Kia News: 2018 Kia Stinger to Begin At $32,800, GT At $39,200
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Kia
Yes! Yes! Most definitely does the name Stinger belong to a Mopar from the 1960s! -
My wife's 1.6 liter ecoboosted Fusion is almost as quiet as a mouse. Yes...its surprising why that is. For a ~3500 pound sedan powered by a measly 1.6 liter with an anemic (for its weight) 180 horsepower or so and not that much more torque numbers as horsepower numbers. Its good. And under full throttle...it aint buzzy either. I wouldnt call it throaty but it aint buzzy like how 4 cylinders use to sound like a decade ago. Especially domestic 4 cylinders. I mean...some Japanese 4 cylinders under full throttle do sound good! I want my muscle machines to be loud. I want the world to hear them! Yes, inside the car too. That philosophy goes with the fact that I also want my muscle machines to have loud and bright exterior colours. I want my luxury sedans to be quiet like a library. That is the distinction that I wanna make for what kind of loudness I prefer for my cars. As for EVs... I know how much noise induction motors make. If Im buying one, or converting an existing ICE car into one...then I have already accepted that what I am about to drive wont got a rumble to it! But then again...the last time I owned a V8 was in the mid 1990s. It was a tired V8 at that. In that time, Ive bought lame V6s, supercharged V6s, little 4 cylinders...I think its too damned late for me to lament the loss of the growl of a V8...

In pictures...the Stinger has intrigued me as of late. In pictures, I find the Stinger to be a good looking sedan. I stress "in pictures" because I got to see it in person first to let go of my own negative Korean car biases. But I do like the Genesis...so I dont know why I still hold this bias...I wouldnt buy one...but I like it! I see the Stinger more of a RWD Optima rather than a "Kia Charger" though. Not that that is bad thing. Whether I find its a RWD Optima or you view it as a Kia Charger. To be honest...I think its a GREAT thing that KIA and Hyundai are offering enthusiast machines. Yes Hyundai and KIA enthusiast machines are a work in progress, at least they are heading in an enthusiast direction. And heading in a good direction at that! -

There is really no other way to celebrate these holidays actually. I dont mind the snow. Its just the 1st snowfall of the season that I might grunt at. And in March. By the time St. Patrick's Day arrives, Im itching for it to end. LOL I love snowstorms. I love being in them. Driving in them (when Im practically the only dude on the road though) or watching the snow fall intensely from inside my home. I love ice skating (with my kids)... I dont mind winter at all. What I dont like is the -4 to -40 Farhenheit weather.

Exactly the same here. I second that emotion. Although I am very in a XMAS spirit this year. And I welcome the snow...fyet I still feel...ugh about it! Nice Bonneville!

Plastic engine covers... Is there a reason for them? Aesthetics? People dont want to see the engine as they feel wires and hoses is ugly? Doesnt the palstic engine cover rob power through keeping the heat in instead of dissipating it? Anyway...I hate these plsatic engine covers...even the high end Mercedes Benz ones that actually look like they were engineered to be part of the high horsepower formula...

@balthazar Thank-you for correcting me. Yes. It was in 1981. I just made the boo-boo of thinking it was in 1977 when GM downsized its fullsized models that the homogenized process began. My dad had a 1979 Impala 2 door with the 305. I knew the 305 was part of that homogenized process (hence those pics of the 3rd gen F-Bodies and G-Bodies engines and the mention of the not so HO 5.0 in California Vettes and Caprices and Fleetwoods) AND I knew that those fullsized models were also part of that homogenized process (hence why I mentioned Caprice and Fleetwood and the like) I assumed that the 305 started popping up in all divisions in 1977. To be fair...correct facts are correct facts.

If it makes you hot that you think another male thinks you are hot below the belt...than sure... Why not! Just to let you know though...I knew at a very early age that I dig females. Only females. But I am comfortable with MY sexuality to help you come out of the closet if it means that I got to compliment your...um...manhood... Enjoy...and good luck in your newfound sexuality...

Porsche News: Rumorpile: Porsche Reconsiders 911 Hybrid
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
Make fun all you want...but here is proof! 1966 Toronado steering wheel 1970 442 1970 GSX 1970 GTO 1969 Corvette ooops....it looks like a Vette does indeed have the same steering wheel as a Buick... Modern times Malibu You think you got me? On semantics? It just proves that homogenizing starting during the golden age of ICED muscle cars... You know...your other argument.... -
You do realize that your 1st paragraph has NOTHING to do with EVs, right? Hate on EVs all you want...homogeny started a looooong time ago.... Example: Camaro Firebird Only the the steering wheel is different... Camaro Firebird Monte Carlo Oldsmobile 1986 Cutlass Supreme 442 And of course the not so high output 5.0s found in California Corvettes, Caprices, Fleetwoods and the like! In the other thread you were saying that it be the same platform and only the shell will differentiate??? Like this? GM homogenized its engines in the 1970s...over 40 years ago! The 1980s gave us what I posted above... It only got worse from there? NO! It got better differentiated. The EVs will be the same...better differentiation between the cars... Hell...EVs cant get any worse than this sameness:

Porsche News: Rumorpile: Porsche Reconsiders 911 Hybrid
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
You say that up above... But then you say this down below... yet IGNORE the fact that the ZR1 ALMOST has the same whining noises as you find in an EV as a supercharger whine is just that...NOT an ENGINE RUMBLING NOISE but a whiny afterthought of a noise DROWNING out the V8 rumble you cherish so dearly... How many naturally aspirated performance engines are still around? The base engines of those...sure! But the top dog ones are all force fed by devices that make crappy noises. A turbo aint better... PSSSSSS. PSSSSSS. blow valve sounds are just as annoying... The Voodoo is just about the only 500 naturally aspirated horses around... 1 engine in an ICE car is not my idea of what YOU are trying to disprove of when it comes to EVs... -
Porsche News: Rumorpile: Porsche Reconsiders 911 Hybrid
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
Read CLOSER... YOU always do that when somebody challenges you... DONT dismiss by finding a little thing...LOOK at the BIGGER picture... But yeah...EVEN steering wheels... A 1966 Toronado steering wheel was special...so was a 1970 442 that was different to the Toronado's The 1966 Riviera was different to the Toronado's and so was the GSX's to the 442 which all were different to the GTO and the Corvette... So yeah... A C6 steering wheel that is the same as a Malibu is EXACTLY how YOU want the EV argument to go down...but YOU dont want to admit to it because it puts a kink in your view of EVs as ICE cars today have started that trend...and YOU dont want to admit it! -
Porsche News: Rumorpile: Porsche Reconsiders 911 Hybrid
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
I agree with you here...except for the Jeepiat engine part... If it "feels" like its unique...its a computer thing that makes you have that illusion. The same could be done to an electric motor, maybe... An EV will NEVER idle like a MOPAR V8...but its acceleration will always be like a rocket ship... But really, dont you think its sad that both Chevy and Dodge have to add LARGER superchargers to their already supercharged beast of V8s to have a different, but same to a certain extent, of their Z06 and Hellcat engines to propel their ZR1 and Demon cars? BTW...a supercharger was both added to the base engines to get the Z06 and Hellcat... OK...stronger internals, but basically same block as base engines... -
Porsche News: Rumorpile: Porsche Reconsiders 911 Hybrid
oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
But..isnt that how MOST ICE cars are now? The interior bits are also shared...when a C6 Vette has the EXACT same steering wheel as the same year Malibu... All steering wheels actually come from that one same supplier... Engines are no longer being built to a specific taste on a specific type of car. Very few engines have that specialness to them. But even then, they are shared across the corporate parent. About that...noises coming from those engines are muted greatly...(most of the time) All the "negative" driving characteristics have been nannied to death with computer controlled helpers. Oversteer, understeer, torquesteer...all neutered and negated. All the good stuff too, all have computer aided shyte on them. Oversteer, understeer, acceleration, rev matching manual shifting, all done with computers... Therefore...the hate for EVs in that regard....maybe for nothing... -

oldshurst442 replied to William Maley's topic in Porsche
HA! This little guy is making Porsche shyte bricks!!! Hybrid 911...bring it on is what I say! 'Bout phoquing time! I love it when arrogance from Germania gets humbled... What Im thinking about...is that if Porsche actually goes 100% EV for the 911 one day and does it like a Tesla...AWD with 2 motors, 1 in front and 1 in back, then 100% of the trickiness to drive a 911 will be virtually eliminated. Negating 40-50 some odd years of engineering the 911 to death...which is good...I guess. But is it gonna be a "real" 911 though?
