hmmm...this should all be dependant on when W-body stops getting produced and when Zeta starts up. I don't see GM spending money on a new front end or body for the car only to produce it for two years...

there really is heavy agreement with your original point, and this site got off its feet and landed where it is today thanks to dissent. Where do you think the tagline came from [biggest fans and toughest critics]. I really enjoy your posts, and pretty much agree with you on everything, and I'm sure there are many more. Keep at it, it's just that most of us got tired of dealing with the same members line and dance long ago. They know our stance, we have proven them wrong many times, but people don't give up on thier convictions easily. as for the article, I agree with those that are verifying the facts; it's one thing to criticise with an open mind. A truly open mind only comes from knowing the full, factual story.

This is not media bias. Just a simple report, and yes there are some in the media that hate domestic cars, or would never be seen buying one, just like the rest of the American public. Rightfully so, GM has produced crap for decades and many well-meaning people care about brand cachet. A car purchased is a reflection of one's self; let's say you're wealthy, an executive at a small Internet company and want to own a nice car your neighbors can know you spent good money on and your clients can feel comfortable in when you are toting them around, what do you spend your money on, a VW Passat or an Impala? Which will give off the right image you want to portray as a successful, business class person. I will wait until the final sales numbers come out before I get my panties bunched up; this report is no big deal and should be considered as such.

GM paid $2 million to have a Solstice blown up
turbo200 replied to wildcat's topic in Heritage Marques
MI:3 will be mostly crap too, what does that say about the Solstice? -
i believe this is the first "real" restructuring plan in a long time. The old-time GM think is gone, replaced with new efficinecy, world-wide leveraging of common products, and a new passion for creativity and breakthrough design. GMT900s needed to be replaced, and just happen to be coming in a time that the car line looks sparse. Saturn will heat things up, then of course the new CTS, aside from this we won't see the rest of the car lineup until W and G-body finally get replaced and Sigma gets a smaller, cheaper brother. The yes men are being filtered out, or have already been mostly filtered out, and GM has figured out it takes desirable product with a pulse on where the market is going and has been going are all it takes for a successful quarter. The real revelation is GM has finally admitted it is out of touch, and needs to be more successful in creating desirable product. It took a lot of time, and a lot inept decisions, but DESIGN is finally flowing again at GM.

right, and from what we can see of the Aura concept's interior, all its controls seem to be parts bin, but they are of the high quality variety from GM. The radio is the newest radio a la Impala, Lucerne, HHR, etc. That's not a bad piece. I just hope they keep the color and that the panels are all of a soft touch, substantial feel. The Aura from what we can see of it, is a pretty nice car. I would take it over the 9-3 for the added interior space [increased wheelbase, reat seat room]. 9-3 design is right up there with the Aura, but I like the Aura's aggressive feel overall. 9-3 sportcombi is a great looking car, this is certain.

The BMW puts the power to the groung much better through its rear wheels, and everything from the gear spacing, to the clutch takeup, to the clutch feel, to the axle ratio....is optimal for smooth and fast driving. That's the epitome of BMW. Drive one and you'll understand.

No one here is afraid of change. I can tell you everyone here is interested in what is best for the company, and not one of us would defer from making changes if we felt they were necessary. We are not here to bite our tounges. However, to remove Wagoner would be a symbolic move more than anything, as has been discussed here, and would not result in any great changes tomorrow. The problem Wagoner has is the last five years were horrible for product. And GM has had thirty years before that of bad product. This has tarnished thier reputation beyond the comprehension of a Midwesterner who doesn't venture out of his territory. GM, aside from trucks, is beyond relevance in California. This is a problem that must be fixed. It isn't going to happen with the current batch of products. That is the major problem they have had for decades now, having product that didn't appeal to the customer, in different ways. They are suffering the consequences of irrelevance now. In the entertainment business when someone is irrelevant it is as if their carrer is dead; for whatever combination of reasons, they stopped managing to entertain and stopped being desirable to the public. A comeback is only a few great songs or a great acting performance away, as many artists have shown. The same is clear for GM. None of this is due to Wagoner. The best product GM will have in decades, or ever, will be directly because of him. I am grateful for this time of droughts for GM that showed them just how arrogant and complacent they had become.

it's been confirmed here multiple times by insiders that the next gen DOHC V8 engines would be arriving in the Lambdas. First it was the UV8, until ah-ha confirmed that was cancelled, now the next gen Northstar appears headed for the trucks.

i tried replying earlier but didn't have the right words for ya. don't think i have them yet, but here it goes anyway, first i am glad you're still doing fine. you're a smart guy and obviously passionate about your car, thus your depression is understandable. this is after all a big accident, and in your first car, a really nice car at that [especially for someone young]. i think this experience and your resultant emotions will ultimately be good for ya

I am with the camp that believes Wagoner has already begun the process, and Lutz was an instrumental move in the process, along with massive global realignments, extreme cost-cutting efforts, etc. Product analysis from an outsider perspective is so limited--we have no idea who was in control of what, how dollars and programs mattered, supplier coordination, etc--there is simply too much involved in this damn process for one of us to stick the finger at one guy. Evok is in support of wagoner, that's all I need to know to know he is doing the right job and steering the company in the right direction, since from his analysis, opinion, and experience, evok has proved himself to be the one we should all try and emulate. This is not a soapbox thing or an identification game, simply there have been many reasons pointed out why we should believe GM is doing all it can to improve over the next years. Some of the things buickman and josh have said show them for just how silly they are....Josh, you've looked him in the eye? Who are you, Jesus? You know what's going on inside him? That's more than a little ridiculous man.

I leave for a few days, and we get the most activity in two weeks....back to page one!

UV8 is not happening anymore, it'll be an updated Northstar instead. Excellent article! I didn't realize all these debuts would be happening at NY, it's a great high profile way to revive a simple brand. This brand won't be so simple and free of excitement anymore. I am anxious to read the first reviews of the Aura and Outlook. That's a stunning photo up above, Aura is easily the best looking family non-luxury sedan out there.

I echo all that has been said...needless to say your contribution will be sorely missed. the little guys like me who share the passion around here will miss you.

It's good to have a realistic timeframe showing up. I have hope, because I've been lead there. I would like to hear now, if possible, from the other camp of this subject.....how do you come up with the notion that the car will be coming sooner than what is written here? aside from commonality with VE, and "things being worked on" since apparently, the reality is nothing is really being worked on aside from the suspension and framework for VE [and Camaro and Impala design proposals].

the larger roof opening has always been a good concept in my mind, but aesthetically it looks retarded open, and the sunroof does not retract completely leaving a complete open space a la real sunroofs.

I also don't think this will steal any sales from escalade, instead craft a segment of its own. the esclade has more competition from land rover and hummer than this.

the classic G-class will always have presence and style. it's really well done. the new gl-class...well i agree with bimmer in that the shots he posted above are terrible and really do make it look chinese and overdone. the ml straddles that line of being finely detailed and overdone, and does it perfectly, the looks are terrific. the gl with its extra length is less convincing. the shot variance posted is really flattering though. and yes, i see the Grand cherokee influence as well, i think it's mostly in the d-pillar and the overall shape of the greenhouse.

and this is what it all comes down to. supplier ramp-up, in my limited outsider perspective, takes some time, making '07MY [even late intro as discussed] downright impossible, and '08MY somewhat unrealistic. However, I respect both sides of this argument, and am glad both can co-exist. I come for the realism of the plan, but also for the possibility.

let's not turn this thread into politics. no offense against you, but it sounds like the start of a heated debate

I can't say the next girl I find will be the person I spend my life with. I like to use this line a lot, 90% of my happiness for the rest of my life will be determined by the person I choose, and if I am able to be the right Man for her depends largely on what I do with my time now. It's an incredible thing to look at......Aside from that though, I am certain I will look for the right woman, not just any, and I will hope sincerely that I will receive some kind of confirmation. Anyway, I don't expect this to happen within the next year, but I do think it will happen around when I am 23. Until then, I am having real doubts about my ability to abstain, and I am questioning, if it were done under the right circumstances, like thegriffon mentioned, in a "marriage", if I would be offending God. I think so, but I believe I would also be under the Grace of God, so I would ultimately be okay. ??

I'm in a church as well as friends with people who would look seriously down at this. I've never had a problem with this....it's simply for me and God. I can have others take offense and not worry, though I understand what your point is with regards to that problem. The problem is I wouldn't want to give them reason to judge me, not because I am worried about the judgement, because I would be worried of offending them with my own actions, since they seem to care so deeply that I don't do it. I could try and keep it my own business...I really don't know what will happen. But the logical side of me is calling out and saying it is okay for me to do it...I am young, strong, and in need of company more than anything. If that companionship, with the right person, evolves into something more would be left to time and fate. Though the issue would then become does this hurt my relationship with God, is He offended by it. Part of who I am, well, it would be very hard for me to abstain....I am a passionate person, and I would look for the right person, and I would look for all the good in her, and then I would fall pretty hard for it, and then, eventually, after some serious committment, it might go there. Thanks for the clarification.

the trouble is, this is a liberal way of thinking. there is a sanctity of God's confirmation of a marriage that the Bible describes that is not to be taken lightly...
