Electrify America buying Tesla Storage for 800V charging systems. This will go into 100 installations this year to support the 800V rapid charging systems. https://www.foxnews.com/auto/volkswagen-backed-electrify-america-buying-tesla-tech-for-charging-stations Seems to get ready for the new Porsche Taycan EV, Electrify America has chosen Tesla power storage systems to help keep costs low by stockpiling off-peak electricity allowing to keep recharge rates low. The 100 re-charging stations with Tesla storage will go into key Porsche markets where the 800V system will charge 60 miles of range in 4 min. This will allow Porsche a key competitor to Tesla P100D or what is now their platinum car to fully recharge in less than 20 min.

Maxwell Technologies has announced their definitive merger agreement with Tesla, Inc. This is a $218 million dollar all-stock deal which put a value of $4.75 per share on the Maxwell common stock. To quote the news announcement from Maxwell; Tesla CEO Elon Musk is on record saying that ultracapacitors could provide a more likely bet for a breakthrough in energy storage than batteries. Maxwell Ultracapacitors can hold up to 300 watt-hours of electricity per kilogram. This represents 20% more storage than Tesla's largest battery cell pack. Maxwell is also on record saying that their Ultracapacitors have the potential to store more than double the energy by mass versus Tesla's current cell design and will allow Tesla to ramp up the density and speed factor of their auto's while greatly reducing the time to recharge. Looking at where Tesla is today and for the future, this purchase has to be also based on the fact that Maxwell Ultracapacitors use solid-state technology with no flammable electrolytes or rare earth minerals such as cobalt. One also has to think that this could be a hedge as Panasonic is on record as saying they will not have solid state batteries for about 10 years unlike Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz, Fisker, Dyson and other auto companies who have stated they will have solid state batteries in their electric vehicles between 2022 and 2025. Maxwell is also the ultracapacitor supplier to Geely, the parent company of Volvo where they will be used in Volvo's plug-in hybrids. Maxwell has also announced that they will showcase their Ultracapacitor storage system at Key Q1 2019 Grid and Utility Events such as DistribuTECH in New Orleans and Energy Storage Europe in Germany. To quote their press release: This one could take as a sign of how Tesla will grow their own home and business storage business with Solar. Musk in the most recent earning's call stated he thinks Tesla's energy storage business is to be one of their big growth areas this year.

I am sure there will be other options too as in a few years we will see the iPace and MQC EVs show up on the CPO scene plus there is always the Bolt which is in CPO now.

At least the prices are lower than what the Chinese are having to pay. Those prices are crazy. https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-model-3-launch-china-high-price-tag/

BMW News: BMW Vision iNext Puts A Very Bold Face Forward
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in BMW
So we saw this concept in 2018 with the understanding it would be out in 2021. Seems that BMW under promised and is now over delivering. It looks like it will be out at the beginning of 2020 as a 2021 model. BMW had their announcement then even on the BMW Group home page. https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/innovation/bmw-vision-i-next.html Now today BMW made another announcement showing their mules doing winter testing in Sweden. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/detail/T0291027EN/bmw-inext-undergoes-winter-trial-tests:-advancing-the-future-of-driving-pleasure-at-the-polar-circle To quote the press release: The future of driving pleasure is approaching fast and the BMW iNEXT takes the next hurdle of its path to serial production maturity. The winter test centre of the BMW Group in Arjeplog, Sweden is the setting for the current complete vehicle tests, which serve to optimise, examine and harmonise all drive, chassis and suspension components under extreme climate and road conditions. With its purely electric drive, the BMW iNEXT meets individual mobility needs in an especially sustainable manner. It also combines the latest developments from the areas of automated driving and intelligent connectivity offering passengers completely new ways of enjoying their ride. Bolt is a big seller on the west coast and you see them everywhere just as much as I am now starting to see the Tesla 3. Only difference is I do not hear of door handle problems and other issues that seem to have hit the Tesla 3. I think if Musk had focused on reliable over trick features like the pull in door handles, they would have a more robust product. BMW iNext CUV went from those trick door handles on the Concept to regular door handles on the mules that are running around now.

Greenlots acquired by Shell
G. David Felt replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
I agree that more charge points are needed, I see the ones on Seattle's city Streets are always being used and the 8 charge points here at my works are always full with a waiting line of EV / PHEVs that will be notified when the their turn to charge is ready.- 9 replies

Thanks Blu for pointing that out, just looked on GM.com and they are a certified performance shop but also does other brands too. I see they do not have the old GM performance web site, instead they have gone to a sub section of Chevrolet. https://rj-conlin.dcatalog.com/v/2019-Chevrolet-Performance-Catalog/?page=1 https://www.chevrolet.com/performance/overview The first link is from the actual performance site. So in looking at the performance upgrades for the 3.6L V6, I see no reason the Chevrolet parts would not work with the Buick, GMC or Cadillac auto's that have the same motor. Yes some tweaking might be needed based on space, but for the most part at a high level, they should work.
-
WOW, I have seen them all over here, but more important in eastern Washington, Idaho and a few in Montana. places where it gets really cold and they just work.
-
Yea never here this about the Chevrolet Bolt!

That is some freak-in massive electric speed!

Hyundai News:Rumorpile: Hyundai Tucson N May Pack 340 Horsepower
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
Agreed and I see Carid.com has a number of performance upgrades for the auto. Wonder what we will see in the aftermarket parts upgrades once this is released. ? -
@A Horse With No Name So in looking at the GM Performance Site, they have lots of tweaks for the motor in the GS. Pretty cheap way to improve performance output. Yes, not all say they will work with this motor but this 3.6L V6 is used in so many different auto's I bet you could easily use them on the GS. Funny to see Mopar Performance motors on the GMPerformance web site. ?♂️

A Brief Note from Your Friendly Staff Writer
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in The Lounge
@William Maley Thank you for all you did here, it was a pleasure of enjoyment to read your postings. Best of luck for the new position. Look forward to an update on how the new job goes. Keep Fighting ? to achieve your dreams and desires and you will win! -
Thank you, I never looked in the auto, but it is weird to see it fail like that. He also could have been doing something really weird. Wish I had taken a picture but needed to get the shopping done and back home.

Yet if you need this type of a work truck and especially if you have a farm, you probably already have Diesel tractors, so why bother with the Gas Motor when I bet the Diesel is far more efficient. ?

Now this I do not get, if you need the capability of a Super Duty, then Diesel is really the only common sense way to go. Gas is so inefficient, cool big block motor though. Thank you for posting, it is interesting to see Ford do this.

Hyundai News:Rumorpile: Hyundai Tucson N May Pack 340 Horsepower
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Hyundai
That is not what I am seeing or hearing and OEM EV options as they become more common will take off as more and more people will be happy to drop the maintenance and trips to the gas station unless on a road trip. -
Very sharp looking, great job on the build, I like the non-chrome appearance. What is your price range you want to stay within? Then maybe various folks here can play with builders and see if they can find you something you will like.

Then maybe you should wake up to the future that is coming. Oil Companies have as Shell will have their stations outfitted with Chargers for pay just like in Europe starting this year as they go about installing all across North America. Read the future here: -
Agree with your assessment, the Camaro is sterile.

Ran to the Korean grocery store, saw a brand new Ford Explorer that the front passenger tire was pushed right back into the wheel well. Guy looking at it and I asked him how it happened. Said he was in 2wd mode, it was slipping so pushed the 4x button at 35mph and then heard a loud snap noise and next thing he was spun around and so he drove it into the parking lot here. Me think he hit 4L and ended up with this result, his drive line to the wheel was snapped at the boot. Weird break but the whole suspension is all ripped up. Not impressed with how easily everything just tore apart. Gonna be expensive to repair.
