year taken over Toyota and pushed GM to 3rd in worldwide sales. http://www.today.com/video/volkswagen-overtakes-toyota-in-worldwide-sales-493330499874 With that then VW follows it up with the normal financial reporting of earnings up 18% for the first 6 months, revenue grew 10.3% to $52.74 billion for the first half. This is on top of VW saying over all deliveries will be flat in 2015 compared to 2014 but due to efficiency and currency translations profits will grow. Yet with this positive info, VW stock is down 30% for the year. http://news.investors.com/business/072915-763993-volkswagen-q2-beats-forecasts-lackluster-sales.htm The story goes on to report that VW sold 5.04 million autos in the world, Toyota sold 5.02 million and GM was just a distant 3rd in global sales. Guess people mostly like bland boring auto design. Sad
  10. Would be awesome to have it with a decent turbo engine and E-Boost engine to really kick some ass. Though I bet they will ignore other options to making the auto a hoot to drive.
  11. Wonder if this is so they do not have to pay Google or Apple for their nav systems.
  12. Love this combined format for looking at all the sales numbers. Awesome job guys! Some big gains that make me think next year we will see more down then up for sales figures. The US being in a DEPRESSION from 2007 to 2013 really hurt and made people hold off on sales. I see allot of people making up by buying new auto's based on these sales gains. Very interesting. Wonder what excuse BMW & MB has for negative sales? Maserati makes sense as I doubt rich people like to go to a store that also is selling Fiats. Having them side by side I think is stupid, why have 100K luxury car next to a 10K eco car. The Kirkland Fiat / Maserati dealership I find to be a terrible design as the other side of Fiat is Toyota and Maserati is next to Dodge. Mazda is a bit of a surprise.
  13. Very cool update, thanks for Posting Balthazar.
  14. Saw a Rat Rod today on a trailer being pulled by a Chevy Dually with a Kit Camper on the back. Not sure where there are going or coming from but the car was awesome.
  15. Sorry to hear that, I know it hurts to loose a loved one and I have lost many a dog over the years. Sending my heartfelt wishes in this time of loss. All the best.
  16. Interesting, but understandable to meet Euro and US CAFE. Be interesting to see how they incorporate E-Boost.
  17. First Auto I owned was a hand me down from my dad, He bought for $1,735 a fully loaded 1976 Chevy Luv Series 5 pickup truck bought in 1975. I restored it, painted, etc putting in about 2K and sold it in 86 to a lady who loved the truck for 6K which was used to go to college in Japan. Price have gone crazy but also so has inflation since idiots vote in a living wage of $15hr. HELLO McFLY, you still can not live on that but you have to have a low minimum wage for kids to learn to work as they usually live at home. If your in your 30's or 40's still working at McDonalds for $9 hr, that is your fault. Stop forcing inflation on the rest of us. End of Soap Box message, Now back to trucks, Crazy that a fully loaded truck can hit $46K in 2015 when 1975 it sold for $1,735.00. 40 years has really changed things.
  18. Why would anyone limit themselves to EV range, even if that range is 500miles. Eventually I see the auto world as pure EV where you just go and swap out power cells. Very clean compared to fossil fuels. Right now CNG is the logical next step but I have seen a Suburban that was converted to a warp 9 motor with enough battery cells under the auto to give it 400 miles and still have AC, Heater, Nav, Stereo, etc. So I know it can be done. WARP11 motor is rated as 225HP, 673 ft lbs of torque. So why not have a quiet monster of an engine to pull a trailer, move your family around with and charge up at home. Like I said above, I believe eventually we will see battery packs with much higher range and the ability to just swap them out. Tesla has proved this with their new 300 mile range battery that can either be recharged or quick exchange at select supercharging stations. Just a mater of time and as a few others on this forum have stated, most people do not drive more than 300 to 500 miles in a day. This will cause people to think about what they want, the CHEVY BOLT with 200 mile range will make many reconsider the type of auto they buy next year. The logistics involved with supplying new and old battery packs every few hundred miles has been calculated to be impossible. Storage containers for gas is much easier and far faster. I can respect and understand that, but do keep in mind as I posted in the alternative section, they now have chargers that charge 100 miles per hr. In time we will have chargers that recharge just as fast as pumping petrol.
  19. So I went out and did check all the box's for a Crew Cab Z71 with Long Box fully loaded and it tops out at $42,569. Now if you add a diesel which is not available yet, $3730 cost per the story, you still only have a Z71 Fully loaded at $46,299. This is even including their premium Green Paint Job for 1K.
  20. All perspective. My guess is that if uconnect can be hacked, so can Onstar. What are fiat's exact quality issues? i know they are ranked low, but some specifics would be nice. I do think the money should be spent perfecting bread and butter vehicles also, but at least Alpha has some potential for low volume and hih profit cars. It also allows them to amortize costs of the new RWD platform to allow it to be used on future Dodges at reasonable prices. IMHO, there is a bigger picture there. In regards to UConnect and OnStar, I agree I also feel the MySync of Ford can also be hancked. They need to spend the proper engineering dollars on QA testing of these systems to prevent just this type of thing from happening. Better yet, hire these hack groups that report these flaws to heavily test their system before releasing it to begin with. In regards to both of you, FCA is spending billions to try and bring back the Alpha name plate, Delaying new models for existing lines and trying to find a company to merge with. As a CEO, I would leave ALPHA in the history books and spend those billions addressing the recall issues and updating and bringing to market the existing product lines. While not a fan of the FIAT line, in the US, they should at least expand that before trying to bring back ALPHA. We all know that JEEP, DODGE, CHRYSLER and RAM could use tweaks to outright start from scratch updates for some products and just a proper refresh on others. This is where I would spend the billions they are trying to sink back into ALPHA.

  22. True the GM Ignition recall has NOT slowed their sale of Auto's but then GM is also not trying to sell themselves or tie up with other car companies to survive. This is my feeling about the wasted money FCA is putting into the alpha new product launch versus spending the money on fixing the issues and making sure the existing autolines are solid. Fiat is a perfect example of terrible built cars. Where is the focus on building a long term reliable auto? GM Ignition I do not think is as bad as the 1.4 million auto's that can be hacked and controlled by someone at a computer. That is very bad.
  23. STOP THE PERSONAL ATTACKS FOLKS! Remember everyone has a right to their opinion but lets keep it focused on the auto industry and NOT on name calling. BACK on Subject, So FCA is admitting missing 5 recall deadlines. http://www.autoworldnews.com/articles/14909/20150606/fca-admits-to-missing-5-recent-recall-deadlines.htm So it looks like RAM has 1 million trucks recalled now for Electrical and various other issues surrounding the electrical. Dodge and Fiat have 350,000 recalls for loose motor mounts. Jeep has 1.4 million for the Uconnect software hacking issue. Clearly over 2 million affected NEW auto's for this model year and older. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/07/26/fca-2million-ram-airbag-recall/ Not a pretty way to try and sell yourself by failing to take care of the customer.
