  1. [sorry I didn't reply yesterday, wasn't feeling good again, so went to bed after watching ABC's "Eli Stone". Feel better tonight ... so, again, trying to catch up on all of my boards ... yikes.] Yes. One spot in the driver's side door area, lower RH corner as you look at the door (near the backseat area)...if that makes any freekin' sense...lol. *grins* Why, thank you, Mr. Camino . Appreciate your compliment! Suddenly, I'm not liking him so much right now ... he he he. Hmmm....I'll comment below . BUT ... finding something in a little better shape for a little bit more also means he doesn't have to do much to it ... or, is that what he wants? Course, that ALSO means he has to take what he finds ... and doesn't have much room to change it as he pleases (depending, of course, on finances). Good ... and you are welcome! Hmmm...that IS nice, no doubt about it. But, not enough pictures for my taste. I have made it a point to NOT go take a look at a car I see online for sale, unless I see multiple pictures of it first. Been "burned" and "disappointed" one too many times, with lots of wasted time and fuel. Also ... see that first pic? Ask the current owner if it has been repainted/re-vinyl topped. I do NOT believe that emblem on the back is in the correct spot. Observe: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1976/76MC1007_02_JPG.html http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1976/76MC1007_01_JPG.html I'd have to dig out my 1973 MC brochures, but I'm 90% positive that the '73 emblem was in about the same spot as the '76. Those placements did not (as I recall, anyway ... maybe someone else will prove me 100% wrong, I dunno) change much....at least, not as much as it appears in that pic of that '73.... NOT trying to be a "downer" or a "red flag waver" here ... just pointing it out. Might mean "underlying" issues with that car, is all, if they, indeed, had it repainted and re-vinyled. If so ... (and I'm sure you know this) ... make sure you ask what and how all was done..... AS before ... KEEP US POSTED. *pauses* Now, if he goes with something other than a Monte Carlo ... he'll be hearing from me.... he he. 2. Holy crimeny, capriceman, how on earth did I miss this a week or so ago? Dangumit. Very sorry this happened to you. 13th and Gratiot? That's near where some friends of mine live, too. Aye. 4. Finally had the chance to look at a G8 up close. Stopped at another dealer on the way home ... and the saleslady walked outside with me and opened the car up so I could take a look at it. Didn't test drive it (no time), but sat in it and looked around. Impressive. Except ... read the brochure closer when I got home.... The V6 G8 is only EPA rated at 17mpg. How on EARTH is that possible? My '87 MC LS (305 V8) gets that consistently ... and sometimes BETTER (18-19mpg)..... 5. *shakes head* No no no no no...LOL! GOOD! Oh, lordy, have mercy. No offense, bud, but I HATE these type of "what do you think it is worth" questions ... because it is all relative, more or less. However, that written ... I don't think that '76 is in as good as shape as mine. I could be wrong, of course, but at least, in PICTURES, it doesn't appear to be. Reference: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1976/76monte.html (with some detail-oriented pics) I paid $4,000 for my '76 MC. From the pics, I don't think that green one is worth as much. Remember, though, that is my opinion. I don't know your Dad's budget, but I'd offer $3K and see what the guy says. *shrugs* I suspect others will chime in with "no way" or something...I dunno. As I said, it's just my opinion.... As for after restoration ... depends on how "in depth" the restoration is ... etc.....no real clue on that one, since none of mine will ever be worth that much . Thanks! I feel better tonight ... so I'm trying my best to catch up on all of my forums. We'll see how it works ... lol. 6. OH my goodness....very sorry that happened to him.... Has he gotten behind the wheel again yet? Hmmm...reminds me of a cell phone commercial. Kid attempts to back up the family car, but instead crashed into the garage, knocking down the garage door and things stored in said the garage. The Dad looks out toward the garage and asks, "10 calls in one DAY??!?!!?" 8. Hmm...interesting situation, BV. Back when I only had the '79 MC Landau, I discovered that the rear frame was rusted out, causing the rear bumper to sag. Instead of really INVESTIGATING the cost of getting that frame fixed, I simply thought it would be too much ... and bought my former '88 MC LS "Silver Bullet" to use as a daily driver. Bad decision, as the '88 MC LS proved that it had NOT been taken care of well and nickled and dimed me. Meantime, 3 years later, I did some investigating ... and found that the rear frame could be re-welded for LESS THAN $200. I was shocked ... and disheartened about all the money I could've saved had I looked into it 3 years prior. Course, by now, the '79 could've been rusted out, since fixing the rear frame back then would've meant it kept its daily driver status.... Life sure is funny. 16. *nods* They did. It IS a factory dash AND a factory color. I've seen a couple of them that color..... A buddy of mine had a '73 MC 454 with the swivel bucket seats. I remember the first time I got in it, I was "stunned" to see the black section around the gauges ... only because I remembered my parents' '76 MC (tan with brown dash) had an all-brown dash ... no black section. That's when I learned about the change in the dashboard coloring. As for the dash being Chevelle-like, I thought the Chevelles (for the most part) of this generation had the rectangular gauges ... that the round gauges were for the Lagunas and an option on the others...no? Monte Carlos have always had circular gauges from the factory ... and, from pics I've seen from '73-'83 versions, have always had the same wood grain (or whatever they used ... it was black around the gauges in the '78s and '79s...no woodgrain then, from what I recall, anyway) treatment as the Malibus/Chevelles.... The first gen MCs, I don't think the dash was different at all from the Malibus/Chevelles...was it? Or, was the rectangular gauges only on '78-'83 Malibus? Though ... seems to me I've seen rectangular gauges in the '73-'77 Malibus/Chevelles, too, from the factory.... Anyway, I'll never forget the first time I sat in one of those '78-'83 Malibus as a kid ... and was astonished to see the rectangular gauges (versus the circular ones I was used to one Mom and Dad's, now mine, '81 MC). LOL! (Or maybe I'm just hallucinating ... hope I'm not getting sick ... lol!) But ... for reference... My '72 MC dash: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1972/72MC1007_11_JPG.html My '76 MC dash: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1976/76MC1007_14_JPG.html My '79 MC dash (notice the black around the gauge area)... http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1979/79MC1007_13_JPG.html ...from what I've seen ... the '78-'79 dashes in the Malibus and Monte Carlos are identical, except for rectangular gauges in the Malibus, round in the MCs.... My '81 MC dash: http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc1981/81MC1007_12_JPG.html I know these dashes are identical between the Malibu and Monte Carlo, except for the gauges (rectangle - Malibu; round - MC) because I almost bought an '82 Malibu with that EXACT dash (rectangular gauges) for my winter beater..... YJ ... tell your Dad to just buy it! Sorry you had to delay a day going to see it.....
