Caught a glimpse of this across from my shop today. Something about that baby metallic blue color just belongs on just about ANYthing Cadillac. Not sure on the year but I'm guessing a 67-68 year model. I'm sure @balthazar knows better than I do on this one. Regardless of the year though, just a super sharp ride. And in either situation, starting at $45K for THAT job is not enough when DC median income (on either scale) is 30% HIGHER than national average. I am honestly baffled that this has to be explained. The amount of money made is relatively to the overall cost of living where you live. $45K will go a lot further in the middle nowhere Kansas but not so much anywhere in or even around the beltway. It's not even close honestly. Those guys should be making considerably more given the nature of the job alone, screw where they live. That's my end point here.

And that is BELOW the median household income of DC, where almost all of those agents work. Not exactly top pay scale work in the beltway area. Just skip the part where an agents pay is not equal to the level of danger they potentially face everyday. Again, by the time those vehicles are actually replaced, they will be more than a decade old.

All of this!! Yes it is and I think you know the answer to that. Hell yes, it'll be hot but at least there you can legally have an "Arizona" tint on your car to mitigate some of that heat. You also know that some folks don't seem to care there either. My cousin had a loaded BLACK Tahoe with a BLACK leather interior that hardly ever spent time in her garage. Some folks are just nuts there lol, us my point. That interior will not stop most potential buyers there.

It should be noted that is a base model package and the 11 inch system is still an option.
-
You need to because I still see Crown Vics rolling around here lol. Furthermore, they are only producing 1800 of these over the course of nine years. Most of the current ones are at least a decade old with probably a ton of miles on them. See my above response. Also, again, this over the course of nine years so obviously the first 200, in the first year, are going replace the oldest models and not the four year old models. By the time year nine rolls around, those four year models are now thirteen years old with a ton of miles and wear and tear. This is a common sense move, believe it or not. Is it wasteful? On some level, sure, but that doesn’t mean that they won’t need to be replaced. These are specific use vehicles and a lot of work go into them.

Or it's because the fleet was in immediate need of updating and since there are not going be any EV equivalents for at least a few more years (at best), it made more sense to go with what was already available. Just common sense to me and has not one thing to do with "sound bites". The next round will be all EVs, once the next batch of SUVs are worn out.

Agree on every front and thanks.

That one stung more than any other celebrity death for me, for multiple reasons. Even though he died by suicide, it was because of Lewys Body Dementia, which is what killed my dad four years ago. Nevermind the fact that William was and is still my all time favorite comedian.

A damn shame.

Simple would have been keeping the GL moniker instead of just adding one letter for the seemingly hell of it.
-
He doesn’t even have the model right. It’s the GLS580 (there is no longer a 550 model) which starts at just under $100K it does offer rear seat massagers as a $4500 option. Not sure where the MT article got the “segment first” for the Navigator from.
-
Exactly my point above but clearly he doesn't see the irony in his statement.
-
The damn near $200K gussied up GLS better have rear seat massagers and autonomous capabilities. Meanwhile, the less than $100K Navigator will have them both. If you don’t see the problem with your statement here, then I don’t know what else to tell you.

Where did he mention anywhere in his post about Rivian having a 5 ft bed? Again, you're trying to create a debate where there isn't one. I'm pretty sure he is aware of their bed length. Maybe it's you that should re-read his post. Yet that always seems to be your point of emphasis when touting the ability to "properly" haul a 4x8 ft sheet of plywood.

There's nothing to agree with here as you were trying to conflate my argument about GM interiors from the start because of one particular quote while ignoring the entire context of what I was saying to begin with.
-
The above quote I pulled suggests otherwise. You also, again, have to consider context. For all of their flaws, they were built with a purpose, which was mostly performance, while companies like Cadillac and Lincoln seemed to have no purpose at that time. It was a sad time for both companies.
-
That issue is not unique to just journalists. That has been proven in spades here.
-
@oldshurst442--Read this quote and tell me that wasn't criticism of European cars back then. Given how beloved the E30 is now, it's hard to believe that when the second-gen BMW 3-series launched, it was received with critical apathy. https://www.caranddriver.com/features/a28938639/what-to-buy-1987-1993-bmw-325i/ Sometimes we see only what we want to see because our bias won't let us see anything else. We also seem to forget the absolute $h! that was the 1980s domestic car market. The reason why the Europeans were getting praise at the time was because companies like Cadillac and Lincoln were producing utter garbage without any focus on things like performance (which was a focus for the Germans then, whether you want to admit it or not) during that time. Name one Cadillac or Lincoln that was being mentioned in the same breath as say, the first M3 or Benz AMG? Don't get me wrong. You could not give me ANYTHING from that era that didn't say "Buick GNX". The Germans, for all the praise heaped upon them at the time, were unreliable and notoriously temperamental. That again, does not change the fact that the domestics were even were in some regards. That is just a simple fact and we should be thankful that is no longer the case. End rant.
-
Which does not change my statement about GM interiors over that same period. I know European cars were s*** in that regard but this whole discussion started with the new interior of the upcoming Chevy Silverado. Not BMW. Not Mercedes. Not Audi. Not anything else. Just Chevy (and by extension, GM). Everything else mentioned afterwards was deflection and cherry picking like I was talking to SMK and I'm not taking that bait. Folks need to just settle down and pay attention what was actually said from the start instead of assuming intent halfway through said discussion. But it was still a fact to point out how far power has come over the last five decades. It's really that simple. If you're going to assume that everything is just negative thinking, then that's all you're going to get.
-
He also needs to consider that I am not just basing my argument from the opinions of journalists. He is also getting hung up on the one and only negative thing I've said about GM and that is their proven cheap looking interiors. I said what I said and I stand by it, end of story. At least GM finally had the good sense to recognize what damn near everyone else already knew. And it's not a "reflex reaction" @balthazar if they make pretty much the same basic criticism for the last thirty plus years.
-
It can be both and for different reasons. It is the truth that GM has lagged in the interior department for decades. It’s opinion to say a dash feels greasy. This is not a one or the other situation here.

I won’t lie. I would have been all over a 2nd gen Magnum but sadly, we live in America where the word “wagon” is apparently a naughty word.
