  1. I agree with Drews post and figure the next 5 years will show what Johan has done with Cadillac and the success or failures that go with it. Going to be an interesting ride.
  2. Great write up, I am also interested in why they tranny would not go into 9th gear for the jeep. Would be good to find out what is up with that.
  3. Maybe I have slept through missing the bitching about executives being cribbed away. But Most people here do not care about that as much as the style of the auto's and naming convention. I would say I have seen minimal complaining about taking an executive away from another company and far more complaining about coping a style from others. Either way, If I was Johan, I would have gone with names for cadillac and use the alpha numeric for the global models if market research truly shows that is what Europe and Asia wants.
  4. I don't really think the cruze needs it but the impala and Malibu really would benefit from it. If the platforms are leveraged properly it should be easy as punch Also consider as you are striving for MPG what is more important to buyers AWD or MPG? When 2025 comes around what is more important AWD or MPG. If given a choice would more people pick AWD or 2 more MPG in a car that cost less? If you look at the volume of AWD models across all the MFG I think you will find your answer. Yet build an AWD with either the VOLT powertrain or pure EV with a 200-300 mile battery pack and you have a winner winner chicken dinner! The 450A Lithium Ion batteries are here and work, the auto companies who move forward faster will win the change over game.
  5. Confusion is all I see in this less than stellar auto.
  6. Nope the so called Hover Boards are made in China and not even a Hover board. They are a two wheel gyro balanced skateboard that is harder than it looks to ride and clearly burns to the ground even when in the packaging easily. Real Hover Board, then get this Made In America! http://www.examiner.com/article/arcaboard-hoverboard-a-real-deal-20k-device-runs-6-minutes-per-6-hour-charge or this company also is working on a hoverboard to be built and out in America in 2016. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/142464853/hendo-hoverboards-worlds-first-real-hoverboard http://hendohover.com/
  7. Tried multiple times, but just do not see what everyone thinks is so great about Breaking Bad. Boring show for me. I will take NCIS or Criminal Minds.
  8. Always got to be the Debbie Downer! Lets start off 2016 with the positive exciting attitude that new things will drive auto's that will excite us and in some ways this means electrification of the power train. Wishing you an awesome New Years Eve and New Year ocnblu!
  9. GMC is Freakin Lovely!
  10. Yet EV at 6 cents per Kilowatt is still cheaper yet.
  11. So for me, I would be happy with the following if I only could have 2 auto's. Road Trips and personal time driving, Escalade ESV Platinum V Edition Commuter Auto Chevy BOLT
  12. Welcome back Mule, In regards to the ELR, I think it depends on where you are in the country. Washington state with an abundance of Hydro power also is a extreme green state. Here you find plenty of plug in everything including the ELR all over the roads.
  13. So if 50 miles of electric driving means buying gas 4 times a year. Couldn't a 150 mile range mean never needing gas? If I had a short commute, which I actually do, I would rather have a pure electric car and never need gas. If the goal is zero emissions, no trips to the gas station, then a pure EV is the end game. As to why in 2016 you will be able to buy the BOLT!
  14. Sounds like VW is finding more and more areas that have been affected by the Diesel scandal and this will cause the EPA and CARB to push back the fix deadline again. I expect this will not move forward to fix till spring 2016.
  15. Interesting, better than what it has been.
  16. I do not understand how you can attack paying a premium for a desirable thing and then go to the wall for German luxury stuff. They are two sides of the same coin. SMK justifies it by having a short commute so burning less premium fuel as he says and renting a regular auto for road trips. Over all, I doubt SMK has even driven an electric auto and golf carts do not count. If you drive an electric, you can feel, see the desire in the instant 100% torque. Batteries is what is holding back this change over, but with the new 450 Amp Lithium Ion batteries, getting long range should become a thing of the past.
  17. Has Tesla Sunk Itself With the Model X? http://www.caranddriver.com/columns/has-tesla-sunk-itself-with-the-model-x-column Great write up with some very valid points about Tesla. They should have done the 3 model over the X and should have simplified the X. Thanks for posting. I agree, I actually dislike the whole Apple Store experience. Feels like visiting a pushy used Ford auto lot.
  18. Cadillac is doing great for what they have, they are adding additional models and no matter what SMK thinks, Cadillac will always be worse then his coveted over rated MB. Badge snobs are badge snobs and they will always ignore the science of a superior vehicle. Cadillac is not the standard of the world and I honestly hope they never use that tag line again as there is always room to improve. BMW - The Ultimate Driving Machine! Not anymore, plenty of nice auto's out there by various vendors that out drive BMW. MB - Does ANYONE remember their tag line? Nope I could not and had to bing it and guess what plenty of others could not remember it even in the auto press. Their NEW tag line - The Best or Nothing! Interesting note, many say the BMW tag line focuses on the youth where the MB tag line now focuses on the established. Will be interesting to see where they end up over the next few years. Cadillac - Dare Greatly, Honestly, it does nothing for me. I love my Cadillac products but this latest tag line just does nothing for me and when I ask others they also seem to agree. In fact looking at these three tag lines, only BMW came to peoples mind. NO ONE could think of MB or Cadillac tag lines. Also no one I asked could think of what the Asian luxury tag lines were. End result, Cadillac needs to focus on marketing each and every product they have and get people to be aware of their great quality auto's. How would you all do it?
  19. ^ +1 Totally agree with the AWD in cars everywhere.
  20. Pass on CVTs, have not had any good experience with them. Give me a solid good old fashion gear based Transmission
  21. Nation wide all businesses should have to shut down for ALL FEDERAL Holidays. Plus I think everyone should be off the last week of the year between xmas and new years day.
  22. Have to say I do like the dash, seems to be a well thought out CUV and should do nicely in the market. Exterior, UGH, your right it is very polarizing and the back is just weird but the front, Looks like they started to pull out the nose of the auto and then it either got cut off or it looks like someone punched it in the faces. Have to pass on this ugly auto.
  23. Fact is, who ever can deliver a 400 mile range in a battery pack with an electric motor that can deliver 400hp with over 500 lbs of torque will win. The future will eventually be electric and the stepping stone to there will be alternative fuel like BioDiesel and CNG plus your plug in hybrids like the volt. Course the EV engine is already available: 420 HP 560 LBS of Torque AMR Dual Stack 250-90 AC Liquid cooled motor. Weight is 180 lbs Size is 18.5 inches long Diameter is 10.5 inches Red Line RPM 10,000 Thermal Cooling: Internal oil pump with water heat exchange. Try to beat that with your turbo 4 bangers.
  24. $7500 credit baby, so then $32,500 purchase price.
  25. SMK, not everyone must be small like you to fit in the over rated MB auto's. Many Americans are in dead OBESE! I could even afford to loose some weight and I am sure we all could. Yet at 6'6" tall and now at 280lbs. having been a body builder for most of my life I am not a small person. I DO NOT fit into most auto's and still have the room for family and friends to sit behind me. Many americans also being big still need to fit people into the auto for transportation. As Such, America loves CUVs / SUVs for the added space and even more for the higher seating position with a better view of the road. If the compact market was not priced where it was and the compacts were all CUVs/SUVs design, you would see even more sales. In regards to Europe, due to the history of the socialist countries and people clinging to their old narrow streets, they have built a different culture. Yet even then you see the rich buy the SUVs/CUVs and it would be much like the US if they would replace all the old roads with modern ones and relegate much of the old stuff to history books.
