  1. Don't all hybrid/EVs have regenerative braking?
  2. 44k? For which battery?
  3. While I am genuinely glad that it has worked out for you I would think the option of folding flat and if you need it angled up some you can throw blankets or something under there would be better as a whole. I've folded mine flat only a couple of times but I think flat would be more beneficial in most cases. I guess it also depends on how close to flat they are. I know the older vehicles that had folding rear seats really just leaned up against the front two seats. So even if they don't fold perfectly flat they're all pretty close now, I'd assume.
  4. There was something I read a couple weeks ago that GM just placed an order for 1000 more of these to their plant in Australia. Maybe there is a wicked shortage right now. supposedly it was their largest single order placed.
  5. Yeah that 10spd really helps it put more power down.. *rolls eyes* A car with this broad of a torque curve and power band it could be a 3 spd and not have problems. Maybe you aren't but there is never enough V8 horsepower! 3525lbs w/ 650hp/650tq or 3625lbs w/ 503hp. Which one sounds 'better'? The AMG GT S might be a beautiful car but the Vette has it's number. I'd wager the Grand Sport would run circles around the AMG GT S let alone the Z06 or upcoming ZR1. I know it isn't a fair comparison but the Grand Sport beat the McLaren 570 around a lap at Lightning Lap and the AMG GT S was slower than the 570 at Best Driver's Car.
  6. Yeah, I see zero STI in this Civic. I mean I guess you could say they both have the raised, large spoilers but that's it..
  7. Do you honestly think they haven't/aren't looking at other options? Do you think they made a phone call to GM and said, "Build us a Colorado to run off of hydrogen." Or the more likely scenario where they said what they needed out of a vehicle, and all of the supporting characteristics, and GM went hydrogen thinking it was the best for the given requirements. I think it's a little oblivious to think the government isn't looking into EV's for themselves. I don't know if hydrogen powered vehicles require the computers quite like an EV does but maybe they're trying to keep them from being hacked? If there's a computer, it can get hacked. That's why I said I don't know as much about hydrogen powered vehicles but it's just an idea.
  8. I didn't realize the Volt was shared with anything. I thought it was just it's own purpose built EV/Hybrid. It's definitely been more beneficial that my seats fold flat than if they didn't fold flat. It might help in some rare situations but it's hard to believe somebody would want them to be angled more often than flat. It's easier to throw a blanket under the seat to keep it angled than to want it flat and you just can't.
  9. There also hasn't been much need for them to advance and be produced at such a high rate until very recently. Even if they stayed the same exact price that would be a reduced price with inflation. I don't think they will "plummet" but if they dropped at all comparing to inflation that's a good amount of cost to owner difference. I just read on the Prius Prime that they cut the price $3,000 from the outgoing plug-in Prius. If you don't think a fair amount of that came from reduced battery costs then you're nuts. The Chevy Volt's msrp in 2013 was $33,500 and the new one for 2017 is CHEAPER at $33,220. The 2013 battery is a 16.5 kWh and the 2017 is 18.4 kWh battery. Lower msrp, larger battery. I know there are a million and one other factors that go into an entire car's msrp but I think it is fairly safe to say that they are being produced at a lower cost to the manufacturers.
  10. That's kind of how I see it. I would(and will when I have a home of my own) seriously consider a Volt and I guarantee you I'd be one of those people getting 200+mpg because I don't do a ton of driving so a 50 mile daily range and nightly charge would suit me perfectly. At my yearly average of right around 12,000 miles that's only about 33 miles driven a day. I'd say on average there's only one day a week that I really drive over 50 miles anyway. And exactly like you said, no care in the world because of the gasoline engine/generator for when I do travel long distances to visit my sister or vacationing.
  11. I'll be honest, I've never heard a single person complain about the smell of gasoline when pumping gas. I'm not saying it isn't a thing, I've just never heard of it other than you Mr. Felt.
  12. What's the difference? It might be a brand but all that it is, a high end trim level like a Lincoln Black Label. Except it will probably be executed better lol.
  13. Very good point. They might be stealing some of their own customers. Whatever brings in the dollars!
  14. It seems odd to call it a brand when it's a trim level. Regardless it seems like it has the ability to possibly take Buick to the next level and that's exciting. "Buick Avenir will be made...as a trim level instead of a car" AutoBlog
  15. I never really thought about using the Power Wall for use like this. I knew the intentions were to use stored energy for the peak hours but I didn't even think of charging on the down time and not strictly a solar setup for the charging. I love the ideas of all of this stuff it just seems like you better be living in the home for 20 years to really get a payoff. I also never realized that washer/drier/dishwasher timers could and are used like that. Ignorant me...
  16. This is cool! Do you know if those schedules are done from the charger or from the car then? Like, do I set the car up to only accept charge from X:00 - XX:00? That is very cool, indeed.
  17. Usually with that money you're buying standard performance in a performance car. Those cylinder-less cars you're speaking off offer a whole lot more for their asking price. It would be like buying a P75 Model S for P90 money. Funny you mention Ford GT's V6 while not mentioning the extensive use of carbon fiber and active aerodynamics. I thought that was interesting Mercedes was going to do that with that engine. Not sure what I think about it quite yet but interesting nonetheless.
  18. I don't know about hourly changes but I know there are definitely places that charge more for "peak hours" and less for slower times such as over night.
  19. 1999 z/28 test results 1999 Camaro v6 test results I realize they are 1999 and not 1998, FYI. But that's the same generation for the Camaro so I assumed it was okay. Found it interesting that the z/28 held a higher maximum lateral g's but the v6 did the emergency lane change a good amount quicker(nearly 5mph). They also took the same distance to brake 70-0mph. Interesting, indeeeeeeed.
  20. This is all that needed to be said.. you're defensive of them because you've owned them.. I'm not intentionally coming off aggressive.. That's the stupid internet's fault or not capturing my light-ness of discussion. My bad there, brother. The reason I brought up 1/4 mile times/0-60 times was because you said "fun". You said they were more "fun" and that's why I looked into more than just maximum handling capabilities. Thank you for informing me on those v6 and z/28 similarities. Way closer than I would have thought but I'm still coming up with 245's and 235's for the z/28, both on 16 inch wheels. That seems like not enough tire for the LS1..just sayin'. The point of weight distribution is handling capabilities. A Camaro with a v6 or v8 over the front axel is going to have a lot more weight over the front end than a BRZ with a boxer 4 tucked lower and further back. The BRZ and '98 Camaro will be night and day in corner carving.
  21. Wireless charging for cars would be phenomenal. It would completely eliminate the whole "fill up" process.
  22. @Drew Dowdell OMG thank you so much! I've looked for it on and off a few times knowing there had to be a delete or edit just because all of the different options for them. I just couldn't find it. Thank again!
  23. If it isn't news why are you continuing to talk about it? There are plenty of other threads with new news for you to discuss new-only things, if that is what your desire is. Because one is jacked up way more than the other. All we were saying is that vehicle prices in general and their capabilities have skyrocketed in the past 10 years. Prices have risen well beyond the rate of inflation and power levels are that of competition trucks/cars.
  24. I think what you meant to say was "Good range". Claimed sub 8.0 second sprint to 60mph and a top speed of 99mph are never related to "good power and performance".
  25. I built an Ecoboost Mustang Convertible and added everything I could(without adding the trunk mats, grocery net, and stuff like that) and it got up to just under 44k. That did include an auto trans and Performance Package along with whatever options package group was offered as well. The point was that cars are insanely priced and these massive trucks that are more capable than the driver's themselves can safely handle(or legally in the case of towing 30,000lbs).
