GM News: GM's Upcoming Electric Onslaught
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
@smk4565 You contend yourself with this AMG car at the mid 50 000 dollar range... and Ill contend myself with this at 65 000... And Ill be laughing at you thinking you got a better, faster, more luxurious car for the price... PS: I could probably fit more stuff in the Vette too...- 282 replies

The only NiN song I liked (past tense) is...and only because it was super popular with the Montreal strippers when they did their...um...dance is...Closer. But Im over the song. Like 20 years ago. I wont listen to it anymore. I do have some fun memories with the song playing in the background, though. Apparently...this was also a stripper favorite. Was too young for the strip clubs for this song, but I did have some fun times at the rollerblade rink with a couple of dates back in the day. The song was a staple for that scene too... Def Leppard would be my favorite 1980s rock band and Hysteria would be THE album... "Step inside, walk this way. You and me babe...hey hey!!!" will ALWAYS be the intro version for me!!! ZZ TOP, Van Halen and AC/DC follow closely!

GM News: GM's Upcoming Electric Onslaught

We are all smack talking Cadillac for not being able to sell us a high end 200 000 dollar car.... Bean counter arguments and tooo long ago history that Cadillac builders somehow forgot how to stitch a phoquing seam on leather....to whale penis blubber arguments that seem to be on other "luxury" vehicles... https://www.wired.com/2009/11/dartz/ Yet we forget that the Celestiq WILL be handbuilt... We could say that GM beancounters ALWAYS hamstring stuff...yet...the CELESTIQ WILL BE HANDBUILT.... You'd think that the beancounters will allow the necessary funds to allow this to happen the way it should, right? I mean...ITS GONNA BE HANDBUILT... Its GONNA BE A BOUTIQUE vehicle, non? Aint Bentley, Rolls, Ferrari and the like BOUTIQUE manufacturers??? Well...the Celestiq WILL be the same. This will NOT be mass produced. It will be on order to SPECIFIC...PERSONALIZED interiors... THIS is going back to how Cadillac, Duesenberg, Lincolns and ALL luxury cars were made...including the body. An owner chose the coach builder then... Anyway... There is a lot of shyte talking on a car that is not even out yet. Please, if we are gonna shyte on the Celestiq, at least wait until it actually comes out for sale. Then we can shyte on it. But I know one thing... Looking at the Corvette C8....for the BILLIONTH time... At what the engineers ACCOMPLISHED with THAT platform...at that PHOQUING PRICE POINT!!! ITS SAFE TO SAY THAT: 1. GM ENGINEERS BRING IT!!! 2. BEANCOUNTERS DONT EXERCISE THEIR FULL MIGHT ON THE PRODUCTS ANYMORE, RIGHT???!!! 3. ITS A CADILLAC. THAT MEANS GOING FORWARD...IT GOING TO BE A CADILLAC. LOOK AT THE 2021 ESCALADE'S INTERIOR PS: These are not 200 000 dollar Mercedes cars... Funny...nobody bats an eye lid for this shyte that Mercedes is peddling...RIGHT NOW...in the USofA. Cadillac is going UPSCALE and we find problems. Mercedes is continuing to go DOWNSCALE...yet we are fine with that... Something is wrong with our thinking!!! Why arent we bitching at Mercedes beancounting ways??? The CLA has a shyte reliabilty problem. The interior is cheap cheap cheap... THIS is a car that was released but a few years ago... For the second time...at least...in the new millennium....Mercedes Benz has SHYTE on their image. Anybody remember THIS Cimarron equivalent? I DO!!! Funny though....Mercedes GETS A PASS???!!! I DONT THINK SO!!! There is NO justification for Mercedes. THESE ARE WORSE THAN WHAT CADILLAC HAS EVER DONE!!! CIMARRON INCLUDED!!!- 282 replies

The fantasy choice that ignores reality that is more in line to what we need to do to make this a fun thread.
-
This was a common discussion over at Motor Trend forums and one that always amused me. An end of days vehicle thread is always fun . I will do two choices. The first will be a smart ass choice because I like being a smart ass... And then will be a choice that is fun and to the thread's point meaning...lets have fun, man. Fantasy threads are awesome, man!!! OK...the smart ass choice. You guys do realize, that when the sky is falling, and the end is near for humans...that gasoline will be scarce...right? Who is gonna refine that black gold to make gasoline. Who is gonna transport it to the gas pumps? Yeah...that's right! NO-BAW-DY! Depending where I decide in North America to escape from other dimwitted humans fighting each other for whatever it is they are fighting for in a collapse of sanity and order... The indigenous people knew how to get around in their homeland BEFORE the white man came over...Im just gonna copy what they did. To hunt and to protect. Old school with the bow and arrow because wood and stone could be found anywhere in the woods and river beds so I could make my own arrows and the bow itself and the like and a modern tomahawk because...well modern tomahawk is just an awesome tool that has been improved 1000% from an equally awesome predecessor. Plus miscellaneous modern survival stuff., The gun only as a last last resort. Bullets are gonna be hard to find. So we use those sparingly. And a North American Indian Canoe. The original go anywhere vehicle for North America. Light that one could carry it with ease in the forests, and easy to manoeuvre in the many little rivers of North America that could withstand the sometimes raging flows of those little rivers.... And easy to make. And if I decide to go waaaay waaaay up north to really make sure I get away from shytty humans... My vehicle of choice. Huskies and a sled

@dfelt You didnt piss me off, insult me or offend me in any way. LOL Im just correcting a misnomer about jobs in America... Shopkeep is the backbone of America. Or at least it was... Shopkeep was the KEY to the American Dream... Shopkeep was THE middle class. Now we have key phrases such as minimum wage is not/should not be wages big enough for a livable income? Lack of skillset? Shopkeep is the BACKBONE of BIG CORPORATIONS. Shopkeepers do what CEOs do... What skillsets are those you say at a small, family owned business? The basics of business 101 Id say. Food costs, payroll, advertising, balancing books, ordering product. Pricing the product to break even and then pricing the product to make a profit. Customer satisfaction. The actual work to prep and cook the food. Management of human resources and scheduling and teaching the job... The people that get trained to do the job also should be learning these skills from their bosses. Apprenticeships dont exist anymore. But apprenticeships in the restaurant industry and the mechanics domain and the carpentry industry and the plumbing industry was a STAPLE in American business and was a STAPLE for KEEPING the middle class stay afloat. It seems like Wall Street has done a number to you as well...and your Mr. Dfelt, are a sound, intelligent man. But this brain washing runs deep...deep enough even to skew intelligent folk much like yourself. I aint mad, nor do I want to insult you. Because I realize I might have...but I just want to EXPOSE thew bullshyte that runs rampant in modern day talk about minimum wage...

Sitting here contemplating what business hours we need to stay open...to be safe and responsible...(already Quebec made it law that restaurants could stay open but need to limit their capacity ton 50%). Or if maybe I stay open but drive thu only.... Anyway... Some songs that inspired me that also reminded me of Covid-19 . I kinda like the cute way Im thinking about it...lyrics and the up beat music...

True. But there is no incentive for restaurant staff to have pride in their work. Students...between their school day and their work day...really have loooong hours to achieve what it is they need to achieve in that day. Ungrateful bosses (owners or managers) and ESPECIALLY clients giving them shyte... MONEY...as in the piss poor amount they make vis-avis what they need to do to satisfy cleanliness, proper food prep, customer satisfaction... However...what DFELT said But... THAT is such a false statement. THAT statement is such a common brain washing attempt to suppress restaurant worker wages... And yet...not toooooo long ago...it was. How many Italian American and Italian Canadian, Jewish American and Jewish Canadian, Greek American and Greek Canadian, Chinese American and Chinese Canadian have immigrated to either country (US and Canada) from the 1900s-1970s and started off working at restaurants as dish washers or burger flippers, started a family, raised a family, bought houses and sent money BACK to the OLD COUNTRY and then STILL had enough money for some of them to even BUY OUT their FORMER boss' restaurant or start their own business to then have their sons and daughters work in that business? How many DINERS were open in the USofA feeding all walks of life from your friendly neighborhood police man to the trucker that trucked on from coast to coast and the waitress fed her son whose daddy was either killed in Viet Nam or Korea or whatever... I have seen it COUNTLESS of times. Then. You know when I stopped seeing this? Right about when Wall Street started bulshytiing Washington and then Washington (Ronald Reagan) gave FREE reigns for that greed and then that middle class dream went up in smoke... I pay my students slightly more than minimum. I MENTOR them to take pride in the JOB they do. I DEFEND MY RESTAURANT, MY FOOD I and MY STAFF serve and MY employees FROM SHYTTY ENTITLED customers. But I also GIVE GREAT FOOD AND SERVICE in RETURN for the MONEY the clients PAY US. (If we happen to phoque up...we own it) I cant give my staff any more than I do. The system is rigged. Apart from taxes and all... Big corporations and suppliers that supply me my stuff, GOUGE the PHOQUE outta me... In the good ole days when restaurant owners had to buy their stuff at the local grocery store...all had decent prices that also paid their workers decent salaries and everybody made decent wages that fed that supply chain and kept it moving. I dont do my own grocery shopping at the local grocery store that was once owned by my neighbor... And that supplier SHOULD be cheaper than that of the grocery store...but it aint...often its MORE expensive sometimes... And so forth and so forth...

The Corvette is being sold in the HERE and NOW... The Corvette has a platform that WILL support hybrid EV with ICE and only ICE AND could be used to go 100% BEV... Tadge was being coy when being asked about future possible C8 platformed Vettes...but he hinted LOUDLY and CLEARLY that the car is compliant with GM's future with EVs and BEVs and that the platform is engineered that way... PLUS... the AMG-ONE is DEAD DEAD DEAD And quite frankly...it and Mercedes go to HELL HELL HELL for all I care...- 282 replies

Then it doesnt work... Emissions is the hard part... And emissions for ICE is getting stricter and stricter. And this is a race engine...that has to be engineered to be 1000 plus horsepower, to meet the engineering specs promised, WITHOUT CHEATING THE EMISSIONS PART...which are getting stricter and stricter to which Mercedes coulndt meet when the emission regulations were relatively lax... https://www.theverge.com/2019/9/24/20881603/daimler-dieselgate-mercedes-benz-emissions-cheating-fine- 282 replies

Yes! A 3 cylinder. No cams. 600 HP. Like you said. The AMG-One is soooooo 5 years ago. An F1 engine in a road car... Great idea...to link F1 racing and road cars. Too bad it aint the 1990s anymore. Yeah. Me too. Although the Stingray C8 is the first base Corvette that I like and probably will prefer over the more hi-po versions in a long time.- 282 replies

GM News: GM's Upcoming Electric Onslaught
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
I believe the next Vette we will get will be a Z06 with a flat plane crank as they say. And the next one after that will be the one in the pics. A hybrid possibly callled the Zora with the aforementioned 900 plus horsepower. Elon is promising that the Tesla Roadster 2.0 will be a monster performer of epic proportions. 0-60 in 1.9 seconds || 1/4 mile in 8.8 seconds || Top speed 250 MPH || 620 mile range. Handling that is better than if it were on rails. Quite the little speed demon... And this is why I think...the AMG ONE will NOT be built: Mercedes-AMG missed the window of opportunity with the AMG One 1. Too much R&D money that went nowhere because it was supposed to be launched already. And now business is slowing for M-B 2. They need to move the additional R&D money for it to pay off the diesel scandal. 3. Emissions is the reason why it hasnt launched yet. And the more the AMG-One sits in R&D mode, the less time M-B has to sell it as Europe's emissions laws (and other countries and continents) are getting tighter and tighter for ICE vehicles. 4. The more money they dump into it, the LESS money they will have to engineer EVs. 5. The EV technology is advancing fast as it is. EV sports cars like the Tesla Roadster 2.0 will be the NEW benchmark for sports cars. The AMG One is fast becoming irrelevant and it aint even out yet. 6. Koenigsegg is getting ready to launch a 3 cylinder, camless, 600 plus horsepower supercar... Koenigsegg will be the one to benefit...- 282 replies

oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in General Motors
The Corvette was ALWAYS about performance... The Corvette ALWAYS spanked Porsche and Ferrari and then Porsche and Ferrari came back with models to counter the Vette and so forth and so forth... The Z-51 package is the most BASIC track package on a Corvette. Its the LOW LEVEL trim track package of Corvettes. Z51 is what you start off with. Then Chevy introduces the Z06 which is THE track package that REALLY sets records. Then there is the top Vette that gets more power and slightly better traction to cope with that power as compared to the Z06 making the top top Corvette the ULTIMATE in top speed, quickness and track. 45 seconds on the new mid engined C8 Z06 that will get better aero and down force and more power will be nothing for Corvette engineers to accomplish. Actually, when they were testing the BASE Stingray, they BENCHMARKED the 911 for track duty. And you know this... YOU have seen the pictures. What 911 is that anyway? Is that a special track oriented 911 I see in that pic testing along with that camo C8 before it was even revealed to the world that that is the new mid-engined Corvette? And...it does NOT stop there... As YOU know...the Corvette actually does go...racing... It had a solid start at Daytona Is that another Porsche behind the C8 racing there? Wow...Im shocked! I got to correct me opinion. By NO means Im saying that profits shouldnt be made when restoring a car. Its a BUSINESS. As it should be. But...like in the food industry or any other industry, money has to be made...but not at the expense of the customer in terms of safety. And...like in the food industry...it has to be a labour of love. Why? Well...cars...and food (in a restaurant)....is an art. It has to be appreciated by the end user. Yes...even in a fast food joint No labour of love there and a hamburger like that...gives MY profession a bad name. How many times do I hear anywhere that fast food is garbage???!!! Well...a hamburger like that...who am I to argue???!!! Same thing with the classic auto restoration business. Ill repeat my saying: "One should do it NOT for the money, but for the love of the automobile" And if done right with lots of love...the money WILL be there!!! Because the QUALITY of the work and the BEAUTY of the automobile will shine through and the buyer will view his purchase like he sees...art.
-
Why not flip a car for profit? If done right, and the car will be safe for the guy that buys it...Im all for that! The thing is, done ONLY for profit, in the good 'old capitalistic fashion, things are done cheap to maximize the bottom line. And THAT is no good. For the buyer, and the industry of restoring classic in general. The regular guy that wants a nice classic and gets bamboozled for "x" reason will not be participating in another romp of buying another restored classic...and...restoring ONLY for profit also screws the industry as it inflates the "popular" classics to extreme levels of unaffordability for the majority of the car enthusiasts and is only bought buy "collectionneurs" that just flip it again to the point of that car becoming undriveable because its too valuable and just becomes a garage queen until the next superstar fad classic becomes popular regulating the former classic worthless beause its time is up. In the meantime...the regular car guy just moves on to other interests...that may not be automotive in nature.
-
True true. And that Cadillac if restored properly will probably fetch more than what it costs. But sometimes, there are sought after classics that dont fetch as much either, so that is when the cost cutting measures happen. Im thinking about maybe something along the lines of a 1966 Oldsmobile 442. Its a 442, but not the right one (not the 1970 W-30) so that resembles your Chevelle 300 vs Chevelle SS example. Or maybe a 1967 Ford Fairlane GT. Its a classic. Its a great looking vehicle. Its a muscle car. its the top top Fairlane. But the market no longer supports THAT muscle car. But yeah. We are saying the same thing... My MAIN message is: "One should do it NOT for the money, but for the love of the automobile"
