http://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/index...?showtopic=1422It looked great, and finally completely desirable, uncanny for a GM small car. I do think it would have been a little underwhelming by 2008 though. As it is, if this car were here today, its looks inside and out would put it at the head of its class in sales.

I agree that Bob Lutz is the catalyst this company needed to get back in gear. An outsider, with a take-no-prisoners attitude. Unfortunately, he wasn't given enough power in the beginning, thankfully, his intellect has been noted, and the sales have reached catastrophic lows, so something needed to change, drastically. Great article.

sorry, i must have emphasized the wrong things. i don't feel golf is dying, nor do i feel it isn't lucrative advertising. it's not a good target for buick in my estimation because the products just aren't there yet. when the products get to be velite levels of execution and design [enclave and the future]; then they will really be taking advantage of the money that they are pouring into the marketing. i don't believe it's a waste to be advertising with the PGA right now, but spending millions on Tiger at this point is imbecilic.

SATURN AURA RADIATES STYLE, REFINEMENT
turbo200 replied to Northstar's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
you are right. so everyone on c&G who previously used this excuse no longer can. i'm lookin at you fly -
can't read all your opinions yet, but Tiger Woods does nothing for Buick. Another wasted effort by GM. The cars need to sell themselves, and as has been touched upon many times by many here, Buicks just don't do that at this time. Millions down the drain, he does nothing. Neither does marketing with the golf tournaments. The market for current Buicks is pretty much this:senior citizens [no offense guys]. Though nice cars, average Buicks are very conservative in appeal and often meet the needs of seniors very well [though they should be piloting small-ish Volvos, or just anything that tracks really really well imo]. They are not the car for the avid golfer. If I were GM, I would put all that advertising money into development, since Buicks really sell to thier own audience and don't need much advertising, and golf and Tiger Woods just aren't working. When the cars finally are ready, I would pour the money back into advertising. Buick is languishing, not because of Tiger, not because of PGA, not because of lack of advertising, but because of poor ass cars. Build a better Lexus with the detailing of a Lexus and not REAL exterior presence, and then you'll have a hit. Underprice it, and it will sell.

I'm not surprised by the varied reactions here, but let's give GM some credit. They have taken one of our major complaints and addressed it, it is wonderful the 3.6L engine is making it to this car. Hopefully, some sales can be added as a result of the intro of a good engine. That being said, maybe next time you can get it right from the begginning, idiots. G6 is unfortunately already sour. It is not outated, yet, but it is fairly underwhelming now compared to what is out there, so the 3.6 being introduced just now is not really the thing it needs to improve upon sales. This is unfortunate, since I've always thought the exterior style had sporty flair, but as with any product launch, GM did just about everything it could to kill the inherent goodness of the design. Poor engine choices, poor interior design/quality, and a lack of overall flair in exterior trim. Where's the more aggressive fascia and lower flared rocker panels for the GTP model? How about a center stack with real presence? For God's sake, who is in charge of wheel design? Fire that motherf545! [GTP has great wheels though.] It's too little too late now, though pleasantly surprising. I'm glad the G6 will finally get this engine, but I'm pissed the engine lineup wasn't just the 2.4 and 3.6 from the get go. I'm even more pissed the future of Pontiac has been called into question again and again because this underwhelming car has performed poorly. Design the car right, engineer it right, from the first place, and you wouldn't have to kill all these cars! G6 will be truly successful if the new model debuts with a stunning exterior and interior. The engines, quality, powertrain, and handling will all need to be ahead of the competition to make noise. Otherwise, we can count Pontiac dead.

This is not disappointing to me in the least. We were told to expect this long ago and to await a different kind of replacement. It's not good that Saturn will have to soldier without a compact for a while---not good at all. GM must get the replacement out as quickly as possible. As mentioned above, the Brazilian Vectra would be ideal, until the NG Astra is ready.

New York: 2007 Suzuki XL7
turbo200 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
how does Suzuki get a version of Theta this nice? With the 3.6L DOHC? And a great quality interior with a progressive exterior design? This should have been our Equinox. I do see the Equinox doors and the Theta A-pillar. The front end looks like a better version of Ford's new theme. It won't stand out, but it looks thoroughly competent, unlike the previous XL7 which was just barely competent. -
the 3.9 making 227 hp is foolish. That engine/tranny, whatever, needs to be pumped up, especially with the meager fuel economy ratings. It's like when you look at the numbers, it's almost as if GM wants the car to fail.

New York: 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander
turbo200 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
the last one was not unattractive but it was definitely soccer mom/girly; this one at least has some tension and agression to the lines. I like, even though it is very derivative. Derivative is not what a company in Mitsu's position needs, unfortunately. -
NEW HYUNDAI ELANTRA
turbo200 replied to regfootball's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
I don't go to this site, kinda nice to see all the different colors of cars in a whole grouping. The Elantra interior looks pretty good, but the exterior, well I can see the reason for the above comments. -
The Aura needs better wheels and piano black
turbo200 replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
definite definite improvement. the wood trim is bad and does not belong. the piano black would cover the entire faces of the radio and HVAC controls as croc mentioned. -
I'm not a fan of the interior, but the bitching is not here likely because the Altima was already a very competent car. A few changes here and there, an exterior style refresh, and you've got a pretty much all new car that is once again as desirable as class leaders. The changes to the suspension will surely be good, and the exterior is crisp and winning. The interior is plain and has Accord vibes to it, but at least it's better than what was there before. The interior was never the reason Altima was successful: this car is all about power, looks, space, handling.

they most certainly are not rebadges and represent the pinaccle of branding: identification and product. they are both terrific and will sell well. the right advertising is the next step.

SATURN HAS AN ALL-NEW OUTLOOK
turbo200 replied to Flybrian's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
apparently you can't take what you dish out. nice jobs on the edits though and getting rid of the incriminating evidence, i'm sure the lapboy thing works around here well enough for you. this isn't productive in this thread, however neither is your disrespectful attitude towards everyone. you may have changed the wording, but your previous words stand clear in my mind, and are not these. get off your high horse and start acting like a member. -
amazing, nissan finally got the front end to be appealing. the exterior is all good. and the interior is an ambitious improvement, however its demure and reminiscent of Accord. In the family sedan category it will be at the top.
-
well, it's certainly much improved. I don't like that they played it safe though. The current one doesn't stand out, but I don't think this one will see the same fate. It might stand out for a year or two. CTS, Is, and 3 will easily dominate over this. I love the side sculpting, but hate the head on view of the rear that shares cues with Altima and Maxima, it looks bloated. The interior is much improved, though conservative as well.

New York: Scion FUSE Concept
turbo200 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
whoa, that's different. even though there is some influence of other cars in there, and i see camaro in the front, but it's very unique and cool looking. this would be perfect for the market it's intended at, from the front. the rear looks like its not prominent enough, and that c-pillar cutlines, something has to change there. other than that, it looks damn cool -
New York: 2007 Audi A4/S4 Cabriolet
turbo200 replied to Variance's topic in New York International Auto Show (NYIAS)
the new rear is perfectly fitting, however the front has too much mass for this vert's svelte lines. It complements the sedan well, maybe the width is different? the interior is perfect, as is VW interior design. -
it's the styling. the SI interior is incredible. come to think of it, it's better than most anything GM has, excepting GTO and perhaps a few others.
-
it looks too much like the outgoing altima now. it's lost its edge and character in pursuit of safeness and family resemblance. blah, even less sales this time around.
-
There's no good view of the only thing worthwhile that changed [aside from interior], the front end. It needed work, though the rear still looks bloated and ugly to me. The interior still sorta screams Nissan quality to me, and that to me is below Honda and Toyota. Especially with all the high gloss plastics everywhere. The styling is nice inside however.
