  1. Time to replace your hoe. It's probably loose and leaking fluids all over the place anyway.
  2. That may be the way to go. I could always get a used one then hang onto this one and try rebuilding it. Right now the weather is too sucky to do that kind of work though...so hopefully it'll last until spring. At least our driveway is on a hill, so gravity can be my Reverse gear. for the time being. Yep, the Merc
  3. Exactly! You can always get the door cheaper as more end up wrecked...and while you wait you've got "battle damage" like moltar said. I would like to know how the hell that damage ended the car up with a salvage title though.
  4. WANT!!! Almost all of the damage is isolated to the door! Throw on a new door, paint it and touch up the edges and good as new!
  5. A "slightly damaged" Dodge Challenger SRT8 with just 29 miles is up for sale on EBay. Here's a good question: is it worth $25,900 with a salvage title and no warranty? http://jalopnik.com/5141229/for-sale-one-s...les-on-odometer
  6. I agree, I love the nose...which was my big complaint about the normal Insignia...can't wait to see more photos.
  7. *has to keep in mind the labeling part*
  8. This new Cube is the result of a combination of meeting new crash standards and how to make the "iconic" shape new yet familiar...while running out of ideas beyond "lets round everything off, then finish it off with the latest Japanese trend of bulging headlights." It may sell well, it may not...this market is very tough since the "trendy" crowd (and old people) decided what is cool and what is not. All I'm saying is purely from a design standpoint this is a step backwards from the last gen...and I for one would rather have the Soul.
  9. That is quite handy. It may be an option to look into. The tricky part is, like you said, getting that sucker out. And this is a Ford, so it's probably secured in some obscure, annoying, unnecessarily complex way...the Ford way!
  10. 1.4L Still on Track for Volt and Cruze Yesterday it was reported that construction of GM's new Flint engine plant had been canceled, and with it the prospects of US built 1.4L engines for the Volt and Cruze. GM has since stated that while the construction contracts have been canceled, the engines are still on track to be built here. However, they are looking at various options, such as building the new engines in an existing plant. Since they have the extra capacity, the engines will be built in Europe until US production is ready. Follow the jump to learn more. http://www.cheersandgears.com/index.php?showtopic=27961
  11. Construction contracts for GM's new Flint, MI engine plant have been canceled, but GM tells us plans to build the new 1.4-liter four-banger powering the Chevy Volt and Cruze in Flint remain unchanged. Despite reports to the contrary, and despite construction contracts being canceled by GM, spokesperson Sharon Basel told us via e-mail the General's committed to building their new 1.4-liter engine for the Chevy Volt and the turbo version for the Chevy Cruze (above) in Flint: Additionally, Basel told the Flint News GM was examining all options — including using existing buildings on site. Our take is GM's looking to cut every short-term cost possible as they try to buy time until a federal solution arises to the Carpocalypse. For the moment, the most pressing vehicle to bring to market is the Chevy Volt. Given the initial low volume, GM will import 1.4-liter engines...err..range extenders from their European plant. The Chevy Cruze has been pushed off a year, so the need for the Flint engine plant to be built right now doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Thus the delay announced late last year. However, Flint should expect without further federal funds — or a pre-packaged bankruptcy of some sort — they won't be seeing that plant anytime soon. Source: Jalopnik
  12. 187,000 I don't know how well they serviced it. We had the tranny serviced when we bought it. I wish I knew how...I've never done something that complex, and I lack the tools to do it. On the bright side, the forward gears are still good, so for now we just have to make sure not to park it where we need to back it up to get out.
  13. Well see, I have something called common sense...a magical and apparently rare attribute that aloows me to determine the best course of action. For example: Problem: It's motherf@#king cold out. Solution: I shall wear a pair of gloves so the blood in my figures does not crystallize. Amazingly I've been able to pass the judgment for years.
  14. So this nasty ass f@#ker of a storm has claimed a victim. Apparently this morning my mom was trying to get out of the driveway, which was plowed in with now frozen snow and ice. Had it in reverse and was trrying to get out. I woke up and came out to help...teh car was out of teh driveway but now sideways on the icy hill. I'm the one who always gets to drive teh cars in winter weather, so it was up to me to get it out of the way. This was easy...I put in in reverse again, gentle on the gas, and slowly backed out to teh opposite side of teh street. Then I put it in first and went down the hill then around the block. Since the GM has snow tires I took it out to meet with my boss a few towns over. I park it in the lot and go to my meeting. I come out, put it in reverse, and...nothing...it's like I had it in park or neutral still. Repeated attempts to put it in gear proved futile. Naturally there was a Ranger parked in front of me...so my only option was to push the bloody thing on the icy parking lot backwards out of its space. Forward gears still worked so at least I got it out of there and to the mechanic, who confirmed my suspicion. Transmission = f@#ked. And they say Chryslers have weak trannies...this makes 1 Ford and one Toyota to 0 Chryslers...so far anyway. What a day.
  15. Ugh this morning was/is terrible. 8 inches of snow before it turned to ice and then rain yesterday, followed by a freeze up of everything.
  16. For anyone who is curious, just a refresher for how far backwards this redesign really is...
  17. I would prefer barn doors because it means no struts to wear out. However I'm not hardcore enough to turn down such a clean example if I were in the market for one.
  18. Well look at how Saturn's sales have been doing. Based on that, the based way to kill Pontiac is to give them Opels.
  19. This isn't exactly groundbreaking..besides the asymmetrical windows this box on wheels design has already been done. Also, I'm pretty sure neither BV or myself would consider ourselves "fanboys". We're critics of design...especially BAD design. As well, you are taking what we have said out of context...read both of our posts. No where did mention how we thought it would sell. We criticized it from a design standpoint and nothing more. I for one, do not appreciate it when people try to make assumptions and twist what I have said into something it is not.
  20. I think it's the front end at least one of the two trucks should have had. Not...oh...let's put a GMC badge on...completely different! Plus it looks far better and more integrated, IMHO.
  21. So GM plans to make EPII stick around for 91 years? Super.
  22. Our rail system sucks...pure and simple...it's outdated and poorly laid out.
  23. I'll check carpoint next time. If you have your set on it then can a deal on the late models for sure, since everyone including yourself seems to agree the reliability was pretty $h!ty in the early years but got better by the time production ended.
  24. I did a quick local search and both models can be had for around 6k full loaded.
