this is what i have found as well... my best friend's dad just bought a 302 off of the barret jackson auction, and was facinated that it was a high reving motor... although producing less horsepower, its ability to use higher rpms through lower gears sometimes aids a vehicle to a better perfomance... now that he has both the 302 z28 and the SS396... he's thrilled...

what wrecks... they wont make it that far with the quality i've seen recently... there camshafts will faulter shortly after the frame seperates, and of course their crash test ratings arent so good on their cars, so these people we love to watch race will end up in hospitals or worse...

a 1968 302 Camaro z28, outperforms a 1968 396 Camaro SS

ditto... im wouldnt disregaurd this, due to how much gm talked about their 900's were so much stronger... tortionally they were like 206% stronger... then the gmt800's... but honnestly... the ultimate in strength is our humvees at work damn drive it sideways and it wont flip/roll... but if it did, you'd die... canvas roof...

the mirror controls are exactly as they are on the power mirror aveo... on the aveo i'm sure its an afterthought.. but here they use the same exact buttons and everything, same spot... wonder why... guess you wont forget where they are... probably notice it everytime you look in your mirror... and as your adjusting your mirror, you dont have to look down at the arm rest to see where your fingers are pushing (as i would imagine my grandma/grandpa/dad/mom would do since they usually arent as object oriented as the younger generations...)

wait... ive got a gmt800... do explain...

okay, well i read it as it was written... "I bought a new long box Chevy 3/4 ton regular cab truck with a 4.3V6 and A/C" excuse me for thinking it was recently... i'm not a product knowledge guy from a decade ago... just the 900's and the 800's i'm not saying the silverado doesnt offer it... its just not offered on the 2500's... the 4.3 is still sold on work trucks... unfortunatly... it offers the consumer no benifit..

well if he wanted to get gearheads he should look more to camaroz28 or ls1 or those type of sites... we are enthusiasts not mechanics, granted i do grab a wrench every once in a while... i'm not as good as our army mechanics... damn they are fast... 10 x faster then anyone that works at a dealership i've seen... there are rules to this site, and this is definatly not allowed... i've looked into this, people used to give me crap for my signature, but said it was okay because it promoted GM sales... got a call from wall street journal once haha that was interesting...

i dont know where you are from, but i've been driving overloaded pickups in cali(for 4 years every day 6000-8000 lbs on a 1 ton 99 dodge ram w/ steel bed & diesel... bed would rub against tires... sounds horrible), and across the country with my parents horse trailor and camper since i was a boy... a vehicle load of about 24k lbs in a 89 F350... which is rated for much less... even our new 03 V10 isnt rated for that much weight, but they got a new alluminum trailor and ditched the camper... ummm i know you didnt buy a v6 on a 2500 silverado... the smallest engine option was and is a 6.0 V8 powered at around 320 hp even 1500's the 4.3 isnt even offered on all models only the single cab and extended cab get that engine choice... but definatly not on a 3/4 ton truck...

arguably the sixteen and the cien are cadillacs flagships... just like the z06 for chevy... but the dreams of cadillac are to big and to bold for the buying public... that hate it or live it styling goes farther then just the cts... but gm deamed cadillac, the luxuary for all... and be your own crittic as to whether that is an ideal world for gm and cadillac...

well... not really... timing chains will stretch with use... thats about it... perhaps more power and more friction will encourge the behaviour... but something like a rough idle or what not, really shouldnt affect it... think of a bicycle chain... if you jiggle your feet around will it break? probably not, but when you start doing fast starts, jumps, wheelies... its more harmful to it...

lol season... but its so true... we get the world to kill... if we dont get less wages and health care, we'll continue to harbor osama... and.. we'll light the moon on fire... perhaps we'll break of another portion of the business to send them to chapter 11 school... but if you reduce our costs on the employees.. we'll continue to make cars, and never interurrpt anyone elses lifes...

according to some of the posters... toyota was already looking into this problem... but... even still my example... i was driving on the a road... and i wasnt paying too much attention, and after crossing an intersection there was a massive rain gutter and it allowed my entire 1994 toyota t100 to become air borne... the overflow containor completely fell off... now i was on the paved roads doing nothing wrong... its not even like i put it up on a curb... and the radiator overflow fell out of the bottom of the truck... later on... after the overflow was replaced, the motor had a bad head gasket and was burning coolant out the tail pipes... knowing the engine had already been recalled for head gaskets... tried to get the engine replaced by toyota, the dealership said no... later on sold it to a friend who was a toyota mechanic... who some how got the motor replaced the first day he owned the truck without any trouble... even when they drag their feet... their dealerships still say no...

as a rule of thumb... now you heard this from a friend, not a gm certified employee... these ratings are designed to show the maximum payload that can be safely transported on this vehicle through all components major and minor... meaning... your engine, brakes, suspension, axels driveshaft, transmission are all designed to support that weight without breaking... but as my dad had always said, usually the vehicles maximum weight is more like double the payload... 2052 does sound right... its been a while since i've looked in a brochure to check... but that number sounds right... the extended cabs have lower numbers... but in a palet enviornment i've seen extended cabs 1500, take a pallet and a half in the bed and a trailor of weight... sure it didnt look pretty, looked like a low rider, our pallets weight was near 2700 lbs plus more weight... and the extended cab short bed not allowing the weight to be pushed all the way in the middle of the truck like a single cab would allow... once a week this truck would get around 3200 lbs of stuff put in it... and it drove away without any troubles every week... so to me that was what the maximum weight looked like, 4 kids a BIG mom... and a full truck... that was the most i always saw that 1500 do... although we rarely maxed vehicles out like that... so get that truck... and dont be afraid to put some weight in it... she can handle it...

GM dealers gets $250 cash for each vehicle sold
Newbiewar replied to Flybrian's topic in General Motors
wait... the rav4 is faster, better handling, better made, and more fuel efficent then the chinese theta platform... woo... man, dont beat a dead horse man... your wasting your breath and time... -
i was just talking to my buddy the other day, hes got an old blazer... said he's rolled it twice, and all it has is a dent in one of the body panels... this is inexcusable what would you do or think, if your just driving, and from half way infront of the front wheel weld, just fell off, and you drive right over it... and what would you think if you saw such a thing... i'm sure this isnt a one time incident either, there are probably plenty of people who never check under their hoods... and such a travisty is in their future...

well... it might be cheaper for them to higher outsiders to do the work and sell the assets... this would probably generate a several million in trucks trailors, more cash flow not worrying about their health coverage, insurance for vehicles... let someone else worry about it... agreed long term... perhaps this less worth while... but if its no car company or, no parts transporation... i say, cut the fat... keep it lean...

GM testing engine that could up fuel savings by 15 percent
Newbiewar replied to PurdueGuy's topic in Powertrain
i think your patially right... but from my understanding the direct injection technology is old... the only reason they are beginning to use it, is because as the fuel enters the cylinder it helps too cool the cylinder, allowing for additional cooling... this of course allows the engine to be put at a higher compression ratio... but this is how gm describes it... Inject the fuel directly into the cylinder like a diesel, Allow the engine to breathe more air for greater torque and horsepower, Have increased compression ratio (for improved performance and fuel economy) -
the 1500 is capable of 1800 lbs, its rated around that... it doesnt look pretty, but if u threw some overload springs on you'd drive a lot more comfortably... as far as the rear diff.. might be tought to find it... although its a few hundred bucks... lets put it this way, 2wd w/ locker sometimes is better at off roading then some 4wd limited slips...

okay so you want a cheap vehicle to carry stuff around... i'd go with the 4.8 single cab (or extended) long bed the work truck silverados come with vinal floors roll up windows, ac, and am/fm... the LS comes with carpet on the floor, nicer seat fabric, i think power windows and locks, am/fm/cd(on some models) i think there is an 1ls and an 2ls package... one is a step up from the work truck package, the other is pretty much the base model most people look at... so fairly equipted... but as far as engine options... the 4.3 isnt an option in my opinion, it doesnt get any substantail fuel gains over a 4.8 and its weak... the 4.8 is your 17-22 mpg vehicle... you might be able to average 20mpg combined, which is industry leading... and while that is all good you still get 290 hp (ym2007) if i remember correctly... depending on the equipment you want... the extended cabs have a lot better resale and usually better rebates then the single cabs, so that might change your opinion i do not know... but price is probably the concern seeing as you are a college student... these single cabs after rebates can probably be found for mid to low teens... the cheapest i've ever sold a silverado was around 13.5 i believe and i think that was a single cab v8 auto work truck... but i forgot what rebates were had at the time... and of course that was including rebates... you asked how well 3 people sit up front.. its works, but i wouldnt want to go anywhere long distance... if i remember correctly... you dont have to ask the guy next to you to lift his leg so you can plug in your seatbelt as you would my parents toyota...

GM's Baltimore Transmission Facility Achieves Landfill Free Status
Newbiewar replied to thegriffon's topic in General Motors
not necessarily... sometimes it is more expensive, to make sure that things get saved and recycled... and to sort stuff out... although... who knows... landfills are expensive but sometimes they can yeild profits, and are actually good for the enviornment when used the proper mix of trash and vegitation... then you produce methane/natural gas to power many busses... but of course mose people dont see that side to a land fill... maybe its only california landfills that are elegant and lush... but kudos to gm... hopefully such news doesnt expose any very wasteful production facilities that gm owns... but it might want to hint at that prius battery supplier up in canada where everything is dead... -
GM's Baltimore Transmission Facility Achieves Landfill Free Status
Newbiewar replied to thegriffon's topic in General Motors
heres your ad.... "in recent news, general motors, in attempt to calm their oil dependant oversized vehicles have designed a hybrid for their SUV's... the company renouned for single handedly suing states and federal governements for mandaiting fuel ecconomy, is now gloating about a single factory not leaving any waste products behind... but while their opperations may reduce the vehicles effects on the planet, the vehicles still slobber oil and fuel accross americas high ways and air..." -
your right i didnt read the article... since the GM vehicle gets aproximately the same fuel ecconomy, and can tow more... whats the dissadvantage, especially when combined the chevy does better then the toyota even though around town the chevy is worse... perhaps they chose the 5.7 L out of the toyota because it gets better fuel ecconomy then the normal motor, more commonly sold motor... just for bragging rights and people would make the assumption that the smaller toyota motor sips gas like a englishman tea...

in my opinion... i think pontiac ought to get the whole holden line-up... i dont think it would hurt to get pontiac inject with some entirely new/different additude... some people like that styling... and it doesnt neccessarily scream racer fan boy, it is elegant, and wouldnt hurt to get pontiac back as a full line of cars... thats why i picked pontiac, if it were a gmc, i could only see, it not selling as much as it could if it were a chevy... it depends what the goal is... if its to attain sales figures, chevy... all day every day... if its to make sense, pontiac along side the g8, to make profits, gmc...
