Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
ccap41 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Things you don't have to think about? How about a 500 mile range EV with a wireless charging pad for the car/suv/truck in the garage? That sounds pretty ideal to me. -
Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG Unveils the AMG GLB 35

No, we're debating on the foldability of the 3rd row for the reasons you mentioned, people won't be sitting there often. ...less torque than my MKC...- 57 replies

I always think it is a great idea to continue to innovate and create new forms of propulsion, even if they don't work out. The need to continue to push limits is where there are groundbreaking breakthroughs.

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG Unveils the AMG GLB 35
ccap41 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
Definitely. It has to be pretty damn close to flat to appeal to me. Perfectly flat isn't necessary but it has to be damn close and it isn't so much needing the extra space but laying things flat that I just bought or am transporting is the concern.- 57 replies

Isn't that what the automobile was in the first place? There was never truly a "need" for an automobile. -
Mercedez Benz News Mercedes-AMG Unveils the AMG GLB 35

Most third rows in vehicles can be folded flat. I would only assume something this size with a third row would have the rear seats fold-able so the hatch space can actually be used.- 57 replies

There are limitations on literally everything. EVs, Gasoline, diesel, hydrogen... Of course each individual engine has its limits and that is why new engines come out every year with new/additional technology, like the examples I listed. I don't think we are at the engineering limits of gasoline engines yet.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

It wouldn't be a $24,000 price jump(81k - 57k). The Navigator jumps from $73,205 to $77,555 from base to middle model. The Escalade jumps from $76,490 to $82,090 from base to the next model/trim. -

I think this looks really good. It's probably smaller than I'd ever want to go again but it's probably a a pretty kickass daily for somebody who likely doesn't need a ton of space too often.- 57 replies

Because your reply to Balthy implied that while there is a huge price gap between the ICE Sonic and EV Bolt because they are not sharing anything that the ICE Equinox and theoretical Equinox-sized EV would share things. I must be missing something because his comparison seemed straight forward and not apples and oranges. Sonic -> Bolt - 20k price gap Equinox -> EV Equinox-sized vehicle - theoretical 20k price gap Do we? They're still making advances in the internal combustion engine.I don't think they've maxed them out at all yet. They're just cracking into the variable compression engines and GM has brand new fancy technology in both the 2.7T and new 5.3.
-
Then I'm confused why you mentioned the Sonic and Bolt not sharing anything as if the Equinox and Equinox EV would share things if we all agree it would be on its own dedicated EV platform.

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM
ccap41 replied to G. David Felt's topic in Electric Vehicles and Alternative Fuels
Absolutely not. They're so ridiculously overpriced I don't even consider them. I think they wanted like $3500-4000 for 3 years or 45,000 miles on my Lincoln. -
Yeah, I assumed that is what you were insinuating.
-
Honestly... sounds good.
-
A theoretical Equinox-size EV wouldn't share anything either. It would have to be a ground up design to be worth anything and not just attempt to shimmy batteries and electric motors under the skin. As far as I know, we were just talking Equinox size and not actually an Equinox EV.
-
I'd also bet that if a military were to put in a bulk order that they'd have no issue fitting a more capable setup with solid axles, if that's that desirable.

I wonder what a Bolt would look like if it was exactly an Equinox or Blazer?

Alternative Fuels & Propulsion RANDOM

Boats seem like the worst segment to crack into because there's no regenerative braking in water and they're so restrictive in water it would be like a car constantly towing something except worse. -

This is a little masturbation corner for Dfelt... ? -
It is mind boggling how much wrong information they spread and lack of knowledge of their own products. The steps are 100% what you just said. I told my buddy what I was looking for and what I wanted to spend and he tried to get me into something else. "You don't want that. You want xxx." Sorry bud, I like you as a friend but you're not telling me what I want and why I want it. I'd rather give him $50 and never have to worry about buying from him. Let's have a mutual agreement that won't make this awkward. He did that with both my Escape and Focus purchases. Short story; I didn't buy either from him.

I think it should be a legitimate requirement if your brand sells manual transmissions. There is no excuse for somebody who's job requires you to move vehicles around and you can't do part of the job because you're too lazy to learn. Inexcusable, imo. They don't have to be good or great at it but you should be able to do your job.

I don't really think all of those are factors. I think the biggest two are its quirky styling that isn't car and isn't SUV and the other is range. The dealerships should be knowledgeable enough to educate the buyers to let them know that they will likely never need to find a charging station unless they're traveling but I have a friend who works at a dealership and he doesn't know jack sht about cars. I can only imagine most car salespeople are the same based off buying experiences. If anything, Tesla should be helping sell EVs by having a great brand image for electric cars.

Oh yeah, it isn't a school bus I ride to work..lol

44 miles is a massive difference and can cut the fuel cost in a fourth. So about $3000 instead. Much different. Living in a rural area, I guess I just assumed they put a lot more than 44 miles a day on them(and they probably do around me).
