  1. Unbelievable! You missed the whole situation and furthermore you haven't even looked up who Yorozu is. This has nothing to do with GM asking for price reductions. This is an issue of a very good quality supplier who sells to Toyota, Honda, Chrysler as well as many nonautomotive manufacturers. They do not need GM! GM came to them to get these stampings sourced and Yorozu gave them a very good rate but requires a credit line to be sure they get paid. GM likes to "fine" their suppliers for any and all transgressions no matter how small. If you are late or if anything is not as GM wants it they will fine you by reducing the amount they pay. Also GM likes to stretch out the payments and then refuses to pay any penalties or interest on late payments. GM is fortunate a supplier with the quality and reputation of Yorozu will even do business with them, on any terms.
  2. What GM fails to understand is most people would see a DOHC aluminum block smooth reving inline 4 mated to a good 6 speed manual as being better (more upscale) than a pushrod, iron block raspy V6 mated to a 4 speed automatic. This is why they will not sell as many Auras as they should. In fact the lack of competitive drive trains in most of their cars is a major reason why their market share is dropping like a stone.
  3. Take a look at what the US is doing to the 2nd largest oil exporter (oil is a key componenet in the making of gasoline). If we attack Iran oil prices will go well past $100/bbl. The rollup now is anticipating a US/Israeli attack on Iran and the repurcussions to the oil exporting capability.
  4. The 3.5 litre and 5 speed auto in my girlfriend's 2005 Saturn Vue is the best engine transmission I have ever driven in a GM vehicle. Bar None!
  5. It looks like they are not going to use the euro engines but will use the heavier NA cast iron pushrod 3.5 litre V6. This will mean a definite change in the suspension and balance of the car. I am afraid it will not drive with the same dynamics as the euro version.
  6. So are you saying GM copied this to make the H2?
  7. The problem is that GM NA has to tweak the designs before they will bring them here. They will americanize the suspensions and engine/drivetrains. The result will not be an Opel at all. The worst is the powers that be at GM will not have a clue as to why the Opels don't sell well here. Listen GM bing the Opels here JUST AS THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!
  8. Did you just write these off the top of your head? No insight here at all just expounding on the obvious. I hoped you would have been able to at least shed some light on a few of the less obvious names. Actually you even missed some of the obvious ones.
  9. GM still doesn't get it! Unfortunately they want to change the engines, transmissions and suspensions when they build them in the US. They should use the same engines transmissions and suspensions, that is a big part of what makes them "european"
  10. GM's Newest engine plant (in production not on paper) is in China and the engines are exported to the US for use in the Equinox/Torrent. All this is done while closing plants and laying off workers here to put them in a job bank to be paid for not working. Toyota on the other hand is investing in the US by increasing the US content of their cars, i.e new engine and assemnbly plants. Toyota's investment is good for the USA just not good for the UAW.
  11. That is the beat part! Toyota is investing in America by building new and better engine building capability here in the USA employing good old americans. Contrast that with the GM model of investing in China for their newest engine plant.
  12. My brother owned an Aspen R/T and his friends thought is was funny whenever they saw him to ask "how's your a$$ been?" So I guess we can look forward to the revivial of that old lame joke!
  13. The savings did not come from "cheapening the engine" nor form producing it in a cheap location (it is made in USA). What they did was invest in high end tooling and processes to reduce cost. They have spent the $ to invest in high pressure, mutli-bay, lost wax, block and head aluminum casting capability. Plus they now have the capability to produce high multiples of crank forgings with each loading. GM went cheap here and uses a cast crank in most of their engines. So to sum it up Toyota gets great economies of scale by making one excellent V6 rather than eight half-assed ones.

"Edmunds says no Camaro till 2010 MY, According to suppliers" Let's face it! Deep down we all knew that there would be no Camaro until at least 2009. We were in denial and this just brought us back to reality
  15. This is very strange! Where did you see a that GM "reported" that the '07 Impala will have a 6 speed auto? They have not even done the engineering to modify the W body to accept the FWD version of the 6 speed, much less the engineering for the engine/drive train management software. If it was coming out on the '07 they would have to be in final testing. Please state the report this was in!
  16. There is no plan at GM to EVER put a 6 speed auto in a W body. It would be nice if they put some work into the 3.6l V6 to get it to a competetive 300 HP (see Lexus 3.5l)
  17. Multiport fuel injection delivers the optimal fuel/air ratio to each cylinder. Carburation has several problems with optimal fuel delivery that effect longevity. First at cold start carburators tend to deliver too much fuel to the inboard cylinders (closest to carb) and can wash the oil off of the cylinder walls if the mixture is rich enough thereby effecting longevity through the reduced lubrication in the inboard cylinders. Second when fully warmed up and running hard the outboard cylinders (furthest from carb) will run too lean and too hot (oxydizing the cylinder lubrication) creating a tendency to score the outboard cylinders over time effecting longevitiy
  18. GM is eating their limbs to stay alive! They will not survive if they don't advertise well AND often enough.
  19. The DTS is not a "W" body. Yes The LaCrosse is a "W" body but it doesn't have a six speed. GM has made no product promises about six speed autos in LaCrosse. They won't spend the money to modify the "W" bodies to accomodate it.
  20. There will never be a six speed auto in a "W" Body.
  21. I wouldn't worry about the power either, as by the time we see a Camaro at the dealers (2011?) so many things will have changed in the market that power will be the least of the issues with the Camaro to worry about.
  22. Japan doesn't "think horsepower is key". Japan understands what the market wants and gives it to them. That is why they sell so many Civics. People like the HP and the smooth reving engines.
  23. It is obviously a typograhical error not a lack of spelling knowledge. By the way I looked back at your past posts and I don't think you want to start a pissing match over spelling (or correct usage in your case). It would really be a case of the "pot calling the kettle black"
  24. Little Johnny's mother specifically instructed him to quite disturbing his Grandfather while he is watching the football game.
