Genesis News: Genesis Plans A Stand-Alone Dealer Network
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Genesis
Cadillac has always been a stand alone dealership in Washington, but usually owned by someone or a group that also owned other dealerships. I totally agree with what they are doing for Genesis. The Luxury buyers do not want to have their high end auto mixed in with lower end products. This is where I believe BMW and MB will fail as a high end customer tend to not mix with their lower end cousins. My big wish is that Cadillac would step up faster with new product and require the existing dealers to invest in remodeling to be 21st century dealerships. To many are old Cadillac dealerships that have not really remodeled or updated in the last 20-30 years. -
Seems VW is in the News again, this time someone had commissioned a study to debunk that Diesel is toxic or a carcinogen. Seems they tested on live people and monkeys. https://af.reuters.com/article/africaTech/idAFL8N1PO23X OUCH.

Good Question but the sucker is old and yet still sells. The story says for the 9 th year, the 2018 model of production with minimal changes, it is the second best selling dodge behind the caravan. https://www.caranddriver.com/dodge/journey One does wonder if it will get replaced or just what, but they keep building them and they keep selling.

Sounds like due to China EV push that BMW is needing to hook up with a home grown company and built their EV product line from China focus and push it out to the world, I also bet that Toyota was probably more on the line for a heavy lift for Mini and BMW did not like the cost. Interesting times we live in!

Seems the Auto Industry could be in for losses on loans due to overvalued trade ins to allow people to move into a newer fancier auto. Good news that I see is that buying a CPO auto means we can get a loaded auto for cheap. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-01-25/underwater-on-your-trade-in-no-problem-u-s-car-lenders-say Love this write up on the 1990's 454SS. @ocnblu You will want a modern day version of this baby I bet! https://jalopnik.com/no-carmaker-has-the-guts-to-make-a-chevrolet-454-ss-tod-1822428167 Basic cab, quiet exhaust and the ability to leave everyone in the dust. 230 HP 385 LB-FT of torque and only $18,295 then.

Agree, my wifes friend Z28 also has the T tops and they built in a special place to store them in the back. Targa is cool, but also a pain to just take off and go, so I agree with Cubical that I would take a sky roof over a targa since so many now open up so big. Yet, I would still like a T Top on my SUV. That would be awesome!

Seems that the newest RAV4 was caught in hot weather testing in california and could be released next year in 2019 or sooner. Will say that the pictures are heavy covering but clearly you can see that the RAV4 is going away from their bullet look and into a more traditional SUV type body look. Supposed to be the first CUV on their global new TGNA platform. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/01/24/2019-toyota-rav4-redesign-spy-photos/#slide-7223474

Cadillac SuperCruise vs. Tesla Autopilot
G. David Felt replied to balthazar's topic in Industry News
This story nails why I do not think self driving auto's will be a hit for 20-30 years. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/01/24/self-driving-vehicles-survey-aaa/ As much as I believe self driving will give handicapped such as blind people better freedom to get around, we have a huge SCARED population that AAA has found are not wanting them on the road. AKA Baby Boomers fear technology. Good read on the percentages they show as this is based on a survey of their 20 million members. -

I love T Tops, especially on the Monte Carlo Areo SS. Wish they still had them as other than the Wrangler, I do not think anyone offers T tops any longer.

That is one HOT HOT Car!

As I said in the trucks or SUVs /CUVs where you need to haul / pull a trailer these make sense, but in cars with the tech we have on Hybrid and petro, diesel is a no go I think. Yes I will adjust to include the smaller CUVs but even then I think the cost over all of the powertrain and fuel makes it a hard sale now as we move forward with Hybrids that can equal or beat Diesel.

Awesome, Are you and Drew going to the show? While I would never own a Toyota myself, I am very happy for them rolling out a new line of TRD Pro's as this will make everyone else also step up their game. Good for all!

RIP Environment USA! Yea, not really seeing a need for Diesel auto's other than the Trucks or full size SUVs for hauling trailers.
-
Voluntary!, Come on Audi, you knew about the illegal software and you went Voluntary? Guess if they wanted to truly force killing off Diesel they have achieved that since pretty much Diesel is dead in many markets and I bet Europe will see a change in that fuel also.

End of year performance reviews, I hate these as they really can be more political than actual facts I feel sometimes.

Jeep News: Jeep Is Still Interested In A Sub-Renegade Crossover
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
I understand and get your point. Also I am not applying this next thought to you but just making an observation. The point I am making is that the culture also has affected this attitude due to the way the GOVs take so much of a person's income there. People who have grown up here and never been there do not understand that point compared to those that have lived abroad and had to deal with it in the past. Some love the all things small, socialist approach, but others do not. That is the point I was trying to make. Buy like you said, back on the FCA Topic, they see a need for a smaller footprint CUV in Europe and can sell it better for them. This is the one area I believe Ford and GM have both failed at in not realizing the need to build to their market, but trying to export American style of Auto to Europe. I doubt they could sell that small auto here and make money on it, but it might just work in Europe and Asia where people are also much smaller. -
@ocnblu and @daves87rs Talk about a shock when you search beef curtains. Cool, look forward to hearing about it and your thoughts on various models.

Jeep News: Jeep Is Still Interested In A Sub-Renegade Crossover
G. David Felt replied to William Maley's topic in Jeep
Hell, the whole Europeans only buy small auto's is BS. As long as they are socialist and take such a large chunk of a persons income to support the bulk of lazy gov and gov supported citizens, they are unable to buy larger more comfortable auto's. I have talked with many coworkers who complain about how much the gov takes in taxes and as such liimits their ability to buy more things or higher quality things. It really does suck in various ways. Europe has plenty of cool things to visit, but would not ever want to live there. One has to wonder also if their current system is not a reason why road size sucks, Humanity has always rebuilt and changes things, staying static is a fast path to death.
