  1. Hmmmm a few things that I don't like when reading that.. You're losing A LOT of range with that driving style. Let's say we have a 200mile range battery. only charge to 80% = 160miles Don't allow under 25% = 110miles I don't like how those numbers are adding up. You only have 55% of the battery to actually use in that scenario. Like I said, I am going to do a full write up on EVs Batteries, but this is some of the info I have gotten from MIT, so wanting to compare it to a few other sources and how they tend to believe this. Also Tesla has proven you can have a 200 mile range battery with full depletion and rapid charging, so this is another interesting comparison to do with say the Leaf or the upcoming Bolt. I was surprised to see that the Nissan Leaf, Fiat 500e, Mini EV and Prius all do follow what MIT states for battery. The long life modes are interesting, so why not change over to the way Tesla does it? More to come, that is for sure. Full Size Trucks are just not fit to be someone's only car with so many variables... What if I, on a lark, decide to take my Full Size Truck to a craft beer sampling, Saturday night in the city. I'd never find parking and miss half the event, while the guy in the Tesla Model S finds free electric parking and gets to the event in time! Compact Cars are just not fit to be someone's only car with so many variables... What if I, on a lark, help my friend move from one condo to another. I'd never fit his Laz-E Boy into the car, while the guy in the Tesla Model X fits tonnes of stuff just fine! Coupes are just not fit to be someone's only car with so many variables... What if I, on a lark, decide to take my Coupe to my child's field trip function. I'd never fit more than one kid into the car, while the people who don't make dumbass, rhetorical statements haul several kids in their vans/SUV's/trucks/sedans. TOO MANY RULES TO BE FOLLOWED. Are you a rule-follower, Booyah? Plus I am proud of my 12.3 inches. McFly you talking depth again? McFly I am talking at you! Who says you only have to settle for 12.3 inches? WHERES THE BEEF?
  2. I give them credit for building a solid off road truck, but their Predator look design is so tiring and just ugly to me.
  3. What a look to a truck. Sorry I know some of you guys here love your Chrome, but it seems the Asians have gone Chrome overload on their auto's and this is another perfect example of a freaking Fuggly Truck! Nissan should have spent the money on their cars and CUVs rather than waste it on this truck. Makes no sense.
  4. That's also assuming you left home with a full charge and didn't drive it at all up to that point(for a full charge). As for as I know(which isn't very well) there aren't any charging stations between me and my closest drag strip( ~30 miles). There has to be one somewhere in that stretch because there are some heavily populated areas on the way. Edit: Nope. Just looked at a map and there are only a few on the way to STL but a lot on the MO side of the river. This is also some o my ignorance showing but do all manufacturers use the same plug in? Yes the auto industry has pretty much standardized on the same type of 120, 220 or 440 type plug to charge your EV. While at the track you could always at least plug in with your 110 portable charging cord and NOT have to stop at the Gas station like the Rat Rod 72 nova will have to do to get home.
  5. Some things I have learned about EV battery packs: 1) Avoid full charging, this is one reason that mobile devices batteries only last a couple years, Leaf, Spark EV, Prius, etc have a long life setting that allows the battery to only charge up to 80% to maximize the life of the battery pack. 2) Avoid deep discharging of Battery pack as it weakens them. Leaf , Prius both recommend recharging when the battery is down to 25% power left. 3) Use a timer based Charger to optimize the efficiency of charging your battery pack. 4) On hot days park in the shade on cold days park in a garage. 5) If storing your EV, plan ahead to keep the batteries at 60% charged so you maintain a balanced battery pack. 6) Minimize use of DC quick chargers to maximize the battery life. Over all I am gathering additional resources as I plan to write a story covering EV batteries for the alternative forum.
  6. So a cheaper version of the hard plastic, poor reliable sprinter that they have always had. Does not look like much has changed. I have very mixed feelings about the design language, part of me says this is better looking than the Ram ProMaster or Ford Transit and the other part says this is just as bad. Talk about sucky van styling. Miss GM and Fords original American designed vans.
  7. The Station Wagon is Reborn as a Hybrid. Not bad looking, very functional. I bet this will do better for Kia in Europe than the US.
  8. I can pretty much agree with this. Bottom line it was a chance to be different. And kids do like different, even some people. It didn't even have to be crazy, just something different along the lines of the xb. The xB grew on me...I even like the second gen quite a bit.... While never a fan of the scion auto's as they felt cheap to me when you were in one but then it was supposed to be an entry point, I think Scion is where Prius and all EV's for Toyota should have been. What the fuggly Iphone is to millennials Scion could have been to them also. A whole little or lot of different. Toyota due to their ultra conservative be like everyone else blew their chance to really make themselves different.
  9. I am actually curious about the cold weather ability of full EV cars. Batteries already don't last as long in the cold so what will that trim the range down to? That's one of my biggest concerns with full EV cars is the range when it's 20 degrees outside(like today). Then I would be limited(even more) and less places to "fill up" at. At least until there more charging stations. That is a valid point and my own reading has led me to see that the newest 48V 400Ah Lithium batteries seem to handle the below freezing much better. In this I wonder what the actual battery pack is in the BOLT. The specifics will be telling on how far GM and LG pushed their use of the latest battery versions for maximum efficiency.
  10. Id like to see hpw the CHEVROLET Bolt does in Texas too... Because the CHEVROLET Silverado does well in Texas...actually, ANY gas guzzling pick-up truck and full-sized BOF SUV does well in Texas... According to their logic, and we all know who "they" is....if the Bolt happens to flop in Texas, in which I have a funny feeling it will, will that mean that Chevrolet's electric car program should be ceased and desisted? Yet I know it will sell by the butt loads on the west coast. I have already heard from my Chevy dealership about pre-ordering a bolt. All I have to do is put $500 down.
  11. WOW, So now you can over pay for an Infiniti badge or pay less and get the same XQ80 at Nissan. Still ugly as always, dated looking and is the wrinkles in the leather on the door supposed to say quality or just we were to cheap to build it right?
  12. Be interesting to see how the BOLT does in Michigan.
  13. And little Ocn would stand up and take notice if it was a hot smooth ripped Asian Man!
  14. Yawn, better but still does nothing to drive passion to me wanting to drive it.
  15. Would be cool if Chevy had some performance packages you could add to the Little Trax.
  16. Love the purple, this will be a cool collectors car.
  17. Yawn, the final days of the old muscle cars. Be interesting to see if they do a 21st century EV Performance package.
  18. But the Asian Woman is Hot, I would buy from her!
  19. OK I might be a bit slow on this comic, but what does drug use have to do with Tesla?
  20. If you all review the following links, Green Car did a sit down with the GM / LG folks about the Bolt. Some pretty informative info about how the BOLT was built from scratch and LG won the contract to build and test to engineering spec specific parts. Best part is the quote "We intend to do [better electric vehicles] better, more efficiently, and more cost effectively than anybody else can," Reuss said. This story is the most recent released on Feb 3rd 2016. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1102176_bolt-ev-powertrain-how-did-gm-and-lg-collaborate-on-design-production Here is the Official Release of info on the car in Jan 2016 at CES. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1101679_2017-chevrolet-bolt-ev-production-electric-car-unveiled-at-ces This story was done in Oct 2015. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1100562_2017-chevy-bolt-ev-development-gm-lg-chem-reveal-deep-partnership I have yet to find anything that says this is built on the Cruze platform. They make references to using the compact car expertise at the Korean Bought Daewoo company and having tested around the world mules built there. My personal feeling is that the BOLT will be every bit as competitive as the Model 3 from Tesla. In fact, I think this will force Tesla to rush their Model 3 to market as GM is going to do well with this auto. I also think this is what forced all other auto companies to finally commit to building a 200 mile range more or less EV for the world market. I tip my hat to Tesla for pushing the EV agenda and I think they have a 50/50 chance of staying independent, but GM will push this to the next level and then some other company will push it again. Not sure if the Luxury makers like BMW or MB will end up doing it or someone else, but who ever becomes #2 to market with a 4-5 passenger 200 Mile range EV will benefit from GM blazing the $30K EV auto.
  21. I for one have never blew off Tesla and I do not thing the VOLT or BOLT is a Half-Ass EV or Hybrid. Even Porsche's EV will not be Half-Ass. That being said yes some here are blowing EVs off and many others see the future changing faster than most expect. Embrace the future change, after all change is the only constant that will continue in the auto world.
  22. Ocn, Where Is The Love?
  23. OK, so this type of work we have seen from in-house OEMs so why does BMW need to use a 3rd party to do this? The dash is clearly dated from the late 70's to early 80's I feel. The exterior is not much better. Very conservative and does not scream performance.
  24. Wow, Thanks for sharing, those are some big changes, This was from the Factory that way? If so I would make them pay for the alignment as that totally sucks.
