  1. Some things I'd like to add- First off, in all honesty, I'm not blown away by any of these cars. From the S Class to the CT6. If it were my money, and I HAD to buy one from this class, it'd probably be an A8/S8. Their powertrain combined with their gorgeous interiors would probably seal the deal for me. That said, I can't really justify spending the money these things fetch. They're slightly bigger/nicer versions of cars that already offer a ton of luxury and content. And better driving dynamics. I just feel like in the year 2015, your six figure halo luxury model needs to drop jaws and wow people. That doesn't mean it has to be extreme, but it needs to look expensive and have massive presence. And I don't think any of these cars do. BMW should have made the new 7 look like a 4 door version of their Gran Lusso Concept. Cadillac had at the very least be making whatever comes in above the CT6 look like either the Ciel or the Elmiraj. These cars should stop people on the street and make them envious and lustful. Not be mistaken for the model one, or even two, rungs below in the lineup. Somebody needs to step up drop a bomb in the segment. As for the interior argument, I still like Audi's interiors the best. I think they have the perfect blend of materials, design, and ergonomics. BMW's aren't amazing, but they're nicer than a lot of people give credit for. The materials may not match Audi and MB's, but they're still certainly as good or better than Cadillac's, and they're not plagued by that disastrous CUE. Truth is, all of them have plenty nice interiors, but none of them are really incredible. Regarding powertrains, a lot of fuss is made over I4's in this segment, but people just need to expect it is what it is. And it's inevitable. I don't have a problem with it, but I'd prefer it at least be paired with a hybrid system for some extra guts. I still wouldn't want one, however. Give me at least a boosted 8, or nothing at all.
  2. Porsche has the pace to win, it's just going to come down to whether they are reliable enough to go the distance.
  3. It's so sad what this brand has become. After the Lancer Evo, Eclipse, Montero, Galant VR-4, 3000GT, they've become this caricature of their former self. Shame.
  4. The later Bangle 7 was very good looking, imo. I think the outgoing car is also fairly attractive. Just a bit too restrained.
  5. If I were in the market for a new full-size, it'd be a GM or Toyota. Wouldn't even bother looking @ Dodge or Ford, unless I could afford a Raptor.
  6. Obviously all things being equal AWD will outperform 2WD. But with winter tires on even RWD, and regular all seasons on most AWD systems, the AWD vehicle is getting it's ass handed to it in the snow/ice.
  7. As long as it is outrageous and dramatic, I have no problem with this. I can only hope it has at least some semblance of off-roadability, like the Cayenne.
  8. Ever since I bought this 4Runner, I'm having difficulty in refraining from bombarding every backroad, mudhole, and incline I can find. It's kind of a problem....
  9. This 100%. RWD with snows on will embarass AWD with performance or plain all seasons. I have ran a total of 4 sets of tires on my Fusion Sport AWD before trading it in recently for another Fusion 2.0L AWD. I have owned many AWD vehicles, and even with tires that have barely any tread on them, I can still out accelerate ANY RWD vehicle on the road, regardless of what tires they have on. AWD works, rain, sleet or snow. Yeah, sure. I'll just ignore the laws of traction and physics based on your anecdotal evidence. If you did use the laws and physics approach, calculations would have to include a 2X factor for AWD that will typically trump any slightly greater coefficient factor as a result of tread compounds, tire design, etc. Especially when you consider the additional weight over the front wheels. But hey, you are a big boy. You can choose any approach you like So by your logic an AWD vehicle with race slicks is going to outperform a FWD or RWD with grooved/water shedding tread in the rain, simply because it has more driven wheels......gotcha. I don't think there's any else to be discussed here, carry on.

  11. So, I used to do these threads over at MT, and I think I'm going to start them back up here. The premise is simple. I'll post two or more vehicles and you decide which one you'd want. You can decide this based on if you were spending your own money, if they were free, however. The vehicles may all be in one class, or they may be totally different. I'll give a hint as to what is contained in the thread title. It sparks up discussion, it's fun to fantasize, and it takes some thought. So after some back story, here are your first choices- A piece over @ R&T made this a simple duo to start off with. Two vehicle that have battled it out for over 2 decades both on rally stages the world over, and the showroom floor. Yep, the Lancer Evo and WRX STi. Two cars with the same goal, and yet they have different ways of achieving it. So today I give you the choice of 2nd Gen WRX STi's- GD/GG (Bug Eye/Hawk Eye)- Or the Lancer Evolution VIII/IX (GSR, MR, etc) of your choice-
  12. Well, she got the right body style and a nice color combo at least. No way would I want this car as an auto. And before a bunch of people try to shove the 8AT down my throat, yes, I've driven. It's good. Not as good as PDK or DCT, maybe on par with the better applications of ZF's 8AT. Still wouldn't want one over a manual.
  13. ^Haha, wow. I wondered how long it'd be before I ran into one...
  14. So Dingo, Please reread the story above as this DOES NOT have the I6 but a lowly 4 banger that is transverse and being used to mostly go FWD but on slippage use the AWD system to work. Also if the SRX and Equinox suck so bad, then state facts please, do not just say it sucks unless you want to clarify it by saying some other personal pet peeve with the auto's. Please support and back up your statements with facts not just useless english words. I don't need to reread the story, YOU need to reread my POST. I understand this vehicle no longer will use an I6. I specifically stated 'current X1' in my post- the E84. Which is available with the N55. State facts? Okay. The interior is cheap, they're outdated, they're overpriced, and until the 3.6 got shoved in them, they were powertrain disasters. Hows that? If the interior is cheap then how do you justify these current interior images of the BMW X1 top and the SRX bottom pictures? BMW-X1-toSRX-Interiors.jpg SRX is equal and in my opinion far superior to what BMW does in their auto's. In regards to the power trains, the Turbo engine they put in the initial SRX version 2.0 was a very good power train just a bit thirsty. Perfect? No, but that did not stop them from out selling many other brands including the Germans. Maybe you should check one of my other posts where I also accused the X3 of being cheap inside. It's certainly no worse than the SRX though, and kills it in the driving dynamics department. The old Saab 2.8TT was mediocre at best. The 3.0 was underpowered. The 3.6 is decent.

  16. My favorite is prototype racing- LMP1, etc. I love the diversity, and seeing actual road car manufacturers battling it out. Plus, the tech that trickles down to production cars. I also like GT racing and DTM a lot. F1 doesn't excite me much any more, and stock car racing is a bore. Ditto drag racing.
  17. I don't expect much from Nissan. I highly doubt they'll have neither the pace of Porsche and Toyota, nor the reliability of Audi. That said it's really anyone's race. Anything can happen in 24 hours, and history has shown us more than once an underdog can pull it out from under the favorite. It'd be hard to bet against Audi with their track record, and yet Porsche and Toyota have to be close to ironing out their kinks by now. And they both have faster cars. AF Corse is sure to take out somebody on the way to their win. If Corvette or Porsche can't pull it out from under them. Which I hope they do.
  18. Way too early to call the car an M car beater. With the limited info we have so far, it looks to be slower. And seeing as in how there is no direct back-to-back comparison yet, the jury is still out on whether subjective criteria are better, and if so, by enough to be judged the better car.
  19. The reason people are talking about it is because of all the moaning and complaining from the German-Car humpers that the Cadillac CT6 will come in 2.0T base. It's just more of the double standards that the German fanbois play. The CT6 is the size of a 740i but weighs the same as a 335i xDrive. So even though the 7-Series dropped weight, the CT6 still weighs less. Well, I haven't seen any Euro fanboys, so Idk who he is targeting. I understand the GT6 weighs less than the 5 Series. But like I said, the current 5 Series is already not underpowered in N20 guise. After an inevitable power bump, the new 7 won't be 'horrible' with an I4 by any means. I don't think any of these cars should be offered with I4 non-hybrid drivetrains, but it must be done. Crying about it does nothing.
  20. That's like saying a 2WD Silverado is every bit the RWD system as what's in a 458 Italia. And it's simply untrue. The SRX, like other GM vehicles, uses the Gen 4 Haldex system. It is FWD biased, and does not have the same ability or feel as some other AWD systems, like some of those found in Audis. Most Audis (everything larger than A3/Q3) use traditional mechanical AWD systems with center torsen diffs. These have numerous advantages over systems like Haldex's. I was specifically referring to an XTS-V. While it was unquestionably more competent than the last SHO I drove, track ready it was not. I did say "almost". It needs bigger brakes and the more aggressive MRC programming available in the ATS-V and CTS-V.... The XTS-V starts at $63,000 and runs into the high $70k range. What, if anything, at BMW, Mercedes, or Audi will get you XTS-V performance in the same size package at that price? You can't do it. There is no more E550. A CLS550 will get you close on performance but doesn't have the room. An S550 may have the room and performance, but also costs and entire Chevrolet Malibu more. The story repeats at BMW where you can get a 550i but sacrifice the space or get the 750i and spend $20k more. Fair enough. As for German equivalents to the XTS, there are none. GM did this intentionally. And it was a smart move. But drive an XTS and an A6 3.0T back to back, and it is readily apparent where the money goes. It's not a strike against the German brands that they don't have an expensive sedan based on a mainstream offering that steps on the toes of their other offerings. But I digress.
  21. I frequent this site, so I'm not sure how I missed this. Pretty decent read. The writers there are usually way too biased in favor of BMW. I've incited a few nasty responses for not accepting the falsehood that BMW is the Alpha and Omega without equal or competition. A lot of fanboys over there. That said, I'd personally still prefer the M3. If there an ATS with an LS7, it'd be game over though, and I'd be singing a different tune, CUE be damned.
