  1. Getting rid of brands is exactly what GM shouldn't do right now. Make all the brands strong and the company will be stronger and more efficient as a result. GM has a huge task ahead. This guy should stick with the website and not actually be part of the automotive word in a physical sense..(i.e. he should not be involved in any automotive company at all)
  2. The Yetti skit is hilarious. Best one.
  3. Or, they'll just ship the Opel tuned ECOTEC engines over and place them in the Astra. If not that, then they'll at least start building those engines here and offer them for a variety of models.
  4. Actually, Saturn will eventually sell American Opels. Right now, both brands are slated to have the same styling but now hearing that the Astra name will make it across the pond to Saturn and the SKY and GT are exactly the same, it looks like the vehicles may be closely related if not the same vehicles. If GM were to drop a brand today, Pontiac would definately get the axe. Now, if we wait for the new Zeta sedan and GTO to arrive, it might be a different story.
  5. The question: Is all this retro going to help or hurt GM in the long run? I think if they do have slight heritage cues but maintain a modern design (i.e. the new Cadillacs) they would be much more successful.
  6. Who cares. Once the Enclave comes out, they'll sell like hot cakes and shut magazines like Automoblah up.
  7. Looks like GMI beat us to the punch. Not very inventive though.
  8. GM would be idiotic to leave Saturn without a compact sedan for any amount of time. Even though the Ion sells poorly, it's still a big chunk of the brand.
  9. The Statesman probably won't replace the Lucerne but will be ranked above it. A reason for that... it's RWD and the normal Buick customer (68+) may not like having a RWD vehicle as their only option. Would I like the Lucerne to be replaced? Hell yeah... but I don't think anyone should be alienated from the brand.
  10. The reason for Lexus taking so long to reach 10,000 is because people in Europe who buy luxury vehicles are extremely loyal to European brands. Also.. take a look at the new Escalade interior. It's not just better then previous GM interiors. It's pretty damn luxurious and attractive. The only thing that I don't approve of is the cheap looking radio unit. They could've at least change the color of it. I'm sure GM is going to give the new Cadillac vehicles the interiors that everyone is hoping for. It's just going to take a while.... unfortunately.
  11. um......... can you see something we can't?
  12. Too expensive to be built here and for Chevy.
  13. Love the two tone colors.
  14. Woo Hoo! Finally.
  15. Thai please.
  16. Ah.. I thought you meant it in the literal sense. Well, then... I guess I'll just move along and pretend I didn't say anything.
  17. Even though you're right, the SKY offers much more the the Solstice can in terms of materials and looks.
  18. Ugh... back to old habits I see. These rebates may not be as widespread, but it's still showing that GM is producing more cars and trucks then it can sell and that most of the cars they are making are undesirable to a lot of the buying public. Changes are coming.. but not fast enough. GM needs to speed it's Epsilon II and Zeta programs forward GMT-900 style.
  19. By cheap.. I don't mean as in cheaply made. Far from it. But when you compare other cars in it's class (viper, porsche, etc.) , it is the cheapest you could buy but it also happens to be the best bang for your buck. Prove me wrong if you can. The Corvette itself, is very different from the Chevy brand and always has been to the point where it shares nothing (platform, styling) with the other cars. I don't know why.. but that's the case. I'm not making an argument.. I'm just stating the truth. The reason why the Corvette doesn't move to the pontiac brand is the same reason why Saab fans complain when GM develops an SUV or an AWD vehicle for the brand or why people loyal to Cadillac complain about a rebadge Cavalier...Those vehicles aren't true to each brand's heritage. People are concerned about brand history more then anything. You may not be.. but there are a lot of people out there who are especially on this site. oh.. and when you call other people's opinion's rubbish like you did with Flowmotion's post, that can be considered by some as disrespectful.
  20. I don't see a problem. They're replacing the ION with the Astra (name and all). I'm definately not complaining.
  21. Congrats. Now, you can start writing your own articles for the site and do your own research now that you have the official title.
  22. Wow, looks like the battle for the hard-top convertable compacts is just beginning in Europe and they all look equally hot. The Focus hard-top, the Eos, and the Astra hard-top to name a few will all be entering the European market if they haven't already. Certainly interesting times across the Atlantic.
  23. Who wants to bet the amount of days someone writes an article saying that these numbers don't count and GM is doomed to eternal damnation? The truth is, GM knew that the new SUVs were going to face a lot of obsticles: The high fuel prices, the growing anti-american auto bias in the press and in the general population, Toyota devoting more money to it's large truck platform, etc. Remember a lot of people ( a few here) were blindly yelling GM to cancel these trucks before they even saw them because it was going to be a "waste" of money. Looks like they were wrong again. The trick to making a car sell well.. is making it look attractive and making it a car people will actually like to own without any regrets. These SUVs so far seem to run over all the obsticles.
  24. welcome regalguy01. It's nice to see more people under the age of 75 let alone 30 who like Buick. We have a few people like you so you'll have a lot in common with a lot of our members if you hadn't already found that out yourself. It must be really rough seeing all the great Buicks being built overseas and being a fan of the brand. It's tough for me and I'm not even a fan.
  25. I'm sure the US/Canadian buick dealers are salivating. This is exactly what Buick NA needs to become a legitimate Acura/(lower-end lexus) fighter. This car is supposed to be designed to fit the tastes of Chinese buyers but I think it would do great anywhere. The Lacrosse and Lucerne pale in comparison to it. Will China bring it? Probably not until Cadillac can improve their cars even more to prevent loss of sales to a car like this. It's must be good to be living in middle-class China right now. All these companies are devoting money to great products for them and the country is on a verge of a economic boom that will turn China into a powerhouse.
