GM @ Chicago 2008: GMC Denali XT Concept
longtooth replied to Chris_Doane's topic in Chicago Auto Show (CAS)
perhaps, but with a quantum leap in appearance and hopefully potency. Let's see how the Volt comes to market and how it's received. -
GM will cut more factory jobs in 2008
longtooth replied to Oracle of Delphi's topic in General Motors
Jubak has mentioned this twice since Halloween on the MSN blog which bears his name. I think that whether it's either 18 months, or two years is almost irrelevant as the perception of ordinary consumers is that it is very bad in general, and can only get worse. A lot of folks around today have never seen hard times. Well, buckle up, I think it will be a very bumpy ride for the foreseeable future. -
At Wilmington Assembly, and throughout GM, we're always being exhorted to embrace 'Stretch Targets/Goals'. As with the recent announcement of their Ethanol venture, if they apply their considerable Corporate will I think all of this, and more is possible. Small steps, and when needed a leap.

Hear, hear re: the X-11. Mine was a metallic redwood hatchback.

CR, USA Today, Walt Disney World. All the same bland homogeneous type of pandering designed to have the broadest appeal. The Malibu is something of substance, and as such there'll be no shortage of detractors wishing to see something outside the mainstream be brought low. Not to worry about the Malibu. However it'd behoove GM to continue to refine and polish this latest 'jewel in the crown' and continue to diligently mine for more jewels.

New Chevrolet Malibu Careens Out of Gate
longtooth replied to Intrepidation's topic in General Motors
If GM can remove so many of the distractions which hamstring it, yes. And with 'bullseyes' such as Malibu displacing the misses, that will serve to propel GM forward. But what needs to be addressed is the internecine bickering in the middle of the ranks, hourly and salary. When they have both halves of the 'choir' singing harmoniously, then GM can make real strides. There is alot of 'turf' based BS which goes on, doesn't add any value to the process. Both entities really need to look inward and exorcise their 'demons'. I think that as some of the 'old guard' are put out to pasture, this will enhance the prospects for success.Away from the philosophical side, as demonstrated with the '08 Malibu, if you construct something which has appeal, people will buy it. And as 'vonVeezelsnider' has stated, "I feel it" -
The MT staff are just suckers for those fender vents. They're cropping up everywhere. Those vents lend the impression of something desparately trying to get out. Buy Pep Boys stock now.

The point is well made with the illustrations. Would you take the old model if they giving it away? Now that you've seen the 'promised land'? -

Aftermarket screens aren't that expensive. Who is 'gouging' who? -
Less concern for one time charges as opposed to last ever charge if they keep up the finagling instead of getting down to business. Sub out the sleight of hand horsesh*t to David Copperfield, and let's make cars!

Yeah, but. But, in this shallow status seeking society, the 'screen' tells the world that you have arrived. Conversely, and unfortunately, it places everyone within arms reach of a crowbar that much closer to having 'arrived' too. -

Detroit News: Hillary Calls for 55 MPG BY 2030
longtooth replied to hyperv6's topic in General Motors
I hope we'll find oil in space. Additionally, I hope we'll find a race of anaerobic people who're easy to subjugate. This would justify the billions spent to get there, and would make sh*t a whole lot easier down here. -

You are obviously ignorant of her concept for the Balsawood Car, powered by the legendary Wen-Mac engine. They laughed at Fulton, they taunted Edison, they ridiculed Marconi...Gentlemen, and Ladies, I give you...the 'Hillary'!!! -

In three years, tuners will be trying to make them noisier. Ever see a slow moving car chasing a big noise? I still am fooled and look to see a fifteen year old civic moving like a turtle trying to live up to it's sound. -

Do all trim levels include the chrome accent ring 'round the license plate opening? I don't feel the back to be too bland, but sans some detail accents, i.e. the 'ring', it could be said to look like Britney or Lindsay photographed without their makeup. -

Article: "GM will offer DUB-branded tires on trucks, SUVs"
longtooth replied to PurdueGuy's topic in General Motors
I quite agree. No one ever went broke giving the people what they want. And there's no accounting for taste. i.e.: a honda civic with a loose, noisy, nickel-plated muffler. They are legion. As for Da DUB; so long as it ain't standard. -
While working for Fisher Body (much later to become Delphi) in Trenton, NJ during the 70's, 80's and 90's, the best electricians, machine repairmen and millwrights were all Polish. They, plus all of their intricate knowledge of being able to diagnose, teardown and rebuild anything management could throw at them, are scattered to the four winds now. Just as 'Poletown' itself's just a memory now.

In discussions, have heard many times that the DeVille is a 'gentlemans' ride. I think it'd benefit from a more compact exterior, content upgrade, and a striking physical shape as much at home slipping powerfully through the atmosphere, or subtly brute enough to pulverize a brick wall and emerge unscathed. This is the feeling evoked when I see the new CTS. Why can't that magic be worked on the 'grand daddy caddy'?Since I have no shame, I ask, am I alone in feeling as this?

GM global sales up Q4, Toyota estimated decline
longtooth replied to mustang84's topic in General Motors
It is the ocean, and a bit of wishful thinking. So put down that conch shell. While still in the 'honeymoon' phase of the recently concluded negotiations with it's shrinking domestic workforce, GM now had better concentrate mightily on fielding world class product. To paraphrase the Clinton campaign of '92, "it's the CARS stupid"! 'biz, i'm not saying that you are stupid. just that GM should be of a singular focus going forward.
