Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
So when parents haul around a bunch of kids that requires the use of the third row of seats, cargo space is not important? That’s what I’m getting at. These smaller CUVs provide this “carry all the kids” gimmick (because no reasonable adult will sit back there) while sacrificing all the cargo space that comes with it. It is just dumb and most dealers count on folks not bearing that kind of thing in mind. If you even think you’re going to need to haul five or six kids around (while not wanting to drive a behemoth Suburban), there are these things called minivans that will carry all of those kids and your stuff oh but they’ve become “passé” so lord knows Janie soccer mom can’t be seen in an Odyssey or a Pacifica. Got to have that look Even is function be damned.- 72 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB

Not to nitpick here but if any friend asks me to sit back there, I’m going to tell them “no” and that’s being nice about it. It’s absolutely a marketing gimmick IMO when it comes to vehicles this small. About your “food flat” remark, you missed the point of my statement. If you load it full of people, third row and all, then you have no room for stuff. I see this type of nonsense all the time. People want the look but don’t think about real usability and function. That’s all I’m going to say about it because these type of vehicles are not for folks like me anyway.- 72 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB

Which is what I figured but it comes off as a marketing gimmick in a CUV that size. I wouldn’t even put children in the back of similar size CUVs with third row seating. The other issue with it is that almost completely kills the cargo room in the back. Dad-“Okay, I got all five of the kids in the Benz for the trip” Mom-“So where do we put all the luggage?”- 72 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Mercedes-Benz
I guess but I have tried to sit in some of these smaller three row vehicles and they are utterly useless. Even if they have the Asian market in mind, they could have just as easily left that off for the American market. People here demand a little more “head” room than what that will probably offer.- 72 replies

Mercedez Benz News Mercedes Introduces the new GLB

You forgot to mention less reliable (which is the biggest selling point of the RX btw) and in a smaller class of CUVs (the RX is 11 inches longer). Guess you can add less room than the RX as well. That has to make me wonder. Why does a shorter CUV even bother with a third row seat? Should make human heads happy but I can’t imagine anything larger than that wanting to occupy that small space (thinking older Highlander 3rd row here which was equally unusable).- 72 replies

Yet another FWD CUV with a weak engine offering. Is this Mercedes or GM? ?- 72 replies

Industry News: Trump's Tariff Threat Turned Out To Be A Farce
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Industry News
True but again, I was speaking in general terms. I tend to tune out the extremist posts because it tends to be devoid of actual facts and isn’t based on reality (more like it supports a certain idealism mindset). I have family members that deal with life that way and I do not deal with life that way so we just don’t see eye to eye on political and social matters. If extends to the internet community as well. Too much “radicalized” thinking with no room for moderate compromise mindset for my taste. -

He brought up “alt-right” because it’s in my signature. It was unrelated to what I was talking about here. Alt-Right, in general though, is pure extremist fantasy land BS IMO but that’s a subject for another time at another place. -

I’m all for it but some folks will just continue their pattern of confirmation bias and general mudslinging while offering no real substance to the subject(s) at hand. Then you have the extremists that really ruin everything. -
Industry News: Trump's Tariff Threat Turned Out To Be A Farce

Which has not one thing to do with what I said in my post. What is in my signature is merely my thoughts on a particular subset of folks and is not about anyone here. Why you think that relates to what I said is beyond me. Now if you just happen to be part of that subset of folks, then so be it but my creation of it has squat to do with you. You think too highly of yourself if you actually think that. -
Funny. I LOL at posters who continually troll threads about cars or subjects they claim to have no interest in yet can’t stop going to even when they say that they are done with it. Oh the irony.

Offer something of substance @ocnblu because while you “laugh” at the post of others, those others are clearly laughing at you and those obvious partisan blinders. Maybe getting off your knees and wiping your mouth off would be better than swallowing every ounce of Trumps lies and nonsense. Not holding my breath but one can always hope that you actually want to discuss matters of importance instead of trolling the discussion nonstop and serving up snide and unrelated comments with the goal of basically insulting anyone who dares to point out the endless steam of bull$h! coming out of Trumps mouth. You’d think his supporters would get tired of the snowballing quite honestly. -

Of course he’s the one that came to your mind. There were others but only Obama was worth mentioning right? And you have the hypocrisy to mock folks who go after Trump? -

Must be why Trump was trying to nominate himself for it in regard to his “great” work with N. Korea. Would it be great then? And you can let go of the blindness. There were reports months ago regarding Mexico beefing up support at the southern border and were keeping more folks back. Detentions were up months ago as well. Don’t get sour at everyone else just because you were fooled by the man behind the curtain. Remember. The truth isn’t the truth. Whatever you have to tell yourself. Once they decided to slap that AMG brand on a FWD CLA, that was the end of any legitimate discussion about brand exclusivity. Doesn’t matter what lap times they got in the ring when they just slap it on any model they feel they can milk a few more grand out of. Doesn’t mean they are all “legit”. Honestly this discussion just gets old. Always the same crap about the Vette, Cadillac, and GM in general not being up to a Mercedes fanboys “lofty” standards. We will just skip the fact that Benz should be ashamed that cars like the Vette shame the majority of German cars for far less coin but hey, that “dime store” interior.
-
And the bar gets kicked over once again. From your “platinum” excuse to this sports cars nonsense, the only one who seems that “concerned” about it is you. And funny how you bring up GMCs use of Denali when Mercedes is whoring the AMG name like they’re working a Vegas street corner. More of that fanboy hypocrisy showing.
-
@smk4565You also missed the point about my Phaeton reference. GM never did and still has not done that. Chevrolet hasn’t had one sedan with more engine and more performance than Cadillac. Go ahead and say that they do with the Camaro and Corvette but that would only be applicable if Cadillac had a sports car. Hell, I think Benz is more guilty of mixing up their message. “Hey, if want luxury, buy this Mercedes” ”If you want luxury, but this Maybach” Which one is really luxury?
-
Thanks for proving my point. (Notices bar being kicked once again as different standards are applied to Daimler vs. GM).
-
“Luxury trim level”? What’s this? Their third attempt at trying to market Maybach here? They tried to play with Rolls Royce in the early 2000s and got their hand slapped for pushing out these glorified S Class cars and Daimler pulled the plug. They tried yet again to market them against the big boys and the plug was pulled yet again. Now Daimler thinks they can do the exact same thing but just call it a “luxury” trim level is the already supposedly luxury S Class? Do you see where this is going yet or does it need to be spelled out for you? You spend day after day going after GM and Cadillac while maybe uttering two words about the even bigger debacle known as Maybach. It’s kind of old at this point.
