  1. I'm a big time classic video game collector, with NES and SNES being my specialty, and not even I would pay that for a gold copy of the Nintendo World Championships cartridge. It was a giveaway from Nintendo Power Magazine; if anything I'd rather spend 1/8 the price and get one of the ~117 gray copies that was actually used in competition play. At least then I have a chance of buying it off the original owner who would have been a regional winner for their age group. But even then, I'd probably just have my fun with it and send it down the road to another collector. I'd rather have the money than a game I'll only play once or twice that probably three other people in the entire world will be impressed by. I even cringe at the thought of spending the money I'll need to get my hands on a copy of Stadium Events, the rarest North American NES title, which, if anybody has laying around, is worth a good chunk of change to me. Go check your basements and closets and attics!
  2. This story reminds me a lot of the transsexual MBTA subway driver in MA who recently rear-ended another train pulling into a station because he/she/it was texting. I think the best news headline I saw regarding that one was "Texting Tranny Totals Trolley." People need to be a little less fixated on their phones and a little more in tune with their surroundings. A little would go a long way in terms of preventing pointless accidents like this from happening.

    Rust Chevrolet

I agree that tough decisions need to be made when stuff gets like this, but it's still a shame. It's too bad things weren't different so a place like this could keep plugging away like it did for 94 years.
  4. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/07/11/...lUpperPromoArea A small-town Chevrolet dealership is told to close, and the town it calls home will probably go with it. Another piece of America's past is gone forever. I bet everyone in town has at least one of this dealership's cars in their driveways.
  5. The guy's initial complaint about not being able to have a nice driver '61 Impala convertible is that they cost about $20-25K. So after spending years of his life and over $100K making a worthless turdbucket worth the $25K he supposedly couldn't afford (see the later pages for every braking and suspension component imaginable, fuel tank, etc. being chrome plated) AND doing the rat wagon as a side project at added expense, why couldn't he have bought a much better starting point and been on the road years earlier for tens of thousands of dollars less? Don't get me wrong, I definitely admire the guy's handiwork, but talent aside, he's still a retard.
  6. Took a slightly different route to go get my lunch today and found a '65 Grand Prix on four flats rotting away in a driveway 1/4 mile from where I work. Sad.
  7. There was a guy around here on craigslist that had I think either a '74 or '75 Luxury LeMans four door (same basic car) with a three on the tree that he couldn't give away. It had like 35K on it and the lowest I saw it get down to was $800. In retrospect, I should have probably gone for it.
  8. Sad to hear as I remember being a kid when he was on top of the world, but it may be a blessing in disguise. A tortured soul (by himself and others) is finally at rest.
  9. I really wish I had my '71 Coupe DeVille back: I drove the wheels off this thing, even though I only owned it for a few short months.
  10. The 'Burb is still going strong at 255,000
  11. I did my time in driving school in a Cavalier, but have seen other driving schools with the new Mustangs which is kinda cool. I almost wonder if the owner of the driving school chooses their own car, which is why you'd see something like that amidst a fleet of garbage.
  12. Kept the B-bodies around, if nothing else but for fleet sales. There was no need to hand that entire segment of the market to Ford on a silver platter after '96. Ask a cop that's been around for a while if he/she has driven both. If they have, ninety-nine times out of a hundred they'll wish they had their Caprice back.
  13. Best thing I ever did was move up to New Hampshire from the Republic of Dukakis. Hopefully the increase in revenue from additional ASSachusetts shoppers will allow the NH state government to start chipping away at the high property taxes we have up here.
  14. Ummm it's funny but are we supposed to feel bad about his experience by reading it? So what if he pissed away a few hours of his life and a tank of gas to see it. Nobody held a gun to his head and made him buy it once he got there and saw it was a complete turdwagon.
  15. Needs a proper bed; cutting the roof off a sedan looks cheesy. Save the rear fenders and fabricate a new bed and it'll be looking good then.
  16. Sunday morning I helped my father work on his boat, then we all went back to the house for an afternoon cookout and went out for an afternoon ice cream. Monday me and the girl went down to visit my folks again and we all piled into dad's Packard and took a ride to Woodman's in Essex, MA for the best fried seafood on planet Earth. Then a nice leisurely ride up the coast and another afternoon ice cream. All in all a great weekend; would love to do the same some day in my own antique vehicle!
  17. Wonder how much he wants for the green '67 next to it......
  18. Very, very tempting, but unfortunately I'm going to have to pass.........
  19. How much?! I can't see craigslist at work! If it's not a complete turdbucket I could drive it while ever so slowly redoing my '67........
  20. Wish I could come across such a thing; the girl wants to learn to drive a stick, wants a 4WD for the winter, and likes this generation of Blazer/two-door Tahoe. Such a machine in my neck of the woods would kill many birds with one stone.

How old? I'd be interested in the Tonkas if they were pre-1965

Nice collection. Got any old pressed steel stuff in all of your stuff like I have? If so, are you looking to get rid of any?
  23. Love old buses. In my retirement I'd love to restore and convert an old Flxible Clipper or General American Aerocoach or some other streamlined bus into a motorhome and travel the country.

The Allied moving van is a Tonka from 1958 and the Texaco tanker is an early 60's Buddy L. My favorites of that particular grouping are the Allied moving van and the 1948 Doepke Adams road grader underneath it.

Don't think I have any pictures of my big toys that you all haven't seen already, so here's a small portion of my collection of antique pressed steel trucks & construction equipment that I have in my living room: I get a kick out of these things every time I sit on my couch and look at them. Wide whitewalls on a garbage truck (white truck on the bottom right)? Why not?! (P.S.- I'm always looking for more if any fellow C&Gers still have theirs and are looking to sell!)
