The Restomod and Pro-Tour Dream Car Garage Thread
oldshurst442 replied to oldshurst442's topic in The Lounge
I miss those old Car and Driver and Motor Trend and Road and Track articles. Along with High Powered Pontiac? and Muscle Car Review and magazines of that nature. The articles then were written by and for the real car guy and the cars that were featured were made by the sweat and tears of real car guys. Today...its all about the 'ratings' on who will buy the subscriptions...ie sales sales sales no matter what bullshyte they spew... And the cars that are featured are about the SEMA shows or the high dollar resto-mods that are made for the millionaires that pay garages that have television shows to make them... Sure Boyd Coddington and Chip Foose and others were superstar hot rod mechanics before their TV shows... And this was also a time before Barrett-Jackson and SEMA was a popular fad. I feel as that pop culture has turned hot rodding and tuning into an entrepreneurial and profit making endeavor rather than stay to its roots as a pure love for the automobile itself. -

THAT is the VERY definition of a sleeper if I have ever seen. THAT is what I was referring to when we had the discussion a while back on sleepers. Sure that Seville always had a V8...but nobody would ever think this particular modeled Cadillac would be hot rodded...like ever! -

That is what I also was referring to. I never noticed it before you mentioned it, but both from the windshield onwards to the back have a very similar shape, and aerodynamic sleekness. And, the C-Pillar has the same rake and the rear fenders have the same roundness to them. They are like brothers from another mother! -

I also know what I wanna put the Ferrari derived 2.9 liter Twin turbo V6 Alfa Romeo into. A Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4 or Dodge Stealth R/T And yes @Cubical-aka-Moltar Since you posted in the other thread regarding the 3000GT that you think of the 3000GT as a Japanese Trans Am, I had time to reflect on that statement and I agree with that sentiment 100%. -

This is good. I like! I also want to do an AMG M156/159 motor restomod of some sort. I took my time to think about it! And I think I got it! Id do a German car with it, but it wouldnt be a Mercedes-Benz. It be a BMW. Id try to shoehorn it into a BMW Z8. Making this a pure German Shelby Cobra complete with the looks and bad-ass engine. Plus the awesome sounds it be making. Id also use that AMG motor in a Plymouth Prowler. Ive seen too many LS swaps and HEMI builds in a Prowler on the net. Me...Id use the Daimler-Chrysler merger to make me a proper hot rod Prowler. -
Tesla Model 3 Production Has Some 'Bottlenecks'
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
And to boot... the word engine... (not an engine powered by words...) But the word "engine" is a word rooted in two different languages... From the same wiki link as above... The word engine in other words...is not a pure English word...like most English words...making this turn of discussions concerning the English language and the definitions of very very ironic... And the word "ironic" is another word rooted in another language. Greek this time. Creating another ironic moment when a Greek descendant is pointing out ironies... SHYTE! This post did not make the 3-word rule that @ocnblu wants to muzzle me with... Oh well...better luck next time...I guess!- 176 replies

Next Huracán To Feature A Hybrid Powertrain
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Lamborghini
Happiness! I like the idea of hybridisation. I am not ready for a full-on electric Lambo or Ferrari or even Porsche or Corvette, but I am on board for hybrids. In hindsight, Im more saddened that the new Ford GT is NOT a hybrid rather than having an ecoboosted 6 cylinder as an engine. That is the reason why I prefer the new NSX over the GT. Therefore...for me...this is awesome news! -

^^^ Swartz's performance chassis. That is kinda what I want to do with a restomod and pro-toured 1970 442. -
Or we could just bludgeon ourselves to death when we disagree with each other. It is Halloween after all!

Ive actually got to listen to the Alfa Romeo Guilia's roar up close. Saw one on the road a month or two ago. I like the way it sounds! I havent thought of what car I want this engine in just yet...all I know is this engine sounds sweet and I would want it powering a classic of some sort. -

Ive already stated many times that I would drop a LSΧ small block crate engine naturally aspirated but with at least 500 ft.lbs of torque into a cloned 1969 or 1970 Olds 442. I also stated many times that I would get a Dynacorn GM A-Body body shell and parts and do a Tesla Model S swap with it. Chevelle or Lemans or Cutlass or Skylark...any of these would do. Of course cloned to look like the muscle cars they represent as in SS/GTO/442/GSΧ. -

I would put the Voodoo V8 into this Ford 1967 Fairlane. I would also drop the Voodoo in the Pantera -

Yeah...a 1965 GT350 clone with the Voodoo 5.2 liter V8 sounds like a keeper for me too! -
@ocnblu Truth hurts about: 1. Your employer 2. Pontiac The thing is...I got an avatar that oozes Pontiachismo! YOU had old maids as an avatar...WHERE'S THE BEEF?! And now you got a schizo dude! How fitting is that???!!! I found the other post hilare! But an eye for an eye... And yeah...'bout that thing...

I think only the last 2 years of Scion.
-
At least with his Fiat...Tony fixes it again... With my Ford...Its found on the road dead. In the beginning...it WAS fix or repair daily, but Sam got tired of doing that. Sam lacked the passion that Tony has! Tony IS Italian after all! Italians OOOOOOZE passion! *************************************** I never liked the Cube or the Scion Xb. I ALWAYS liked the Matrix and Vibe! I like the Kia Soul! Funky and useful and spunky and RELIABLE! What is there not to like?! The Cube and Scion were just too Japanesey anime cartooney for me to like. But I did welcome them in the car scene as they were definitely not cookie cutter. Every time I see one today, I smile! Breaks the monotony of the same old, same old of seeing a sea of boring SUVs and CUVs! (I am talking about The Cube...I dont think the Xb was sold in Canada, and if it was, I havent seen any on the road)

@Cubical-aka-Moltar and @balthazar I LOVE the fact you both when with the fullsized models! Im more with the ho-hum everyone wants a Challenger crowd E-Body. Not everyone loved an E-Body in the 1990s and early 2000s though. I did! I would want a modern scat pack 392 in a 1971 Plymouth 'Cuda. Like the one Dodge made for SEMA...but I want that in a 1971 'Cuda body Id also go 1969 GTX/Road Runner and 1970 Dodge Superbee with this new MOPAR crate engine accessibility. -
Because his employer is of an FCA dealership. Yes...Pontiac... Like Pontiac's soul (pun intended) has never been compromised leaving behind a legacy LESS worthy of a Kia Soul... Hey look! Trans Am's snowflake wheels! It MUST be a REAL Pontiac! Not some crappy European econobox underneath...a crappy European econobox that started the brand's demise... Chevy phoqued itself with these 2 cars...there was no reason for Pontiac to do the same... Yes. Yes. NEW FUN! Front wheel drive for the brand that builds excitement. A very badge engineered shyte box Chevy Citation at that! Hey...at least its a coupe, right?! (Daewoo) (Yes Korean) (but via Opel's Kadett...some serious clusterphoques involved in this one) Hey look! There is an SUV craze going on! Its the early 2000s and Pontiac really has no SUV or CUV. So...lets take a MINI-PHOQUING-VAN from Chevy that GM also uses in Europe and sells it as an Opel which makes THAT clusterphoque too big for Europe and useless for America...and we make a make-shift SUV with it... We will also make it ugly as hell just because...we can...because we are PONTIAC...we build excitement.. We will call it Aztek...with a 'K' not a 'C' because we are clever! And last but not least...we will produce a car JOINTLY with another car company...TOYOTA...because THEIR cars HAVE soul! Well...they did when the Matrix and Vibe were sold. And the Vibe is a REAL Pontiac because plastic body cladding! IRONY: Before there was a Kia Soul...there was a Nissan Cube... Before there was a Nissan Cube...there was a Scion Xb...(Maybe the Scion came before the Nissan Cube...it dont matter...both are weird little Japanese phenomenons that sold well enough in America...) Before there was the Toyota's Scion Xb...there was... Toyota Matrix and Pontiac Vibe... So...yeah... Kia Soul CAN be DIRECTLY compared to Pontiac via the Matrix... And the Matrix has all those cars I posted as a lineage... And there are MORE fake and soulless Pontiacs I could post...but those were sold ONLY in Canada...so you 'Mericans were spared!

Like I said...I dont stray too far off in internet land... I doubt that my browsing history...or that of my wife's and kids...leads us to have mail order broads delivered to our doorstop... No problem on the input! I did get to rant too...which feels good to get of my chest sometimes... So thank-you in return in being a psychiatrist to me.

I read the post too quickly as I had to leave the house and pick up my daughter from the bus stop so in haste I answered it all wrong as well... But now that I know and understand what is asked of us...Ill answer the question properly. 1. Advertising dollars is needed to keep your website up and running and if you could turn that into a profit...even better. Is what I say. Doing so in a manner that we, the users, could benefit, only makes our experience at CheersandGears a better place to be in. Im all for coupon codes that I could use for deals. That is a cool and neat idea. I welcome that! Like I said, if you could profit from that...AWESOME!!! 2. Adblocker detector for the users that use Adblock so they could benefit from coupon codes. I personally dont use Adblocker as ads dont bother me. Even if I did use Adblocker, an Adblocker detector would not bother me. Funny thing...Adblocker does bother me more than the ads do. I could ignore ads... I dont like giving permission to any entity to use my usage of my computer to do anything, including blocking ads. An Adblocker detector just counters what I do with Adblock and both entities now have information of how I use the internet... Its bad enough the internet has cookies to track the shyte I do on the internet...Adblocker and Adblocker detectors are now added to that list... So...I dont stray too far off in internet land to have weird ass cookies on my computer therefore the ads that I see are just the common shyte everyone sees... Yeah...like I have ever visited any site that leads me to see ads about Russian and Korean mail order brides...which I get from time to time...leading me to believe that the internet is such a piece of shyte place to be in sometimes. Depending where of course... CheersandGears is cool. So if you wanna make advertising dollars...I say..GO FOR IT!!! If you wanna make us...the users...profit by it too...EVEN BETTER!!! The Russian and Korean mail order bride ads are considered to be of the intrusive kind? Yeah...I dont like those...but there is nothing we could do about those...the internet is a lawless cesspool... Like I said...those are generic that everybody gets to see... If I let an entity like Adblocker in...I am just letting another gang of internet proprietors to use the info they have on me to sell to me in another way...or just to use my personal info somehow...in someway that only they could...hacking it seems could be done very easily...its just a hunch that I have...the hunch of not trusting ANYTHING on the web...

I completely did not understand what was asked of us. So I edited my previous reply to this one.

Yeah...but it dont look like a sedan...even less than a sedan of the 1930s. And I dont mean it to look like a PT Cruiser or HHR either. SSR and Prowler is all good though! There is one car out there that speaks to what it is I am hinting at. But in sedan form and not in (Presidential) limousine form. It dont have to be made from a Top Kick either...it could be a unibody design...just make the crossover tall...like they are now, high belt line...like how even sedans and CUVs alike are now...make them have a high ground clearance...like the Beast...even higher...and voila... I keep on saying sedan making it seem like I dont want hatch back styling... This...this is also what I wouldnt mind owning... Its not as high...but it works! Maybe a tad less Pontiac-y and more Buick-y... When this came out...boy...many of you thought this was the ugliest pile of shyte ever, huh? Ill tell you something...its a lot better looking than the ugly shyte CUVs the manufacturers are throwing down our throats today...

Im slowly accepting of the reality that CUV and SUV-like vehicles are the norm. RWD in Montreal in a no-go for me...maybe in another 10-15 years when the St-Lawrence Valley will be getting less snow and be less cold due to climate change. This year, the weather dudes are predicting a mild winter regarding temperatures, but are calling for lots of snow. Freezing temps that favour icey roads or mild weather and lots of snow or both...is not an ideal scenario for RWD cars being daily driven so FWD is the way I sway. AWD is good, but AWD is NOT a necessity for me. With that being said...I have come to grips with reality that crossover types are what the masses want. If Im gonna buy a crossover from BMW or anybody else...I at least want my crossover to resemble the big sedans of the 1930s. They were huge. They had a high ground clearance. They even had running boards to better get in and out of them... Heck...the then Suburban was no different than the sedans of the time... So yeah...give me THAT!

That gap is changing at an exponential rate. Its only gonna get closer...like you said...with time... 15 years of EVs? Sure... In reality though...its closer to 5 years. Why? That is when the Model S was brought to market. Why the Model S? Are you crazy and dumb Oldshurst442? The Model S is really the first 100% pure EV to be sold to the public without any internal combustion engine help...either as a back-up engine or as a generator. The Nissan Leaf would argue that...but... The Tesla Model S is the first to have a range where as a daily driver..NO RANGE ANXIETY should be apparent...nay sayers and fraidy cats that have no concept of math and distance need not apply here... The Model S is the first to actually buck the trend of the less than 1% in its respective market... The Model S is really the 1st EV to change the public's perception of EVs on all kinds of levels...as a status symbol, as a family car, as a daily driver and so on... Also...still...in 2017...CHOICES are STILL VERY limited... Example... The NHL this year...just included in their league a new team...the Las Vegas Knights. We could laugh at them for not winning a Stanley Cup...while the Boston Bruins have 6...the Chicago Blackhawks have 5... WHAT in the world are you talking about? Well...we could talk all day about EVs representing not even 1% of the market... There simply isnt ANY choices for EVs to RIVAL ICE sales... Dont give me the Ford Fusion Energi and EV argument over the Fusion ecoboost sales differential... PRICE advantage is NOT in the Fusion electrics favour... Musk is discussing production hell...yet 512 000 orders are in for the Model 3... People KNOW that the Model 3 WILL NOT be delivered ANYTIME SOON THIS decade...yet they WANT this car... When GM gets their 20 models out by the time Tesla FINALLY delivers their 512 000 Model 3s...what will be the percentage then? With 512 000 Model 3s delivered and about half for GM...200 000 sales annually for EVs...shyte the Volt alone has about sold that many to date since its introduction in 2011...it aint far fetched that GM could sell 200 000 EVs annually in 2023 when they get PRODUCT available... Hence the NHL analogy... Give the Knights some time...in 20 years...they might have won 6 Stanley Cups equaling the Bruins in what the Bruins did in 80 years... I dont like the 1% argument because it does NOT reflect 2017 and beyond's reality... If Tesla went the way of Bombardier and the CSeries to Airbus and sold 50.1% of its Model 3 to GM or Ford or VW or Toyota...I would say 512 000 and then some Model 3s would be delivered by late 2018 EASILY...keeping the badge up front as a Tesla though...and that is why I under sell GM's EV sales by half of that...because GM does not have that cool factor just yet...but by the time GM rolls out their 20 models...that probably WILL change... At 512 000 Model 3s...that 1% in total sales goes up...and if we just calculate the Model 3s direct and indirect ICE competition (on different competitive factors such as price, RWD versus RWD versus AWD, exterior dimensions, interior dimensions and the like), at 512 000 sales and DELIVERIES...that percentage is a helluva lot more than just 1%...and THAT is just with one model... GM will also have its own...as with Toyota and possibly Ford and VW and Polestar... Even if Tesla would go belly up....there WILL be a manufacturer to pick up those 512 000 EV sales that the Model 3 is leaving behind... 512 000 pre-orders... THAT figure is mind blowing over 1 model car in 2017... The Word Machine's rant is over.
