Car spotting in the first month of summer - June 2021
oldshurst442 replied to trinacriabob's topic in The Lounge
Of course Im gonna be the one to disagree about which A-Body is the looker of the four... OBVIOUSLY its the Oldsmobile Cutlass!!! You see, the Cutlass has a rounded pillarless C pillar And in 1970, had a slight hump over the rear wheels. Something the others did not have. The Pontiac's treatment was a mix of what Chevy and Buick done with their C pillar. While the Chevy and Buick really look like twins The front ends of the Chevelle, Skylark and Cutlass from 1970 on are really really similar as where Pontiac's front end is unique. But in 1969, the Malibu/Chevelle's C Pillar is most unique from all of them. Anyway, the GM A -Body 1968-1972 is such a beautiful car. In convertible and coupe form. Especially the fastback coupes! -
Not to take ANYTHING away from your pain being a Blue Jackets fan but... Just listen to this guy's rant. If you have watched the NHL only since 2004, you'd realize that Leafs fans have it worse. But if have have been an NHL hockey fan for ever, you'd realize that the Leafs hadnt won a Stanley Cup since 1967. Which would be the absolute worse drought of ANY North American pro league. The Red Sox beat their curse. The Cubbies have beat their curse. Hell, the Bruins have found a way to beat their arch rival who ALWAYS lost to the Canadiens have won 1 Stanley Cup while beating the Habs on way for that Stanley Cup... The Blue Jackets are still a new franchise per se. But even they have had MORE play off success than the Maple Leafs... EDIT: I just saw this video. THIS dude pisses on EVERY North American sports LEague teams. THIS guy is GREAT! I havent watched the video yet so I have NO idea what he said about these shytty Leafs, but Im sure if we both watch it, we will BOTH agree that The Jackets are alright compared to the the Leafs. Poor Torontonians. The RAPTORS have a chance to win another championship and still be better than thee Maple Leafs. The BLUE JAYS are steaming hot this year and they too, could win another championship. Yet the Leafs, are still at the bottom of the play off barrel.

Ive seen the Exorcist 3-4 times. All before I was 30 years old. Scared the living daylights out of me every single time. The last time, I was 24 or 25 years old (around 1997-98) or even 26. Now, this last time, I wasnt really scared of the movie, just the circumstances around my surroundings. At this point in my life, I didnt believe in ghosts or witches or goblins. I was in peak form physically and mentally and most of all, I was an adult. A young, handsome fella. Lets be real, the only thing I was afraid of was my very Greek mother. Ok...back to the Exorcist that I saw when I was in my mid-20s for the last time. I rented the movie. It wasnt the special, never-before-seen special edition version. It was the regular version. Well, this particular summer night happened to be a very windy night. No air-con in my parent's house so my bedroom window was open to let the cool air breeze flow. Like a cliche, there was a tree outside my window. And it rattled on the house when there was a strong enough breeze. Let me repeat, I wasnt afraid of a possessed Linda Blair, swearing and vomiting on movie actor Priests. But by Golly every time that stupid tree rubbed against the house I opened my eyes real wide. I didnt sleep well that particular night. The next night I slept like I hadnt slept for 2 days and nights. But I havent seen this movie again... I dont really have the appetite to see the deleted scenes either as of now... My 48 year old ass wont be able to handle my ego being bruised if it happens to be another breezy night...

I heard this song for the first time in years after David Pastrnak got a hat trick last night and the Gahden's DJ played this song while 18 000 Bruins fans were ecstatic and were singing along. So...I got inspired to post this today

I like certain aspects and details of this design. Certain angles of it are sublime.

At that point...you shouldnt give two shytes about what anybody else thinks. If you feel like talking to him, well talk to him. He'll be listening! And if anybody judges you for it, to heck with all of 'em!

I saw a new 2021 Sonata today with that same exterior colour. I dont know how I feel about that colour. It left me speechless. 1. Because its such an unusual rare colour for a car, it was refreshing to see something so different from a sea of boring black, white and silver/grey. 2. BUT...who the phoque wants a grey primer paint job for their brand new shiny car? NOT ME I tell you!!!

V Series Cadillacs were not mentioned. Maybe the ones equipped with a manual transmission would be collectible. Maybe it doesnt matter what transmission a V Series Cadillac has...but these have got the potential to be valuable. In my honest opinion, other than the very exotic supercars and the super hot cars like the Hellcats and the one off Camaro and Mustang, and the occasional AMG Mercedes and M badged BMW might be collectible. Maybe an Audi V10 and Viper could be collectible, but other than those, I dont think cars after the 1990s have the potential to be collectible NOT because of the cars themselves, but of the people. Lets be honest, car guys and gals have been on a serious decline. The ones that are left are getting at the age where they are starting their childhood collections now. And those are the guys and gals that grew up as young kids and teenagers in the 1990s and played Playstation Gran Turismo video games and watched the Fast and Furious movie franchise. And the cars that were part of THAT culture are starting to become classics now. The Acura Integras, the Skylines, the Mark IV Supras, the Nissan 300 TTV6 and the like...and THOSE cars are from the 1990s. Very few 2000s cars are gonna be collectible. In the 1980s, you just knew that the muscle cars of the 1960s were gonna be collectible. They made a few movies that starred 1960s muscle. Gone in 60 Seconds comes to mind. We are in 2021. 20 years ago, Fast and Furious came out. Hence the Skylines, and Supras being collectible to a point today. Even the Buick Grand National Buick got a boost and is more sought after because of that movie franchise. But we dont hear too much about 1980s cars being sought after today. Well, the cars that came after the 2000s, there really is nothing that really grabs the attention that young kids and teenagers will want to re-live their young years when they will become 40 and 50 and 60 in a decade and two from now. V Series Cadillacs? Maybe. Vipers? Maybe. One off Camaros and Mustangs? Maybe. Do you see a Transformers Edition Camaro being a lustful car in a decade from now? I dont. Not even a mid 2010s Bullitt Mustang as THAT pop culture icon was for the Boomers. Not so much for a Millennial or Gen Z to collect a mid 2010 Bullit verison. Boomers in a decade from now will be in an age bracket that does not facilitate car collecting. Possibly a GT500 of any 2000s vintage and maybe the GT350 and the Camaro ZL1 has the potential to be a collectible. AMG Mercedes and M Badged BMWs and the Audi R10 V10 have the potential. 1st gen Miatas are at an age where if they would be collectible, their prices would start to go up and we would have some sort of buzz surrounding them, but alas, nothing. Therefore, these newer ones will not be special either. Dont laugh. Maybe Priuses... These have that weird factor that sometimes is necessary to be collectible cars. Ditto for a Kia Soul and Nissan Cube. Because it seems, todays youthful kids, dont seem to get excited for cars, and ther oddball Prius, Cube and Soul just might do if for them 20-30 years from now, but I doubt that as today's cars, since the 2000s, we treat cars as disposable appliances and hence why almost no cars from this era will be collectible, because today, we dont value them at all. We dont see these very same cars as exciting, so why would we value them in the future? We dispose of them today for something newer and shinier, we will just continue that trend in the future because we dont have any fond memoires for them now and we wont have any nostalgia for them them later.

I was a stop light the other day. 2 lane highway. After these lights, the highway opens up and there are no more lights for a dozen of miles or so. 70 KM/H (45 MPH) speed limit but folk drive 100 KM/H (60 MPH) and the cops usually let the traffic flow at those higher speeds...usually. In front of me at pole position was a Hyundai Ioniq of the year. To his left was a new of the year Nissan Leaf. In back of the Hyundai, there I was. Nobody else but us three. I said (to myself)..."GREAT! Im stuck behind two earth loving snails!" (Because I believed both would drive the speed limit and both would block both lanes in preventing me from passing...) To my surprise, when the lights turned green, they both jack rabbited their start and never let off the "gas". Its as if they were racing each other... (Not quite, but they both eagerly accelerated...) I was caught flat footed, but I immediately floored my Acura. It took a awhile for me to catch up and by that time, these guys were still accelerating. Let me tell you, for these EVs that are NOT Teslas in that both of these EVs are more 'geared' to be family oriented rather than speed statuts oriented, my Acura had to work hard JUST to keep up. I had more than enough power to surpass them, I think, because maybe they were not using all of their juice, and maybe my Acura did NOT have what it took to surpass them. Just goes to show you how fast EVs really are no matter what type of EVs were are talking about. It was quite fun just trying to keep up with them. Im sure they had the same fun I did. Luckily, no cops were around for us to see if they would let us drive at 60MPH and more...

I forgot that these even existed. I havent seen that many in my lifetime, maybe 2. Or was it the same one that I saw twice. I saw it when I was a kid. Anyway, thanx for the blast from the past! EDIT: Yeah, not that you need any validation from me, but the Canoo version DOES look a lot like the Veedub!

You know what? BMW M3s and M5s of the 1980s could kiss my a$$!!! As much as I LOVE that GNX, and I wished the Olds Cutlass (HURST or 442) could have had something similar in performance, I soooooo want then and now, that dinky turbo-ed V6 in the 1989 Trans Am And this one actually handled the so-called twisties.... FROM the factory!

^^^ Hey...those are the UFOs... How did you get your hands on them from the Feds, or CIA or even the MIB?
-
Dont forget an insanely expensive, bland and dumpy 4-door... 100 000 dollars IN the mid-1980s I just felt left out of the slugfest that I too, wanted to fight for something, so I took a shot against the GNX. But in reality, I LOVE the GNX. I only merely like the AMG Hammer. Id take the GNX hands DOWN, all day, every day, and every night over the Hammer. But I DO like LOVE that the Hammer has a big (for mid 1980s) V8 under the hood. EDIT: I wanted to address this to @balthazar, but @surreal1272 didnt waste any time to...address that little thing called price. I was answering a call that @David was phoning in. He called, I answered. I hung up. OK...I may have slightly hinted that maybe a turbo, dinky V6 might not BE a N/A V8...but hey!!! 1987 Olds442 307 CI V8 Deal with it!!!

As long as you show up with something like that, we (I) accept.

9000 lbs... Will the Silverado EV pick-up weigh the same? What about the EV F-150? 7000, 8000, 9000 lbs? Jeeeezus!!! If the weight dont come down, imagine these things getting into an accident with one another. (I aint talking about the battery aspect, but the sheer weight of these things) 14 000-16 000-18 000 lbs of force NOT including the speed factor with just a TWO vehicle collision. Man, a small multiple car pile-up on a highway with 3 EV pick-up trucks, 2-3 5000 lbs Tesla Model S/Porsche Taycans or Audi GTs WILL produce a mushroom cloud and you WILL feel a shock wave 3 miles away!!!

And also with regards to the other "dangerous" dogs that you mentioned. These types of dogs...is what David said: Dogs behave the way they have been trained to behave. Big, powerful dogs make good guard dogs, because they are big, powerful...and they can be trained. So they are what they are. Now...the part of turning when mistreated. What animal does NOT turn when mistreated? Dolphins are one of the most docile mammals on the planet. More friendly than humans even. Very playful with themselves and with humans. Piss one off and see if they wont kill you... Especially German Shepherds. They will protect not only their master, but their master's better half and kids. ESPECIALLY to the kids if that German Shepherd has had a relationship with the kids. And often to the detriment of the aggressor... Pitbulls are no more dangerous than a poodle. Pitbulls are very strong animals. And are very susceptible to be trained as an aggressive breed. And humans train them and mistreat them on PURPOSE on the SOLE purpose of these dogs to BE aggressive and to be killers. Not the breeds fault if we humans choose to be garbage masters towards this breed. If anything, its us humans that need to be re-evaluated with our intentions of what we are going to do with this breed rather than question the breed itself.

Late last night, I had a strange reaction. Something was not right. Something was off. It felt as if something was going on with my body. A transformation if you will. I yelled to my wife to get the phone and call 911 and then to start recording. HALFWAY THROUGH I TOLD HER TO GET THE KIDS AND GET THE PHOQUE OUT OF THE HOUSE!!! SHE AND THE KIDS DID NOT MAKE IT!!! At least that is what I thought... I just caught my son with his dumb ass friend embrace his new identity. This is what I captured (At least my son has good taste in music if not for any regards to his and anybody else's safety) Still dont know what happened to my wife though... Enough with the jokes... I woke up to a sore (left) shoulder where they vaccinated me. Feels like I took a punch to it. Nothing major. Same for my wifey. We both feel normal, which translates to we are both in great spirits.

The wife and I just returned from our 1st Pfizer vaccination. Our 2nd shot is September 3rd. Nothing to report just yet. (side effects). But then again, it has only been 45 minutes.
