Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
That horse is pretty dead right now. Perhaps you should stop beating it. We get it. Meanwhile the entry level four banger on the 255 HP 2020 GLE also requires premium but shhhhh...we don’t talk about that. -

But but, that gas mileage! What about the gas mileage dfelt? It’s 2019! LMAO! Yeah the last car I had with great MPGs was my first new car which was a ‘92 Tercel. Got mid 30s in town and about 45 mpg on the freeway. -

No ccap. It’s just not always necessary. What you also have not considered that clearly the GX is not a high priority right now for Lexus. Their core market clearly prefers car based CUVs. However, that does not take away from the fact that this ancient model is still very reliable and fills a certain niche even though it is butt ugly. The looks are clearly the big issue here because their sales are weak while it’s 4Runner platform twin still sells like hot cakes and it is running on a similar ancient powertrain (just in V6 form). Trying to sell at as an off-road champ hurts it as well but most Lexus buyers just aren’t into that kind of thing and those that are would probably just opt for a loaded and proven 4 Runner. This was made clear from the get go but you took it a completely different route while you so busy defending SMK. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
The “30 mpg” remark was meant as a joke because the way some have complained on here you’d think that was the new norm with CUVs and SUVs. -
One article has it positioned between the Soul and Sportage which would at least make some sense.

Some people don’t see that though. All they see is a SUV that uses an “ancient” powertrain and doesn’t get 30 MPGs everyday. They have a hard time fathoming that some folks actually don’t care as long their SUV is trouble free. Yeah who would have thought that reliability was such a big deal for some folks. I mean who wouldn’t want to have all the great new tech that ends up needing unnecessary service but $h! breaks. We are only talking about a formula that has worked for Toyota and Lexus for three decades now. -
Cadillac News: 2020 Cadillac CT6 Makes Big Price Moves
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
I think you are correct with that. Cadillac runs mid pack in the depreciation group. Some individual models do hold up better than others (pretty much like that with all makes though). -
Okay. That’s where I was getting that info. It would make sense to offer it though. It is also appears to similar to the Kona in size (to my understanding anyway) and it offers AWD. Guess we will see in the future.
-
As Drew said, smaller than the Soul and also with AWD if I’m not mistaken. The Soul is Kias best seller. They are not replacing it anytime soon especially since they just released the all new model.

Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?

Yet you sidestepped that whole reliability part at the beginning with your “old isn’t reliable” remark which is what I pointed out from the get go. Only today have you actually acknowledged what everyone else already knew. And I don’t think anything in the slightest as far those two are concerned other than, once again, the GX is probably the more reliable of the two. Your assumptions here are unfounded nonsense. And, errrr, the GX shares its bones with the 4 Runner which explains why its doesn’t have a newer engine unlike the much newer CUVs mentioned. Duh. They did change the engine from the 4.7 to the 4.6 so you are not correct on your “since 2003” remark which means that they changed it about as often as Mercedes changed the G-Wagon. A some folks cry about hypocrisy. -

“Fact” not “face”. Good grief autocorrect and fat thumbs lol! -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
And SMK will use the “old isn’t reliable” remark as long as it can’t be used against Mercedes. See how that works while you whine about “hypocrisy”. LMAO that you even went there. The fact is, and this has been pointed out my multiple people here, is that the average Lexus buyer isn’t as concerned about horsepower as much as they are reliability. You and SMK have sidestepped that little face throughout this whole thread while trying to pick apart everyone else or just move the bar entirely. Boo freakin hoo. -
Cadillac News: 2020 Cadillac CT6 Makes Big Price Moves
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Cadillac
Way to completely miss the point. The point being that all luxury cars, from Infiniti to Cadillac to Mercedes, have $h! resale value. Just though you may have missed the fact the Benz suffers the same devaluation fate as the rest of them. For the record, the Q sells for 3,000 less than the E Class while offering a V6 standard (with 100 more HP) as opposed to a 241 HP turbo 4. Just sayin’ -

And proving his trolling tendencies once again while answering not a damn thing. You say “sure do” yet you don’t actually offer said proof. More trolling I guess. Feel free to make another whimsical comment while lying about what you just told me not even a day ago. It’s what children do. Hey ccap, I mean SMK. Pay attention. I never said all things old were reliable. I gave you two perfect examples ones that were though, including the one of which this thread is about. If you’re going to move the damn bar like that, just say so I’m advance. And based on your GX logic why would anyone have paid six figures for a German Jeep that had not changed (for the most part) for three decades? Again, you fail when you single out something you don’t like while ignoring the one you do like. For the record, that ancient GX gets better MPGS than that $125K G-Wagon. Surely the “best or nothing” can do better. -

Exactly. Spending even a short amount of time at a dealership will prove that. Do you have actual proof to the contrary? I’m betting not. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
“That would be any vehicle” Fiat begs to differ and if any vehicle were capable of it the there would be tons of them available. Alas, there is not because companies put together crap engines while some put together crap transmissions. Some screw up both (see older Dodge 2.7L models as an example of this. -

You again, did not read everything. I stated that it was over a five year span. Good grief. Pay attention next time before clicking that quote button. Since you want to pick on the source. Here’s another one (market watch but the information comes from Kelly Blue Book). You have been living under a rock if you don’t know that 4 Runners are habitually at the top of those lists almost every year. https://www.cheatsheet.com/money-career/suvs-actually-worth-good-money-after-5-years-on-the-road.html/ Do you get it now or do you have yet another pointless semantics laden argument to make while ignoring the initial discussion in the first place (SMKs assertion that “old isn’t reliable”)? For gods sake, pay attention. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
Exactly my point. The sheer number of both those and 4 Runners for sale with 200k+ miles on them while still looking in good shape is a testament to their long term durability. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
Hand built low volume with a much higher cost of ownership. This has also already been explained to you but apparently you just ignore the evidence like SMK does when it doesn’t suit your argument. That’s the last I will say about it. Math. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
No. You’re deflecting from what I was saying. You didn’t pay attention to the original discussion and that’s my point. You also ignored all the factors that got you to that number because again, you have an affinity for the G. It doesn’t change a thing I’ve said it does nor prove anything against what I was telling SMK. Since you brought it up though, this after five years of ownership. Notice not ONE Mercedes on that list. Like you said, just here doing maths. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
And the Toyota and Lexus do it better than most of not all because they are reliable, which for the last time, was where the discussion started when SMK stated that “old isn’t reliable”. Your selective use of cAPiTal LEtTers does not change this fact just because you have a affinity for a German Jeep. It should be considered sad and laughable that it takes a low volume hand built SUV to be considered valuable or reliable from a brand that otherwise is the exact opposite in 10-15 years. “Best or nothing” right? And I’ll take this bulletproof SUV in this color please. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
Hand built cars are the very definition of the word “scarcity” and by nature are low volume and that is what helps them retain any value they have. Not sure what you’re not getting but I’m not going to explain it any further. And please pay attention to the images below because is what I was telling SMK in the very beginning before it moved on to the used market. This “old” GX has the best resale value of any midsize luxury SUV. I would sure as hell take it over the GLE which is what it competes with. As far as the G Wagon, all things considered (like cost of ownership of a hand built SUV), I still wouldn’t have even if money were no object. If I wanted a 4x4 brick on wheels, I’d just buy a Wrangler Rubicon, that has 95% of the Gs off road ability, for a third of the price and call it a day. It is just not my cup of tea. Honestly, if money were no object and a I wanted a 4x4 SUV, I’d buy a loaded 4 Runner TRD and never look back. -
Lexus News: Lexus GX 460 Gets a Face..... Lift?
surreal1272 replied to Drew Dowdell's topic in Lexus
Look at the mileage of the two before you make that statement and bear in mind that a loaded GX was about $46K new. Fact is that is shameful that a six figure low volume SUV isn’t as reliable at the other two nor does it hold its value as well considering the factors I’ve already mentioned. If you want to ignore those factors because you fancy them, knock yourself out. Just don’t expect me to share that same enthusiasm. Again, I’m case you missed the first time I’ve mentioned it, the G-Wagon only has its scarcity to hold its value whereas known reliability keeps the value of the GX and especially the 4 Runner high by comparison while all three were running on ancient powertrains which SMK asserted doesn’t mean its reliable.
